If you are looking for a nice place to stay in Carmel, this is it. Located on the main drag (Ocean Ave) within easy walking distance of everything. Rooms are clean and comfortable, there is off street parking, a heated pool, and they include a continental breakfast.
There are plenty of places to stay in Carmel but this one has everything.

My wife called it quaint; I call it clean [sorry, I know multiple parties have stated the same,] conveniently located and a good value. The “desk staff” were all friendly and offer dining options. I’d love to give them a five [4 1/2 is not an option] but street parking in the area is at a premium. We’ll be back.

This is a very comfortable and charming property with convenient walking access to Carmel shopping and beachfront. It has a B & B feel with pleasant staff and excellent breakfast. The check-in and service staff were friendly and efficient. The lobby consisted of a couple of comfortable sitting rooms with coffee and tea service around the clock. We were enamored by the cottage-like decor. Parking was convenient and free. All the guests we encountered seemed very delighted with the accommodations and some were coming for repeat visits. We plan to stay here next time we visit Carmel.

Room Tip: We had a single queen which turned out to be spacious enough for our over-packed luggage.

We paid $940 for 2 nights at this motel and were shocked how outdated it was. How disappointed we were to spend that kind of money for below average accommodations. I will say the location was great, on Ocean Ave (the main drag in Carmel) and close to the beach plus all the shops and restaurants. The included breakfast was a complete joke. I would prefer nothing to the items they offered. (boxed cereal, yogurt, gas station quality pastries, little fresh fruit). The tvs were 20 years old and basically computer monitors. No smart TVs here. Parking is tough. I honestly feel like we were robbed paying so much to stay at such a below average "Inn". We asked why we didn't have a fireplace in our room and the front desk person said we had been upgraded to a suite which we didn't ask for nor were told. We had a "living area" and kitchenette that were totally unused. We wouldn not stay here again nor can we recommend it to others.

A little to close for comfort.

Location: The inn is located on the Ocean avenue which is the Main Street in Carmel. The grounds are well kept and full of flowers.

Parking: They have limited parking, otherwise there is street parking. If you chose to park in their parking be careful which spot you pick as we had trash dumped on our car from housekeeping dumping trash over the rails.

Rooms: We booked directly on the Normandy Inn website and chose the Deluxe Fireplace Room. Unfortunately the description did not disclose this was directly adjacent to the street so the busy street with all the foot traffic and cars was less than a foot away. (See picture). There was also no mention of the room being a bottom floor unit so there was significant noise from the rooms above. Breakfast is no longer included as we were informed they had lost their license.

The staff was very friendly, but if you are looking for a quite environment this may not be your best option unless you call them directly to ensure what type of room you’re booking.

We got a corner room on the 2nd floor with partial bay view. Room was large, clean, comfy and cozy. Complimentary continental breakfast was an unexpected bonus (didn't choose it during booking). Staff and grounds was excellent. Free parking on location can be a little tough during weekends, but plenty on the street. Property is a little old so walls a little thin and best to bring ear plugs. We would come back for sure.

There are several big positives about the Normandy Inn. The location is perfect - near the beach as well as the downtown stores. The rooms are spacious and lovely, and the heated pool is divine on a cool October morning. The desk attendant willingly changed our room when a family with a rambunctious toddler and loud, impatient dad checked into a room next to us. However, the coffee station in our room was broken and the hotel refuses to provide any housekeeping service for guests who book less than three nights. We ran out of towels and had to ask for more. This practice is uncomfortable for guests and incompatible for a hotel with this price tag.

You can't beat the location but I could hear almost every word from the people in the room next to me (I could even hear them coughing) and from the room below me. It impacted my stay and seems like something you would experience at motel. Be aware.

Whilst the hotel is as described, if you want a decent nights sleep, or just want to watch TV, do NOT accept room 301. It's situated right next to the street and the only window that opens is on the corner within less than a foot of the sidewalk. You hear all the conversations of passers by as well as traffic noise on Ocean Ave. If you close the window there's no air in the room, plus you still hear people going by. Whilst there are plenty of windows to let light in, they also let everyone see inside??!! This room should be offered with a warning, or a discount.

Normandy is a nice and cosy guesthouse a few blocks from the beach in Carmel-by-the-sea. Rooms and all facilities are nice and well done, with a lot of flowers in the open areas, and sufficient free parking. The rooms are in a number of small individual houses, with a small pool area in the middle, and common areas at the lobby and breakfast room. The rooms have everything one needs, nicely furnished, clean and with good bed and bathroom.
Breakfast is complimentary, however, substandard given the loveliness of the place, as it is served with plastic/paper plates, knives, cups etc, no tableware, and many food items individually packed in plastics, so that one ends up with a huge heap of mixed waste at the end of breakfast. With such a nice little gem and in such a natural beauty this felt inappropriate to us. (unfortunately, this is quite common in US hotels, and one thing I really would like to see changed, as it hurts our environment).

Yes, there is a parking lot for hotel guests. Sometimes it fills up, and you have to park on the street. We were always able to get a space though.
