Tucked into a corner of Carmel-by-the-Sea and surrounded by blooming flower gardens The Normandy Inn is a beautiful experience. The historic Normandy Inn exudes Old World European charm and is located just three blocks from the white-sand Carmel Beach.

I stayed here by myself and had a lovely stay from beginning to end. The room was small, but the bed was perfect and so comfortable. The shower was great, with good water pressure and plenty of hot water. The lemon soap was a nice touch too. I loved how quiet this place was, even being right on the street. The staff was kind and welcoming. Three blocks to the ocean, you cannot beat it! I was there around the holidays and loved all the decorations. I look forward to returning!

Have been a customer of the Normandy for more than 40 years, since back in the early 80s. Have taken friends in many of our trips to Carmel, and love the fireplace rooms in the West end of the property. Unfortunately, we can't stay there anymore since we have a golden retriever who isn't welcome. Miss this beautiful, comfortable inn, but shame we can't include our full family now.

There are several big positives about the Normandy Inn. The location is perfect - near the beach as well as the downtown stores. The rooms are spacious and lovely, and the heated pool is divine on a cool October morning. The desk attendant willingly changed our room when a family with a rambunctious toddler and loud, impatient dad checked into a room next to us. However, the coffee station in our room was broken and the hotel refuses to provide any housekeeping service for guests who book less than three nights. We ran out of towels and had to ask for more. This practice is uncomfortable for guests and incompatible for a hotel with this price tag.

We paid $940 for 2 nights at this motel and were shocked how outdated it was. How disappointed we were to spend that kind of money for below average accommodations. I will say the location was great, on Ocean Ave (the main drag in Carmel) and close to the beach plus all the shops and restaurants. The included breakfast was a complete joke. I would prefer nothing to the items they offered. (boxed cereal, yogurt, gas station quality pastries, little fresh fruit). The tvs were 20 years old and basically computer monitors. No smart TVs here. Parking is tough. I honestly feel like we were robbed paying so much to stay at such a below average "Inn". We asked why we didn't have a fireplace in our room and the front desk person said we had been upgraded to a suite which we didn't ask for nor were told. We had a "living area" and kitchenette that were totally unused. We wouldn not stay here again nor can we recommend it to others.

We got to the inn about 4 pm and checked in. We went to the room to see where it was located before we got out bags out of the car. Opened the door and the smell of mold was overwhelming. Although the room looked clean the mold and mildew smell was so bad I decided to go to the front desk to see if they had another room. She said well this is an old hotel and all of the rooms were the same. She asked me if I wanted to leave I said yes. She said you can leave but you don't get your money back sorry! I asked to speak to the manager and she said " I've already asked the manager many times for other people the answer is NO" Then she said if you leave please let us know so we know what to do implying that they would possibly double book the room while still keeping my money . We were flabbergasted and simply dissatisfied with the moldy and musty room. Was never my intention to cancel just completely dissatisfied. The front desk person could not care less completely and totally disinterested. I would not recommend this hotel ever. Motel 6 would have been an upgrade. And they didn't even seem to care. One Star is too much for this Hotel.

I have to agree with many of the other comments. The proximity to everything is perfect. It's a few blocks to the beach, and a few blocks to the end of the main street, so it's right in the center of everything. As others have noted, the only problem with that is the thin walls. You can hear people walking by, cars going past, and even people talking in another room. Also, beware that the windows will not give you privacy if the blinds are not used, People walk by and can see in, especially in the bathroom. I gave it 4 stars though as it has other good qualities. The staff was very professional. The room (309) was very clean, with a large bathroom. Breakfast was ok,with cereal, some baked goods, fruit, and coffee.

Lovely bed and breakfast, the exteriors and interiors are so beautiful. Has a quaint European charm to it. They have free coffee, tea, hot cocoa by the reception saloon to welcome travellers after a long drive. We got upgraded to a cottage from the 2 rooms we originally paid for at the same price since it was not a busy weekend and we needed to all be together since we were with the kids. Maison Collette our cottage had 3 rooms, with a lovely kitchen and small dining room and living room. We had a great open deck that led into a lovely courtyard. The place was so clean, the beds and the sheets were heavenly. Great bathrooms. The free breakfast was so yummy. Cereal, bread selection, jams, hard boiled egg, fruits, juices, coffee, hot cocoa which is served in a cute breakfast room. Everyone was nice and helpful. This place is the best in Carmel. Our 3rd time here and it never disappoints. Also well kept considering its age, that's the rustic charm about it. The flowers in front are beautiful. So worth it.

This hotel is very convenient to the town center area and you can walk to lots of restaurants, shops and wine tasting rooms. The hotel has a variety of room and lodging options. We reserved the more spacious suite near the pool and it was a lot of room! Very charming place and the staff is very friendly.

The location was perfect, walking distance to all shops and restaurants. It is a very quaint Inn. We had a room with a fireplace. Check-in staff was lovely and helpful. Our room did not get cleaned in the two days we were there. The bathroom is tiny, like on a cruise ship. The vanity was odd with a window in the middle of the mirror. The room was large and there should have been a King bed instead of a queen. There are no plugs next to the bed. Walls were so thin we could hear the people talking in the next room. Mattress was very comfortable.

Location is great, room very nice, bathroom excellent, bed very comfortable. Not super soundproof so easy to hear voices in neighboring room. Certainly not bad enough to dissuade staying here. Very helpful and welcoming staff. On Main Street at the foot of shopping district and a couple blocks from the beach. Again, great location and very nice place.
