Edgemere is a collection of three (3) cottages, Rosemont, Piccadilly, and Devon. My wife, her dog, and I have stayed in all three, sometimes with children, sometimes not, This last time we brought our daughter, son-in-law, and two grandchildren and rented both Rosemont and Piccadilly. As always, owner Gretchen bent over backwards to make our stay as pleasant as possible. The only downside (from my point of view) is the popularity of the establishment. BOOK EARLY. -- Fravitta

We arrived earlier and cottage wasn’t available, but were able to pick up 2 guest passes to Monterey Aquarium. Warm and friendly attention to detail. Quaint and charming cottage. The gas stove nice touch. Would definitely come and stay again

We were on one of our road trips with our 2 very lovey basset hounds. Edgemere was very nice and dog friendly. We stayed in the Picadelly. Was nice with a little kitchen that was handy to have. We are in our 60s and this cottage had 4-5 stairs we had to take to get up to the split level where the bathroom and kitchen was. It was okay but we might have looked at other options had we known about the stairs. The grounds were stunning with lots of beautiful flowers and plants. I enjoyed it on my own but was a little difficult with the dogs on leashes trying to potty and get around all the potted plants - some cactus. Was very nice being able to walk over to a stunning powder white sand beach to walk and walk the dogs. We also used a place near in Carmel called Pet Food Express that had very nice self bathing stalls for the dogs until 7pm.

Disclaimer: We only stayed in "Rosemont" cottage and did not see any of the other cottages, so this only applies to "Rosemont". You stay in Carmel because of its unique "character" right? So here is an original Carmel "cottage", built 90 years ago in Carmel style: stucco walls, curved cedar shake roof, casement windows, vaulted beamed ceilings, rough Carmel stone walkways. And it's barely a block from the beach. The bedroom has a vaulted ceiling, king sized bed, thermostatically controlled gas stove for heat, and a large window looking out into the garden. The living room has a vaulted ceiling, bookshelves flanking a wood burning fireplace (and they build you a new wood fire every day) with a sofa, chair, chaise, and a small kitchenette with table and 4 stools, full stove, a small fridge that actually makes ice, microwave, and all the necessary equipment. Plus you have a red squirrel who empties the bird feeder in front of the door, and two cats who try to come in from time to time. If you are looking for modern chic, this is not it. This place is lived in, mismatched, comfortable, cozy, like visiting your grandparent's place at the beach.....We LOVED it!

We visit Carmel about once a month, and recently our favorite inn closed, so we had to find a new one. We’ve walked past Edgemere Cottages many times, and thought they were adorable! We were not disappointed when we stayed last weekend. The Innkeepers are so nice, and it’s great to have more space than in a standard hotel room. The cottages are reminiscent of the “old Carmel” which I love, and are neat and updated inside. Also dog friendly, so let them know if you are bringing a dog. Very close to the beach; the only downside for some may be that it is a ways from town. We love to walk, so it wasn’t a problem, but be sure to bring a flashlight if you walk to dinner. Only 3 cottages, so reserve early!
