The location of this place is great and has so much potential. However, it requires MAJOR upgrades. The property has gorgeous views, especially from the restaurant. Not all the rooms have great views, though. The room we stayed at had an ok view (half of the view was the attic of other rooms). One of the biggest disappointments was that the windows were foggy from the cleaner they were using, so the whole time you were looking at windows that had white foggy stains and looked dirty. The place was clean otherwise. The housekeeping was extremely annoying. They don’t have “do not disturb” signs, and the housekeeping starts knocking on your door at 8 AM. And when you don’t answer, they start calling you. People are on vacation and don’t want to be disturbed so early in the morning. They have very limited amenities. No AC either. The food at the restaurant was very good, although the service could be better. Overall, it was not a very good experience, especially for the money that we paid. We won’t be going back until major improvements are done.

Good news, the view is still fantastic and the towels and sheets are clean and white. The resort does look tired it is showing age and in need of it being brought into the 21st-century. Rooms are small, not comfortable, no lounge seating & not enough outlets to work and charge your devices. Cleanliness is not to a Hyatt standard by any means. And you need to have a good legs, as the the elevator, the one and only, does not work. You will be climbing many stairs, and walking up and down the hill to get anywhere, especially to your car. THIS PROPERTY IS NOT ADA COMPLIANT!

We stayed in a partial ocean view suite. Both seasoned travelers, tend to stay at four to five star if possible. I'll give good and bad. The good news: their property is gorgeous. They have sweeping views from the rooms and the restaurant; sunset is prime and vast. They supply wood for fires which was cozy. The food decent for the price, dinner sunset views beautiful and good wine selection. The bad news: We had an issue with the hot water which wasn't addressed until we were packing to check out. We stayed two days and only got room cleaning service on the last day. We were granted a late check out. Yet the day of checkout someone came to the door to insist we needed to leave (8minutes past the normal check out) and then they called to say the same. I had difficulty getting reception/anyone to answer the phone on several occasions. Also be aware, our room was on first floor, and we could hear everything from the upstairs guests when they were in their room. In summary, property is lovely, you can't go wrong on Carmel Highlands. But don't expect much in customer service as I think they're short staffed and service is not a priority.

I let some time pass to try to be objective with this review, but my thoughts haven't changed: Never again. The staff was OK, definitely not Hyatt caliber but that wasn't the issue. The property is just old, not well maintained and certainly not up to the Hyatt brand. Think more like 'Best Western'. The one solid positive is the location and view, the location of this propery is great and why I chose it in the first place. But I'll look elsewhere next time, this place is just very rough around the edges and not well maintained imho.

The Views are stunning. Woke up to the ocean view with beautiful flowers around is truly magical. However, with a hotel at this price, I wouldn't expect towels are yellow and old, saw someone else's hair on it. The amenities in the hotel room are also very old. The dinner at the Pacific Edge, is one of the worst dinner I've ever have at that price range. Only the corn dish was okay, all other dishes were so bland. We waited 45 mins for the appetizers to came, waited for another 50 minutes for the Entrés to come. There were no server or anyone came to check on us, until we asked them a few times for the update of the food. And the server even forgot to order the fries along with our steak. It was so bad. I strongly urge you, don't come to this restaurant it you have better choice in hand. I would only come here for the nice view, nothing else.

Great place! Husband, teen daughter, and I exchanged through timeshare program to stay in one-bedroom unit here. Loved everything about resort --- homey, comfortable, welcoming, nice staff, great amenities, etc. Was surprised that fireplace was still there, as we'd heard they'd been removed. (Loved that basket of wood was provided in room, with plenty more available close by.) Highly recommended! If there's anything that I'd have to say on not-extremely-positive side... There were sliding triple barn doors separating the bedroom from living room; while it was nice to have them open to make area more spacious, they did not afford as much privacy (and quietness) from the living room as we'd have preferred. But, just a minor thing. Fabulous resort!

MOLD all along the outside of a building that houses many rooms. I had to leave early. Management was unaware of issues, which is disturbing. Corporate not responding to the complaint. I have not been able to get my points back to date. Mold is a severe health hazard. I have let Monterey County Health Dept. know.

I’ve been staying at the Highlands Inn since I was a little girl. Their dedication to excellence and the absolute beauty of the property has not changed! This trip, our flight was cancelled by the airline and we needed last minute accommodations on a Sunday night-the Highlands came through with a beautiful room at a great rate -reflecting their guest first policy and willingness to help us out despite the time and cost expense on their end. We’re eternally grateful and cannot recommend them enough! Thank you to manager Aaron Dominguez (who hails from my hometown of El Paso) and Tracy at the front desk for their assistance and kindness! We can’t wait to be back!

What a dream it’s been to stay at the Highlands Inn. From the moment we arrived until we rushed out (at 4:30 AM) the employees were kind, professional and thoughtful. We needed some packing tape for a box going to the airport and the front desk attendant took care of us. The studio was beautiful and efficient with sliding doors for privacy when we had an overnight guest. From my balcony (210) we had an incredible view of the ocean and daily mist. We could eat the sea lions bark at night along with the waves. We had our windows ajar and wood burning in the fireplace. The grounds are beautiful and the maintenance staff were out early and throughout cleaning the hot tub (also seen from my room) and replenishing towels. I think it was the cleanest multi property spa I’ve ever used. The employees were ALL friendly. We really appreciated having firewood so readily available in the parking lot. The happy hour at the Sunset Lounge was the best value of our trip. The views are priceless. Reminded me a lot of those at Post Ranch Inn. Thank You, Hyatt.

among the worst places Ive ever stayed. the room looked like you were in a leftover trailer park from the 1970's - and this after they claimed " you are so lucky, this is one of our newly renovated rooms"! screens were bent in the window leaving room for flies to come in. Floors in the room were fithy with spots of dirt and smudge in more thane place. They advertised a full view of the horizon, which was more blocked than visible. Housekeeping was a joke and they didn't even show up for two days. We left at 930am one of the days, there was a card on the door" sorry we missed you" - then once i got them on the phone they lied to us, said well the people next door called too and we had to get to THEM front desk and management also pitiful - playcated me on the phone and asked me to "call back" once I was able to give up the room for cleaning. were I you - Avoid THIS PLACE ALTOGETHER! OVERPRICED, FALSELY ADVERTISED AND PITIFUL SERVICE OVERALL. THE ROOMS ARE STUCK IN THE EARLY70'S AT BEST AND SINCE HYATT TOOK OVER - BAD NEGLECT APPARENT ACROSS THE ENTIRE PROPERTY.
