A true beachfront hotel. Our family-owned, independent boutique has been a part of Carlsbad Village since the 1960s. Yet still to this day we remain the only beachfront hotel in Carlsbad. Our rooms average 600 square feet and feature balconies with panoramic ocean views while our privileged location offers direct access to the our own private beach. Our beach valets will even setup umbrellas, beach chairs, towels, and beach toys to make your experience extra special. Walk to 70+ restaurants and entertainment venues within the charming Carlsbad Village, or lose yourself in flip flops, sand and the sight of dolphins playing in the ocean. Legoland and fabulous shopping are five minutes away while the famous sights of San Diego are a quick 30 minute drive south.

The view from my patio was of the pool & beach. I loved just sitting on the patio and watching the waves. The lady at the pool was very friendly & so was the young woman at the front office who snapped a pic of my family and I. They have towels, beach gear like boogie boards, and will deliver a lite continental breakfast to your room. We will be back.

I have stayed at Beach Terrace Inn quite a few times. This time {even during the Pandemic!} was just as fantastic and magical as the others. The staff are helpful as well as mindful to all safety measures in place. I have been grateful and forturnate to stay in the beach front rooms and have enjoyed the absolute beauty and majesty of waking up to the beautiful ocean and falling asleep to the lulling crash of waves. I LOVE being able to park my car and walk all over town without ever needing to get in the car the whole time! Restaurants with outdoor dining are fantastic as well! I cannot wait to come back!

We travel to SD from LA several times a year for mini-vacations. We enjoy visiting Carlsbad Village as well as Legoland. The Beach Terrace Inn is in a great location, just off the beach. Competing places are actually across the small Ocean St, so if you’d like beach access without having to cross the street, BTI is the way to go. This place is a good choice if you’re planning to spend most of your time at the beach. It has complimentary beach valet service, which will set-up chairs for you and also rent out body boards, etc. It also has a good saltwater pool that is easy on the eyes and skin. Now, if you’re looking for a place to stay but plan to spend most of your time visiting SD sites like Legoland or the Zoo, this may not be the place with the best value, at over $500 per night for a partial ocean view. It really is a converted motel/apartment complex. The paint and roof shingles are aging, and could benefit from a new makeover. See the pictures. It has large spacious rooms that can sleep a family of four comfortably. There is also a kitchen area with a small fridge and sink, but no microwave, stovetop, or dining table. A small dining table would be extra nice and doable given the large room. The carpet in our room felt a bit sticky--could remedy that by having a tiled entry, more frequent cleaning, etc. In addition the balcony was sloped downward, so it was a little unsettling (see pic). Next to the balcony was the AC unit, which did not turn off, so there was a constant buzz that competed with the normal beach sounds. Again, you can just walk to the beach, as BTI’s best attribute--other than service--is the location. Breakfast was complimentary and delivered to your door, but consisted mainly of store bought goods, like sliced cake, canned pineapple juice, string cheese, and Dole sweetened peaches. For the price of stay, I think they can invest in higher quality products, like those from local bakeries, etc. However, the a la carte (you have to pay) menu was great. We had the nutella toast and cobb toast, and they were nicely packaged and delicious. Overall, we stayed here over the competition because we wanted the beach access, and also because this is a family-owned business. We would stay here again, but I think they would need to consider these suggestions to turn this into a true mid-range to luxury resort.
