This resort is positively spectacular. The grounds and pool areas (adult pool and family pool) are immaculate and the landscaping is lush and tropical. The view of the marsh and ocean beyond can’t be beat. The lobby, bar, and restaurant all have exceptional food, drink and service. The housekeeping and valet staff are friendly and helpful. Our checkin went smoothly and our room was very spacious and airy with a balcony and patio doors that had a screen so we could let the fresh air in. Awesome! Nice Illy coffee maker in the room. Location is far enough away yet close to so much. I just over this place. Would go back in a heartbeat.

We have been staying at the Park Hyatt Aviara at least once a year for the past 10 years -- whenever we visit relatives in the area. This has always been a beautiful resort, but the recent renovations have made it even better in many ways. There is now a grand staircase from the main lobby to the Palm Court. The exterior veranda used by the Lobby Lounge has been expanded, and their menu now has more dinner offerings. The California Bistro, unfortunately, is gone. I always enjoyed breakfast and brunch there. Breakfast is now offered in Ponto Lago, which replaced Vivaci. For the moment at least, a breakfast buffet is not available. I hope after covid they'll bring that back. The double rooms now have two kings, which is really great for families. There are two large water slides (that empty into a separate pool) and the main family pool now has a "beach" end (a gently sloping bottom). There's also a sand play area on the other side of the water slide. On arrival they give everyone reusable aluminum water bottles which can be refilled at stations next to the ice machines. (The water flow out of these stations is really fast so be careful.) This really cut down on the number of plastic bottles our family of 4 used during our stay. At the moment the resort is not offering daily housekeeping service. This is probably part of their covid plan. However, I think it must really cut down on water use too, and I wouldn't mind if they kept it in place, at least as an option. At the time of writing, the game room is not open. Instead, there's a pool table in a room across from the Lobby Lounge bar, next to the virtual golf/game system. One thing that hasn't changed is the service: It's still outstanding. The Park Hyatt Aviara is definitely pricey. But it's a very nice resort and I feel it offers value for the cost. It makes visiting relatives feel almost like a real vacation. Note that there are a considerable number of fees (resort fee, mandatory valet parking, etc.) and taxes that increase the total cost substantially. This is a standard practice across the travel/hotel industry (with the exception of airline tickets for some reason). But it's something I really don't like. In my opinion, all fees and taxes should be included in the quoted price.

The stay at the Park Hyatt Aviara was amazing. I will say this has been one of the best Hyatt locations and even amongst hotel chains I have stayed at in regards to service and room amenities. The whole staff knew how to make the stay so memorable.

At the front desk, Jenny and Jaime went above and beyond. The valet staff also had the car ready promptly with good service by providing bottles of water and helping us with luggage. The Spa and Fitness staff were made us feel safe as the equipment was wiped down before we entered and felt very comfortable with the reservation times available. We also were surprised with a bottle of champagne and a box of chocolates.

The only thing that would have made our trip complete is being able to go down the water slide that was closed due to weather.

We arrived Saturday around 2pm with the intention of relaxing by the pool in a cabana that we pre-booked a week before our stay. Upon arrival, all the lounge chairs in the cabana were already taken by other guests. I have a breast feeding wife and we wanted a little privacy, which is why we opted to reserve the cabana. Our server, was nice however she was not very attentive or proactive and forgot to reserve the lounge chairs. She told us that she couldn’t kick the people out (which we understand), but after speaking with the manager we were able to cut the bill down from $500 for the cabana to $250. A nice gesture, however it’s not about the money, but our experience… The pool staff was not as attentive as we are used to when staying at a five star resort and repeatedly had to chase them down to order something. The cabana’s were very dirty, which was evident with used dental floss, toothpicks, and stained cushions in our cabana both Saturday and Sunday. We stayed in the same cabana both days, so it may have been the same trash on the floor which was not cleaned up.. During COVID, I would assumed there would be a little more attention to detail to cleanliness.

We had the same issues at all the common areas of the hotel. Weather it was at the fire pits to roast marshmallows at night or at the outside lounge off the lobby, there was trash and unwiped tables. You would expect this to be cleaned up within a reasonable time, especially in a time such as this. Staff seemed undisciplined, inattentive, and lacked urgency in getting things cleaned up after guests or providing basic service’s. I wouldn’t ever think this would be a problem in a five star hotel. As patrons, we pay the premium prices to get this treatment.

We also paid for an upgraded premium costal suite and were instead given a room with a pool view.

Overall, we didn’t have a five star experience. We spent close to 6k for a three day stay and I feel like my money was wasted.

I do want to note, not all the staff was inattentive. The valet, restaurant, bell, and front desk were all great.

Thank you for taking the time to share about your recent stay at Park Hyatt Aviara. Your feedback is very much appreciated as the guest experience is a top priority and we are sorry to hear your experience did not exceed your expectations. As we approach the end of summer, we recognize that the condition of our lounge chair cushions needs refurbishing from the daily use they see. We know this does not excuse the disposable items left around the property and for that we sincerely apologize. As we work to rebuild our staff due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we recognize areas of opportunity and addressing these areas with the appropriate department leaders. We understand that does not excuse the lack of cleanliness you experienced throughout your stay. If you could kindly send your contact information to this email address, sanpa.reservations@hyatt.com, or you may text us your contact information at 760-642-2885, a member of our management team with contact you. We sincerely appreciate you taking the time to share your experience and feedback. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back to the resort in the future.

Where do I begin on singing the praises for this lovely property? Being fortunate enough to plan our stay during a nice sunny and clear extended weekend in Carlsbad only allowed my family and I to truly appreciate the splendor of this property. The sights are breathtaking from the steps just past the lobby overlooking the the Pacific Ocean, Batiquitos Lagoon, and Aviara Golf Course, and are even better from the adult pool area (especially the tucked away jacuzzi down the path from the cabanas). The hotel grounds are beautifully manicured throughout with plenty of kid and dog friendly areas to spend the day. Tennis courts are a short hotel shuttle down the road and will soon be hosting all sorts of family (and adult) games/activities like arts and crafts, badminton, volleyball, horse shoes and more (guess we'll have to come back). The pool was understandably busy given the amazing weather (hotel sells day passes), and yet we were able to find shaded lounge chairs every day of our stay. Pools are heated and very comfortable even when things start to get chilly and the nearby showers are not only plentiful but thankfully heated as well. Pool bathrooms are cleaned frequently and have plenty of private space to put on your swimwear or change a diaper (take notes Waldorf Monarch Beach and Ritz Laguna Niguel). The zero entry family pool and kids beach/sand area make up for the fact that the resort is not very close to the beach. The new waterslides were a blast. For those without kids the adult pool area is off by itself and has a much more laid back vibe, at least during our stay. Hotel gym is well equipped and stocked, but could use a Peloton bike or two. Top Golf Suites, billiards, arcade games and more mean you won't be bored even on a rainy day. Due to our Globalist status we were upgraded to a breathtaking room by hotel management which overlooked the pool, golf course, and the lagoon. Customer service is exceptional, and as other guests have noted we were recognized by name by staff which is pretty rare these days, even at a 5 star resort. Speaking of spectacular service, do yourself a favor a check out the newly opened Ponto Lago restaurant for dinner (or breakfast) and you will not regret it. Special shout out to Ted, Paola, Willy, Dominic, and Marina who made our many dinners and breakfasts at the restaurant one of the primary reasons we will definitely be coming back soon.

We used to stay here often before the pandemic and thought we would go again since my husband and I are vaccinated and it's close enough to drive fairly easily. Coming from L.A. where everyone still masks inside due to the increase in cases, we were immediately surprised at how few people work masks, including kids. We have 2 kids of our own, one of whom is a baby who is too young to wear a mask so that was annoying but I didn't expect the hotel to enforce masks since I know how difficult it is to retain employees in the hospitality industry as it is. That being said, literally in the middle of a surge with new news coming in that vaccinated people can still get the disease and spread it, our family were definitely in the minority with the mask wearing.

There is no housekeeping during the stay and to make up for it, you get a $50 resort credit which you cannot use toward valet or the market for some reason, only room service and hotel dining. We stayed in our suite and ordered delivery most nights as the room service menu is showing the struggles of hiring during the pandemic. The kids menu is now stuff any new hire can make such as pb and jelly sandwich, grilled cheese, hot dog, etc. Gone are the days of the Japanese breakfast option and replaced by generic, typical chain hotel menu fare. I believe the green juice was $16 if I remember correctly. We ordered a burger for our son from room service which was $29 wagyu burger that was way over cooked but we didn't complain because both my husband and I have worked in customer service and our kid didn't complain.

What was the deal breaker of our trip was the fact that there was a wedding in the courtyard outside with a dj and people screaming until 10:30PM on one of the nights. It was so loud that it woke up our baby a couple of times and when we called down, we were told that they were really sorry and that a manager would follow up since when we booked the room, we were told (by them) to book in a courtyard suite rather than the pool suite since it would be more quiet. The manager never followed up and even when I mentioned it at check out, they didn't call the manager or address it. I emailed them and never heard back. I understand that they are trying to operate and one way is to hold weddings outside now instead of in the ballroom (not that a bunch of maskless drunk people screaming 'Living on a Prayer' is contributing to the ending of this pandemic anytime soon) but really, a simple response goes far.

Dear 77umik, Thank you for taking the time to share about your recent visit to Park Hyatt Aviara. We appreciate your feedback in regards to wearing face coverings. The safety and wellbeing of our guests and staff is a top priority. Please know that the resort follows all current San Diego County guidelines in regards to face masks. In regards to housekeeping services, as we work to rebuild our team following COVID-19, we have extended optional housekeeping services. Our staff gladly provides housekeeping services, however should guests decline, our staff extends a hotel dining credit of $50 to be used in select resort dining areas. We know this does not fix the situation, but our goal was to offer something to our guests as small gesture. We understand the in-room dining offerings have changed since your previous visit and we have shared this feedback with our culinary team. As for the wedding that took place during your stay, we sincerely apologize the noise impacted your tranquility. If you could kindly send your contact information to this email address – SANPA.reservations@hyatt.com or you may text us your contact information at 760-642-2885, a member of our management will contact you. We sincerely appreciate you taking the time to share your experience and hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back to the resort in the near future.

We spent four nights at the Aviara Resort and Spa. There are plenty of good things about this hotel - lovely grounds, lots of outdoor dining options, spacious rooms. We booked a courtyard suite, which was very practical for ourselves and our young son as the living area included a sofa bed. We spent a lot of time at the pool and my son had fun on the two water slides, which are a great attraction for young kids (and some adults)! We dined at the restaurant on site for breakfast and dinner, and the food was good as was the service. We loved that there was a little cafe/store on the grounds, where you could get a cup of coffee or snack at any time as well as other essentials. The $45 valet parking per night is absurd, especially when you are charging a $40 daily resort fee. If this was Manhattan or San Francisco where space is limited and parking is an issue, it would make sense. But in the suburbs of San Diego charging for valet parking on top of a resort fee on a $1000/night room just feels silly. Parking should be included. My biggest complaint was the lack of mask wearing at the hotel. Despite the Delta surge and signs advising unvaccinated guests to wear masks nobody seemed to adhere to this rule. Kids were running around indoors in elevators and through hallways without masks the whole time. This made me worry for my unvaccinated young child's safety. I did complain about it and the manager responded promptly which I appreciated. I do sympathize with staff and realize they are in a tough position but if people were smoking indoors I'm sure they would ask them to put their cigarette out. They should also be able to ask people to mask up indoors, especially chidren between the age of 2-12 who we know are not eligible for vaccines.

The hotel was just remodeled month ago and started to open for public on Oct 19th. Initially we made the booking in late Sep but the hotel was not ready yet. The whole booking process did take several calls to be finalized. However, the front desk supervisor, Chelsea, and her crew, Jessica, provided the good communication and amazing service to make our stay pleased and welcomed. Since we checked in on the Halloween day, the hotel hosted the trick-or-treat game, moonlight movie at the garden, custom fashion show, ice cream booth, and craft artworks for the kids. The kids and friends had the memorable Halloween evening. Besides, we had the quality breakfast in the garden patio and splash pool fun. The pool temp stays warm around 82 degrees . In particular, the hand sanitizer machines are located every corner of the hotel. We used to stay here around Spring 2017. Nowadays the hotel really does the impressive remolding works. Thanks to Park Hyatt Aviara and Chelsea's fabulous team service. We definitely will come back!

We have stayed in several 5 stars including Park Hyatt. This one had good food, nice views and amenities, however the price, the room did not impress. One face and hand and bath towel each per guest and 1 extra bath towel to share. Felt cheap, not luxurious to have to ask for another set of towels. I wiped a spill with my hand towel and had to use bath towel as a hand towel since face towel was wet from the shower. Room was very quiet, but loud pipes when neighbors flush in the middle of the night. This may sound nit picky but at $700 a night plus resort fee and parking, I think a couple extra towels without having to ask would be nice.

Went there for a business conference. Hotel bed was horrible. Banquet food was terrible and they put ham on the fish for some reason, rendering it inedible for many of the attendees. There was no pool and much of the resort was cordoned off. There was dirt and construction noise everywhere.

Then, when I was going to leave, the valet told me that they did not have my key and asked me to look for it. I asked them if they would try to start to car to make sure it was not in there. They told me they already did. So I turned my room upsided down. No key. I then went downstairs and asked to see my car. Sure enough, it started because the key had been in the door the whole time.

The bed was half defective somehow, like half of it had been flattened by a steam roller. They really should just shut down and finish up rather than pretend they can still be a luxury resort during this time.

The banquet food was also cold, but the one bright side was a waiter named Greg who offered to warm it up and had a great attitude. Front desk people were also pretty nice.

Responded Feb 19, 2020
Hello j0hnpurcell, We are displeased to hear your stay was the least bit enjoyable during the business conference you attended. As mentioned in your review, we are currently undergoing a resort-wide transformation throughout the resort. As of last Monday, the Lobby at the resort began it's redesign- by the sound of your review, it seems as if you were with the group in house at this time. You will be pleased to know all guestrooms and suites are near to be completed and this will eliminate any future noise during rest hours. Regarding your comment about banquet food and valet, we would like to chat further here. We have sent you a private message in the meantime to receive your best form of contact in order for a member of guest services to reach out to you. We look forward to hearing back from you soon. Thank you
