Had a post-wedding weekend staycation at the Park Hyatt Aviara and couldn’t have picked a better place for some peaceful R&R. Booked a last minute award stay of “2 King Beds” for 2 nights. We only needed a single king room, but it was the only standard award room available for our last minute booking. The resort made a great first impression when I received a text the morning of our check in asking if we really needed 2 king beds, or if we were ok with a single king bed and a sofa bed. If we were ok with the latter, they would process our Globalist upgrade to a suite. I let them know we really did just want a single king and within minutes our upgrade to a “Pool Suite” was showing in the app. The good impressions kept coming when we arrived at the resort. Lance from valet was super enthusiastic as he welcomed us and gave us all sorts of recommendations from the get go. Alyson at the front desk was also just as enthusiastic and made us feel very welcome as we checked in. At first I felt a bit intimidated as we walked into the lobby… the hotel is upscale, well-manicured, and everyone around was in business casual or better while I was in ripped jeans, a utility jacket, and Converse sneakers carrying my North Face backpack as my luggage. I mentally prepared myself for a Julia Roberts in “Pretty Woman” moment, but it was the complete opposite thanks to Lance and Alyson. Once we got to the room I realized we were upgraded even further to a “Fireside Terrace Suite.” The layout is similar to the “Pool” and “Courtyard” Suites, but has a fire pit on one of the terraces. The room was quite large with separate living room and bedroom spaces with each space having its own terrace. For things to do, they have a spa, tennis courts, golf course, free fitness classes, and paid “adventures”, such as bike tours or learn to surf. We unfortunately took advantage of none of these since we were so jet lagged we spent our only full day sleeping for most of it. We had gone to breakfast and decided to nap afterwards, but our “nap” turn into full-fledged sleep and we woke up at 6pm. We came here for R&R and definitely got it. Thank god for the 24-hour fitness center, heated pools, and live music on the Terrace on Friday, Saturday, and Tuesday nights where you can enjoy food and drinks from their restaurant/bar Pacific Point. Overall we had a wonderful stay and would definitely try to go back in the future. Before coming here I didn’t see a single negative review about the place and I certainly see why.

Hotel's Favorite
Overall: A+. Immaculate facility and scenery is unbeatable. I stayed 3 days. I’m not much of a talker so I liked how the staff were very genuinely friendly but weren’t awkwardly trying to talk with me too long. I was trying to get a vacation! Pool/Hot-Tubs: A+. There is a dual water slide pretty fun for our tweens. General pool good for anyone. Adult pool completely separate which is nice. Two hot tub jacuzzi areas in the adult side, one in the general side. Temperature and water pressure was great. Heated pools awesome especially in Dec/Jan. But the view… at sunset. Makes you just want to stay there every evening to watch it. Gardens/Scenery: A+. The resort is high up on the mountain side so the view is amazing. You see the Pacific Ocean, the pristine golf course and the wonderful California residences on the hills. At sunset over the ocean from the incredible view from the pool / hot tub areas. Amazing. Food: A-. Food was very good. It’s not LA food. For our kids it was great. Just expect to mainly pay for convenience. We skipped the restaurants for dinner. We ate at Ponto Lago for breakfast which was nice. Outdoor seating with views was great. Locally inspired food was good. Servers were so nice. We got room service which was nicely made up. Service: A. Everyone was attentive. If you need extra services outside the norm just be ready to follow up if you care about a special occasion. I think everywhere is short staffed so people are multitasking. But they were great and friendly and chill. However the text message service technology seemed like it was down. Kind of a nuisance to have to use the land line in the room to get help. I’d like to just text from the comfort of the pool! Valet: A. Well staffed and followed instructions exactly. I think if you have a Tesla you just need to let them know your custom charging requests (since Teslas charge you for overcharging). We had a gas car which was fine. I would definitely return here if I come back to the SD area. The views and cleanliness was just awesome. Great for couples, families with kids, or friends!

We totally enjoyed our stay here. Our room was top notch and the grounds around the hotel were beautiful with many comfortable places to sit and relax. We were even able to watch the sunset from our balcony. Loved this place and will be back.

Spent a long weekend at the hotel and the staff made the experience a wonderful one. We had positive interactions with all of the staff and it really felt like service was embedded in the culture of the hotel. Our meal at Ember and Rye was really good (not just a hotel meal). we enjoyed the adult pool spa area and thought our overall trip was a good value for the money.
