upon arrival we met Summer, our hostess. our weekend stay was amazing from that moment on. Summer's attention to detail made us feel like we were staying at a friend's house. The Inn has just opened up so they were tidying up the gardens and planting new flowers. Stayed in the Hideaway suite to isolate from other guests. When breakfast arrived, we would take our tray and sit out on the lawn and enjoy our views. Coffee is good. Pastries and fresh fruit good too. We hit Trader Joe's in Capitola and got additional munchies. Hit up Summer where to eat and drink in town. There is a little parking lot across from Zelda's for 6 cars. $10 for 3 hours - so worth it for you will struggle to find street parking. clock is wrong but doesnt matter.

Very cozy and charming Victorian style home like bed and breakfast.
Check in was seamless as we pick up the keys after hours with pre set instructions.
We enjoy sound sleeping as we had a Queen memory foam bed on our master bedroom.
Breakfast service to your room by 9:15 AM and fresh delicious mixed fruit was my favorite.
Premises are well taking care off with and amazing view to the ocean, I got to spot some dolphins swimming around early in the morning.
I will definitely recommend this place to anyone ready to enjoy peace in a beautiful quiet location in the Monterey bay.

My son and his fiance selected this wonderful property for their wedding, and we couldn't be happier that they did! The wedding and reception were held on the property and the wedding party and families stayed in the rooms provided by the Inn. Let me first talked about the rooms, each of the approximately 12 rooms are individually appointed and have their own unique character. In that the bride and groom wanted to spend the night before the wedding with their bridesmaids and groomsmen, we had to move people around after the wedding, so we got to experience a couple of different rooms.
We spent our first night in the Victorian Room and the second night in the Ocean Mist Suite. Both rooms had incredible views and cozy accommodations. The staff was so helpful in getting everybody's rooms cleaned and available so that we could move around to accommodate the newly married couple and their attendants.
The venue for a wedding was incredible. The property sits on a bluff overlooking a small cove along the northern end of the Monterey Bay. It is surrounded by eucalyptus and cypress trees, and sports numerous succulent plants. The venue has a large deck for the reception and is covered by a tent whose sides can be removed depending on the weather. We were lucky enough to have perfect weather, so the sides of the tent were removed and we enjoy the beautiful breeze and an unobstructed view of the Monterey Bay as we ate, danced, and drank to our hearts content during the reception.
The property manager, Summer, was incredibly helpful in every aspect of putting this event together - she even drafted her husband Jeremy to come and help out to make sure everything looked great and the event went off smoothly. They could not have been more friendly and helpful.
Each morning we were treated to an extensive continental breakfast on one of the outdoor decks on the property. The food was delicious, and of course the views were unparalleled. If you're looking for a place to hold your wedding, anniversary, or birthday party, this is the place to go!

We had a perfect stay at the Monarch. The rooms are spacious, clean and pleasant, the grounds are well maintained and attractive with some great views. It's nestled in a small residential area and within a short walking distance to the beachfront downtown Capitola. Note, while we loved the walks, to get from the cliff to the town is a steep, long stairway, not suitable for someone with mobility or health issues, but a great way to walk off all the good food and drinks you have in town!! I enjoy the occasional cigar and was happy to see I wasn't relegated to a parking lot, the smoking area is pleasant with a nice fountain in the center. Finally, they deliver breakfast to you room each morning, this was very well done with some really tasty pastries. Our stay could not have been better and we will likely return!

My wife and i arrived in one of Northern California's worst windstorms of the past few years to celebrate our third wedding anniversary. We were greeted by the innkeeper and her husband whom went out of their way to ensure our comfort considering there was no power in three surrounding cities. The cottage was comfortable, and one of the kind of places that appears small from the outside but is quite roomy inside. The views of Monterey Bay were beyond breathtaking. The only thing we did not see were butterflies - because of the wind. The innkeepr husband personally led us to Santa Cruz to avoid the highway and took us directly to the entrance of where my wife and I had dinner reservations because the cell phone could not get signal for gps again due to the wind storm. The following morning breakfast was delivered to our front door promptly at 9:AM. It was delicious. I have stayed several times at other places in the area, but this is one we have already recommended to friends, because of hospitality, comfort, and relaxation.

We got very lucky and picked this place online and it turned out to exceed our expectations.
The room turned out to be a three room suite, plus a deck with a view of the Monterey Bay.
The bed was excellent, the furnishings appropriate and comfortable, and everything we needed was provided.
The breakfast was European style, French pastries and fresh fruit with a pot of coffee and a glass or orange juice.
We stayed in the Rose Garden Suite, one of several rooms in the large 1895 house which has been converted to guest rooms. Other cottages are available for those with pets.
The grounds are lovely. The place is often used for weddings, and the deck and grounds just outside our room are on top of a cliff looking down the Bay. It is about a 15 minute walk down the hill to town with all the places to eat and shop, plus the beach.
The host was cordial and present, and the other staff were polite and friendly. Food was served in our room exactly when we requested.
Some of the rooms are not as large as ours. Next door was a bedroom and bath only, but ours was an unexpected bonus.
There are nine rooms in the "Inn" so other guests may be close, the building is old, but we did not have any problem with noisy neighbors so that was not a problem.
The best thing about a great visit was the view. We could sit at our breakfast table, or on the deck, and look at the Bay and watch for whales.
For us, this was a five star experience and we will definitely go back.

For my cousin's 75th birthday, I decided to whisk her away for the weekend and visit the ocean. Monarch Cove Inn did not have a mandatory minimum stay (we were only going to stay one night), its website made this Bed and Breakfast sound great. We had a suite (Sunny Gables). We were astounded at its size! It had two separate bedrooms, a sitting room, a dining room, a bathroom with a tub and a shower. Breakfast is brought to one's room (notify the receptionist of your preferred time for delivery).

After reading reviews, I was sure this would be a 4-5 star experience. The staff was very pleasant and helpful. The property could be amazing, but needs a lot of work. The furnishings are not 4-5 star quality, more like 3 star. Hopefully they can do a thorough spring cleaning and remove worn carpeting and replace with practical flooring and resurface worn tubs and get rid of fabric that holds dirt and dust. Simplify the window coverings and all. Musty smell in closet and refrigerator is noisy in the wee hours.

It's a nice old series of buildings. Breakfast was delicious. The staff was nice. It was clean enough.

It's just over priced, even for the location. It just isn't a $200 a night hotel. It could be if they renovated.

It's on a cliff above the water, so you can't access the water or see it out of the rooms. Much of the view is blocked by some sort of tent for weddings, although you can walk around the property and see the water.

The rooms are somewhat smelly and overly ornate. We had to air the room out because of the fake smell. The bed is very soft. The bathroom was very cramped. You had to sit on the toilet sideways. The toilet, of course, backed up the second time it was used. The shower was some sort of very small closet that was tiled in and had a shower curtain. I didn't even take a shower because it looked so uninviting.

We loved the property and the room we stayed in ( ocean view)! Quiet and peaceful! Beautiful view. Coffee maker in the room was not the best, very watery. Would of liked to check in early as requested but no one there to check us in and no one answered phone, turns out person in office was very sick so understandable. Overall would we stay there again, YES, 100% for sure we would book and stay there again, not even a second thought! Overall experience was perfect and relaxing. Some rooms are dog friendly so that works for us since sometimes it is hard to get someone to watch our dogs.
