The place is absolutely stunning and worth a overnight stay to embrace it all once the crowds have left. The accomdation sits behind the restaurant and is up some stairs. There are many rooms with a traditional wood effect decor. This makes the corridors and walkways loud at night. Fine for us, but worth mentioning. A small mishap when we were lead to our room before check in time) to find it was not clean they rectified this quickly. The hotel is past the dam and about a 20mins walk from the bus stop. It's uphill and we'd backpacks. If you are travelling by taxi it is easier. The hotel isn't very well signed but follow the trail and you can't miss it. The staff are helpful and the manager was really nice to us. The restaurant closes early but he allowed us to take our drinks to the cafe bar area. As part of our booking.com reservation, we'd a free bottle of wine and breakfast. We were happy with both. Breakfast is cereal, boiled eggs, Olives, Cucumber, cheeses and Sausages and an array of bread. Juices and free tea and coffee. The restaurant for dinner is more expensive than elsewhere. Would I go again? Definitely for the beautiful view!!

Scenery. Traditional dishes and typical decoration. Nice service and good broad choice with very original Tastes. Indeed, i had a vegan Dish with peas and rasberries. They have local food. It IS better to réserve.

Stunning scenery and location, a beautiful quaint hotel that exceeds your expectations in Matka Canyon, Macedonia. Canyon Matka Hotel is very cosy, located in the heart of the gorge, you feel instantly at peace, surrounded by the lake and nature. The rooms are very clean, and be sure to book one facing the lake to enjoy the magic views of the canyon. A nice surprise was you receive a free bottle of wine for your stay. The restaurant and bar are full of views and all tables have the same magical views, you truly feel you are in a private oasis, it was very tranquil. The food was exceptional, we really enjoyed the crisp fresh salads and the meat and fish dishes were mouthwatering. After four days we dined a few times and were equally impressed with every dish. The menu was extensive and desserts were also a treat, portion sizes were plentiful. We enjoyed a few cocktails on the terrace, soaking up the views and they were made to perfection. It was also a busy spot for day-trippers, following their experiences in the canyon. A big thank you to Dejan for his high level of service, he was very attentive and warm. Most staff have been with the hotel for long durations, and make you feel very welcome, they exude energy and friendliness. Alexander is the manager and was an absolute delight to spend time with too. if you are an early riser it's worth noting breakfast starts at 9 am. They have a range of choices, the bacon, and eggs baked with cheese were delicious, fresh juices available and coffee was excellent. A boat trip with Almata Prima Kayak Rental And Boat Tours, located next to the hotel, through the canyon is well worth doing, it was magical. You also visit a cave, only one hour for the trip, and very affordable on a luxury pontoon at 500 denar - €8 each (normally 750). Another fun activity is to kayak through the canyon, ideally during the morning if you want to avoid the tourists, it is a very popular place to visit. If you are a fan of hiking, there is no shortage of treks. A fellow guest we became friends with from the US, has stayed in this gorgeous hotel for five weeks, a true testament to the hotel and friendly staff. The hotel is about a 10-minute walk from the car park via a cobblestoned trail, but the hotel will ensure your luggage is transported, we loved the simplicity and the experience. To have the canyon a short 25 minutes from Skopje, the capital city of Macedonia is a true treasure, recommend staying for a few nights to truly enjoy the atmosphere and nature.

I stayed here one night in early September 2019. I had an attic room with a view on the lake. The room was okay but it might get quite small for two people. But the real reason to come here is off course the scenery and the nature in the canyon. The views are great and the whole atmosphere is chill and peaceful. The staff speaks mostly good English and they seemed quite professional. I did not dine in the restaurant at the hotel (there are at least one great and also cheap restaurant down the road leading to the hotel) but I off course had the breakfast that was included in the room price. Breakfast was continental style and it was okay. I would have however appreciated a bit more options on the breakfast table. I visited the restaurant in the evening but just for a drink. I noticed that they were making some kind of renovation while people were eating. This was quite disturbing. All in all I enjoyed my stay but it could have been better.

We stayed here for 1 night mid September 2019. Great location, nice views, good beds, big room, and the best part was probably the breakfast. Note that the place is very crowded during the weekend and that the staff is running around to make sure everyone is happy. It is nice waking up in this location and to have the place pretty much for yourself without the crowds. Now not everything was satifying. Comfort room was above the restaurant. Staff cleans the place in the middle of the night, with traditional music, some chats and laughter, and other noise. They don’t seem to care about people sleeping in the rooms. All the rooms with a view will suffer from this. After taking a bath, the bathroom flooded when emptying the bath. We had to stop it since otherwise the room would have flooded too. It needs maintenance for sure, there was some black mold too. Not ok. The restaurant was too expensive for us (10€ for a starter, 20€ for a main, on average). There was an excellent much cheaper restaurant down the road near the monastery (3rd restaurant down the road). Matka Canyon is quite nice. Would probably do Matka Canyon as a day trip from Skopje next time. On a weekday.

We visited the restaurant July 2017. The only downfall is the parking. You have to park down the hill a ways, but the walk is well worth it! It is a beautiful restaurant set in a cliff right on the water's edge. The staff were very attentive and most spoke fluent English. The menu had a full array of cuisines from local traditional favorites to chicken fingers and hamburgers and reasonably priced for the scenery. If you go in the summer, there are boat tours that will take you out on the lake or you can rent a kayak for two people.

Hotel is in a very pleasant are as you have views of the beautiful canyon Matka. However they do not have any ac or fan in the rooms, when we asked for one they said that normally its not hot because of the lake. However our first night there was very hot and didn’t manage to have a good rest. Restaurant food wasn't bad, although the starters are very good but the main course not that much. The Manager is very arrogant and doesn't bother to listen to the customer. He is full of himself.

Absolutely perfect and the must-do of North Macedonia. The value is very reasonably priced (and we always look for bargains), we received a complimentary Vranec red wine bottle upon arrival to enjoy the evening's stunning views on the veranda built onto the edge of the cliff. I think after staying in 100+ hotels in USA, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Brazil, Thailand 4* 5* etc, this had the most beautiful view of them all to simply have a drink and enjoy the sunset through the mountains. My girlfriend is anti-mosquito BIG time, and even for her it wasn't so bad! Bring deet spray in any case or just sit indoor and take in the view. Some evening entertainment, someone dropped their car keys into the lake bank below, a scuba diver was eventually recruited and after a 2 hour search they were found! :D Breakfast is plentiful and continental, with nice coffee served and able to enjoy the sunrise. There are a couple of restaurants 15 minute walk away down the hill should you seek variety. We did the Kayakking although we couldn't be bothered to be honest so only did 30 minutes, however this is still worth doing and is 1 minute from the hotel. The lady recommended to barter for a taxi (when you walk down the hill you will be approached by 'local drivers' - these are apparently fine to haggle with. Stupidly I ignored them as we normally do when approached, we ended up walking an extra 1km to decide to get the bus but it was hot with our luggage and came across a guy with no teeth and a very old car (pre 1991 yugoslavia) with a taxi sign above his car and had little choice but to get this. He offered 600MKD (our hotelier recommended to barter for this amount) - so accepted the proposal and was a lovely man in the end!! Short story - haggle with the first guys you see for 600MKD and do not run away like we did!
