We highly recommend Fujioto to anyone visiting Japan. It's been an amazing experience and the best hotel experience of the trip. We expected the ryokan to be really good based on the reviews here and I have to say it exceeded our expectations! Since we stepped in Franco and the rest of the staff made us feel very especial and... More

After trekking from Magome we arrived hot & tired at Tsumago & were warmly greeted by management & staff who showed us to our room & explained everything about the Ryokan. All staff we encountered spoke English plus Italian, Spanish & I think, German. Had a soothing hot bath in the wooden tub before an aperitif overlooking the garden.Dinner is... More

Our experience at Fujioto was unforgettable. Franco, his wife (the chef), and their staff were so kind and hospitable. The ryokan is beautiful and in a picturesque setting. The room and futons were clean and comfortable, and with two hot baths there wasn't much of a wait to use them in the morning. The meals were gorgeous and delicious. Franco... More

This inn, or Ryokan is conveniently located on the main street in the village of Tsumago. We had the best suite in the house. Our room overlooked the fish pond and garden in front, and a view of the little town. The food is wonderful and very unique. We tried many local dishes. The staff is very friendly and helpful.... The stay in Ryokan Fujioto and the walk from Magome to Tsumago was one of the highlights of our family trip to Japan. I made a last-minute reservation just two days before arrival and was able to book a room for my family of 3. The staff were very helpful in making the reservation and giving advice on transportation for... More

This was our first traditional Japanese stay/food experience and I want to thank Franco and everyone at Fujioto for the most exceptional stay! I won’t be able to say enough good things. From the moment we arrived Franco explained the shoes off and showed us around and to our room’s. We put on the Yukata’s for dinner and feasted. Franco... More

As in April 2015, we were again fully enjoyed the walk from Magome to Tsumago on June 3, 2016, and the crown was again the extraordinary stay in Fujioto Ryokan. This was for our family the second time we stayed in Tsumago with Keiko and Franco, Sayaka and Mayu, plus the entire staff, they are all simply outstanding. Keiko's dinners... More

I cannot say enough good things about this place... it was perfect in every way. The hosts were so warm and kind and made you feel welcome, and the Ryokan was beautiful and charming. It was built by the host's great grandfather. The food was delicious and their sweet knowledgeable English speaking staff explained all the local dishes, making the... More

The Fujioto Ryokan in Tsumago stands apart from other ryokans in Japan. Their many awards and recognitions are proof. After walking from Magome on the Nakasendo we were warmly greeted. A staff member helped us retrieve our bags from the tourist office. We were given the room overlooking the garden with very thick comfy futons. It was relatively quiet at... More

The service was the best. Franco who attended us is very amiable. He introduced and explained to us the foods that we were having during dinner and also at breakfast. He spoke to us in Spanish. The two young female front desk personnel were also very friendly and helpful. The room, which I already had been told when I contacted... More
