Travelers' Choice
The 45-room Zhiwa Ling hotel combines the sensibilities of a fine Bhutanese guesthouse with the best of 21st-century technology. Envisioned and created by a local Bhutanese company, the hotel’s elaborate hand-carved wooden cornices and masterful stonework coexist beautifully with cutting-edge telecommunication systems and Swedish under-floor heating. The Tourism Council of Bhutan (TCB) announced the Tourist Accommodation classifications and Zhiwa Ling Hotel is the first and only wholly Bhutanese owned hotel to receive a 5 star rating. Zhiwa Ling Hotel is the only Bhutanese owned hotel and one of only two in the country to be ISO22000 certified. Set on 10 acres, Zhiwa Ling has many amenities available to guests. The spa offers all the facilities guests could want; a fitness centre, sauna, steam room as well as a traditional Bhutanese outdoor hot-stone bath. There is a business centre, Tea House, two fully equipped conference rooms, a Meditation House and the hotel has its own greenhouse. Zhiwa Ling Hotel practices sustainable tourism.

This is no doubt a beautiful property around 20-30 min from city's main market. It's quite serene and certainly a good pick for folks, who like nature at its best . My family and I stayed here for 2 days in 3 nearby rooms . Now, here are my two cents Pros- 1. Check-ins were smooth 2. No adjoining rooms/cabins so you do get your privacy Could improve on - Somewhere I see a lag in service standards .. the response time to address guest requests ..bartender not available at the counter .. things like getting the door for the guests(esp when their hands are full).. If/when these small but important wrinkles are ironed out, I believe this property can scale and elevate to intl. standards

No wonder “National Geographic” has awarded this hotel one of the very few “unique stays” in the world. The hotel lies on a beautiful property (with a distant view of the mystical“Tiger’s Nest”); everything about the hotel is beautiful: from the elegant Bhutanese style main building to the tea house, spa/gym, and various gardens including the archery field The food and wines were delicious. The rooms are fantastic- spacious, modern with a Bhutanese touch, a comfortable balcony, and all the facilities of a 5 star hotel. It was a shame that the swimming pool wasn’t finished. One opportunity for improvement is the gym equipment- it’s there but not that good. Need better treadmill and elliptical, as well as a bench for dumbbells.

crystal clear mornings around minus 2 Celsius and sunny days of around 15 degrees Celsius were enjoyed over 2 nights. These rooms are a little rustic and yet warm and cosy and with a stunning view as they are set high above Paro. I recommend this hotel as its well located to the Airport and Tigers Nest.
