The place is very beautiful. It is stuck back in nature. Beautiful butterfly garden. Nice restaurant inside the jungle. It is an older resort that hasn't been kept up. It could use some paint, but it was clean and peaceful. The sauna wasn't hot enough to...More

We visited the site specifically to see the Blue River and it's local wildlife and scenery.

I would call or email the resort to be sure. However, they are well equipped to handle the terrain. Most use 4 wheeled vehicles. If you rent a vehicle, be sure and reserve a 4-wheeled one. The terrain after about 5-7 miles drop off to rocky and dirt roads. Kevin or Angelique (his wife) speak excellent English. I am sure they will be honest with you.

I am also a smoker. There was no smoking in the lodge or cabin, which is normal. We had a small porch. I would go on it and smoke either on the porch or in the road. I kept a pop can or bottle with water in it to put my butts so as to not litter and not cause a fire. In the dry season it would especially be easy to cause a fire. I do not remember an actual designated 'smoking allowed' area. As you may know, Costa Rica is working to have its residents not smoke -- part of their healthy life style. Personally I try to be respectful of them and still have my smoke. Hope this helps.
