We stayed 3 nights at Eleanor and Bill's lovely bed and breakfast in Cambria on the occasion of our anniversary. Very comfortable, clean room (we stayed in the Queen room, which has a king-size bed). Eleanor has clearly put a lot of thought into the rooms being well-stocked with everything one might need. We enjoyed the furnished outdoor deck...a perfect place for sitting and reading while listening to the fountain burble away.

Her Castle is just a few minutes drive to downtown Cambria or the awesomely beautiful Fiscalini Ranch Preserve. Also a decently short trip to Hearst Castle and the elephant seal viewing beach.

What could make it even better? Perhaps moving the rack of local tourism brochures to outside the room (a little distracting). Also, maybe arranging breakfast so items can be ordered ahead for each day as wanted, along with a place to pick up clean dishes and drop off the used ones.

All in all, a very worthwhile stay at a top notch place. We hope to return!

We stumbled upon this B&B looking for a last minute trip. We were not interested in a Motel 6 as we wanted to keep with the energy of village. Eleanor could not have been more accommodating! The room was charming and everything you could want. Attention to detail was off the charts with Eleanor making sure that the room lacked absolutely nothing. The hostess made sure we had everything, made herself accessible and gave us numerous ideas for things to do that were specific to the dates we were there. It reminded me of my trip through Europe staying in home style rooms where you felt like you were staying with relatives. I would highly recommend Her Castle Homestay and look forward to going back.

Eleanor was a Great host! The suite (King Bed) was down a set of stairs and had all the privacy needed. Extremely well furnished, all the other comments folks made were accurate - plenty of snacks, breakfast items, Wine, a few drinks, a Keurig with many coffee and tea options! Everything was provided, we felt extremely welcomed! Pamphlets on all the local attractions and Cambria has many eating options. We had a Friday/Saturday stay checking out on Sunday! This is a gem and again - Eleanor was great and extremely responsive, all arrangements done on text and she met us on arrival to show us our accommodations, you can tell she loves what she does and is very proud of the place!

Couple traveling to Cambria for reunion enjoyed staying at this simple B&B. The room was spacious enough for the two us with a nice little table to enjoy our breakfast. The room and bathroom are immaculate. It has a refrigerator on the patio holding drinks and breakfast food but large enough if you need leftover storage.
Eleanor was a great hostess helping us with places to eat and sites to see.
She was very accommodating and the welcome bottle of wine is a special touch.
HIghly recommend if you need accommodations

This was our 2nd time at Her Castle. Bill and Eleanor are wonderful hosts. We arrived and were able to park our car in the drive way and were welcomed like old friends. The room is spacious and the fridge is filled to the brim with all kinds of foods. On the table we found some scrumptious scones and a bottle of wine and fresh cut roses. We were celebrating my birthday, but I had not mentioned it on my booking. Eleanor went upstairs to get a nice "Happy Birthday" sign out to hang it on the wall. There is always plenty of coffee from a Keurig machine and extra bottled water as well as a variety of teas. The bed is very comfortable. It is a very quiet place in a nice off the beaten path neighborhood, however, it's just a short drive to town or to the ocean to walk along the cliffs of Fiscalini Ranch.

Besides the immaculate room wonderfully filled with snacks, coffee pods, movies and books, there are so many little surprises and Eleanor's touch hidden throughout the room. I have been bringing people to this lovely oasis on the mountainside for 7 years, and every time it's like coming home to family. Bonuses are Eleanor and Bill's love for their community and they seem to know everything about Cambria. Terrific place, terrific people, and I heartily recommend!

Bill & Eleanor made this an extraordinary couples getaway in the beautiful, secluded and highly wooded area of Cambria, California. It is like staying in a perfectly cozy, granny flat at your favorite aunt’s home. The detail and sensitivity to experience filters through every aspect of this wonderful bed and breakfast sanctuary. I’ll save the details of the room, the breakfast, the tour guide help as needed, and more… It will be a wonderful and blessed surprise when you stay. Thank you Bill & Eleanor for your gracious preparation and so very pleasant disposition. Jim & Melissa.

We had an extremely unpleasant experience at Her Castle and would not recommend this B&B to anyone. Her Castle ruined our holiday weekend. We believe this B&B practices unethical business methods, misrepresentation, and false advertising. We were screamed at, ripped off, and slept in a basement/garage with a toilet in the bedroom.

The B&B is owned and operated by Eleanor and Bill Seavey. When we called to book the queen room after viewing the website, we spoke with Eleanor, who confirmed that the queen was available. Their website shows photos of each room. Their website, as well as every B&B website they are listed on, explicitly states that the B&B has only two rooms: (1) a king room and (2) a queen room.

We spoke to Eleanor 4 times on the phone prior to our stay. Each time she confirmed that we were staying in the queen room of the B&B. When we arrived, Eleanor took us right past the two B&B rooms and into a third room. We were victims of a scam. The queen room was already occupied. She had already booked the two B&B rooms with other guests, charged us full-price for a B&B room, and stuck us in a completely different room in her house that wasn't even part of the B&B. Instead of staying in the queen room that was advertised and promised to us, we stayed in what Bill later informed us was a converted garage.

The two real guest rooms, as photographed and advertised on the website, each had identical high ceilings, nice carpeting, matching bedroom furniture with nightstands and a chest of drawers, television with cable, private bathroom with full amenities, and private deck. Our room was a dump. It was some sort of converted storage space that looked, smelled, and felt like a cold, damp basement. Our room had claustrophobic, cramped low ceilings, industrial carpet nailed into the floor, no bedframe, no nightstands, no deck, half-used soaps and lotions, and no television. Worst of all, the bathroom did not have a door. The toilet was basically part of the bedroom, which created an awkward situation every time we had to use the facilities. Please try to envision your romantic weekend getaway while going #2 in front of your sweetheart. It was cold and damp inside. The room had a noisy refrigerator that we had to unplug in order to sleep because it vibrated so loudly. To add insult to injury, we didn't even have a television, but Eleanor reprimanded us for accidentally unplugging the other guests' Direct TV connection when unplugging our noisy refrigerator.

It was obvious that this room was not part of the B&B and that, having already booked the real guest rooms, Eleanor was trying to make money by cramming in extra guests over the Labor Day weekend. Not only is this deceitful and dishonest, it is illegal. False advertising is an act of deliberately misleading a potential client about a product, service or a company by reporting false or misrepresenting information in advertising or other promotional materials. False advertising is a type of fraud. Additionally, false statements or promises made by a seller of goods or services regarding the quality or nature of the product constitutes misrepresentation.

When my boyfriend politely informed Eleanor the next day that we were not 100% satisfied with our room, she was deceitful and manipulative. We made no mention or attempt to ask for our money back. We did not raise our voices. We did not complain to the other guests. However, she was argumentative and dishonest and refused to acknowledge that she had misrepresented the room or that we were staying in a room that was not actually part of the B&B. I don't know how she said that with a straight face. We almost busted up laughing when she said our room was actually bigger than the "real" queen room. Yes, garages and basements tend to be bigger than bedrooms, but that doesn't mean it's okay to cheat people into staying in your garage or basement. Her behavior was absolutely reprehensible. Later, Bill apologized that we had gotten a raw deal and offered to give us a partial refund. But Eleanor, who was eavesdropping from the upstairs balcony, screamed "ABSOLUTELY NOT! Not with that breakfast! Try finding a motel down the street for the same price!" Lady, people don't care about a free breakfast when you rip them off and cheat them out of hundreds of dollars. Bill looked miserable and apologized again and said he had to obey his wife's orders.

The other guests staying in the real B&B rooms had no idea what was going on and assumed we were all staying in the same accommodations. They would have been shocked if they could have seen our miserable room and heard Eleanor repeatedly lying and then shrieking at us. Be forewarned: you may think you booked a queen or a king room, but when you show up, you may be paying for something entirely different.

I am not one to write bad reviews; you can check out my other reviews. My reviews tend to be positive with 31 helpful votes for 43 reviews. Without using words like flake or terms like, the elevator doesn't stop on all floors, I will simply give you the facts. My girlfriend and I booked this B&B in advance to our trip to Ca. We were excited to stay there, it had excellent reviews. As we were driving up the coast of California on the day we were scheduled to check in at this B&B, a few hours away from Cambria, we received a phone call from the owner. The owner attempted to convince my girlfriend not to come to Cambria because it was a very far drive. When my girlfriend informed her that we were coming anyway, as it was a part of our trip up the coast, the owner informed her that there was a family in our room that wanted to stay another night and that she didn't feel like making up the room. (so I guess there is no daily maid service??). When my girlfriend protested because we needed a place to stay, the owner then told my girlfriend that the room had a leak and that her husband didn't feel like fixing it. She refunding the money we paid in advance through paypal and gave us a few numbers to inns nearby that were all sold out. It is a shame we did not have the same experience others seem to have at Her Castle. If you decide to stay here, you may need a Plan B. This owner added additional stress to our vacation that was not necessary. If you are planning to drive up the coast and use this as a place to stay, or need a plan B, you may want to consider the BEST WESTERN PLUS Cavalier Oceanfront Resort in San Simeon close by. It has awesome views and fire pits at night. And if you get the opportunity to stay at her majesty's castle, make sure you let us know what we missed.

Thank you for your reference to our excellent reviews (we have over 100 five star reviews!). What happened with your reservation was unfortunate and we profusely apologize. However, there are circumstances when a host must cancel, and the reality is that we had a flooded suite that was unoccupiable (and no other suite was available). We would NEVER discourage anyone from coming to our wonderful town and DID make an effort to find you accommodations--as well as immediately refund your money (via Paypal). We want to emphasize that when you actually STAY at Her Castle, you will be treated like royalty! There is certainly no need for a Plan B...
