We were so happy with our stay here at the Mariner Cottage. It's the one in the back, so maybe a bit quieter, but still has an ocean-view due to the siting on the property. While the cottages are pretty small, they have everything a couple or single could need- thoughtful touches included tons of coffee with cream in mini-fridge, good tech, nice toiletries and even a windshield cleaning spot in the small parking lot. Lovely breakfast delivered each morning with a huge amount of scrambled eggs, wraps & juice. Any issues or help just up the road at the B. Dolphin. Recommend & hope to come again!
We stayed at the Seascape cottage (front most cottage). It was nicely furnished and the bed was comfy. It has a microwave and small refrig. The fireplace kept the room temp perfect. The sunsets and sunrises were beautiful. It was very clean. It also has a very large spa tub.
Stayed at the very pretty and bijoux sized Garden Cottage. The three stand-alone cottages are the perfect setup for this COVID-19 situation. Our cottage stands about 100 feet from the boardwalk, across the two-lane road. The bedroom area approximates 200 sq ft. The bathroom probably takes another 90 sq feet and has a separate shower stall, commodious jacuzzi tub, good-sized vanity and sink. Direct views of the ocean and stand of trees from the bedroom windows. Loved that the windows open, allowing for the crisp, fresh ocean breeze to freshen the room. Loved that there are heater and fireplace in the bathroom and bedroom, to warm the cold ocean breeze. Loved the skylight that could be opened and closed. Loved our warm, comfortable beddings and pillows which kept us very cozy during the night long after the fireplace had been shut off. Enjoyed bathing in the deep, soaking jacuzzi tub; we brought our own Eucalyptus bath salts and the bathroom smelled like a eucalyptus grove. Brought our own power strip bar, allowing us to charge our electronics in one spot; but if we only had our cell phones, then the outlets available would be sufficient. Loved the cute touch of Brown Bear mascot. We called him "Burrell" :-) Appreciated attention to small details like providing paper towels, windex, and windshield scraper at the parking area. I have never seen this "extra" anywhere else. Excellent next-door location to the Moonstone Bar and Grill, which is an elevated and upscale b&g...they also strictly observe Covid precautions for their guests. Brown-bag breakfast for the two of us was brought to the door at 8:00am promptly on each of the two mornings. Breakfast consisted of: 2 small canned orange juice, 2 mozzarella cheese sticks, 2 small yoplait yoghurts, 2 small muffins, 2 granola bars. For guests staying 2 nights or longer (2 breakfasts), I would suggest to vary the breakfast contents, say vary the type/flavor of muffin and granola bar and switch yoghurt and fruit cup between day 1 and day 2 breakfasts. Also would be nice to add a "meat" item such as turkey a/o beef stick. Parking is EXTREMELY tight. Making three-point turns within the parking area for a vehicle larger than a Toyota Corolla would be nearly impossible. We have a 2020 Corolla, and while we were able to turn around the car to face the street without "off-roading" into the soft dirt, it took several partial turns. Fortunately, there are two workarounds: (1) Park at the Blue Dolphin Inn parking. It is within 100 feet of the Moonstone Cottages (2 minute walk). (2) Park off-street, in front of Moonstone Cottage property. The armoire closet would have been sizable enough for our clothes, except that the placement of the iron holder blocked a quarter of the would-be available space. Would suggest re-positioning the iron holder to the bottom corner, so that it would not get in the way of hanging clothes. All-told, our stay at the Garden Cottage was a true high-point of our mini-vacation and will, hands-down, stay at the same cottage once more should we find ourselves again resting and renewing in the California Central Coast :-) !!!…
We stayed in Garden Gate (the middle cottage), which was a perfect place to get away for a couple of days. Although the cottages are tiny, they are well-appointed (TV, DVD player, microwave, fridge, Keurig, & even a small second sink in the kitchen area). Because it is set back from the street a bit, we were able to eat lunch on the picnic bench on our small, private deck without worrying about the dangers of having one's mask off in public. Breakfast is delivered just outside the door of the cottage between 8-8:30 AM. Although they call it a "continental" breakfast, it includes quite a few items, and there are pods for a variety of coffees and teas in the cottage. For our other meals, we got take-out. (Moonstone Grill is a couple of doors down the street, and Linn's Restaurant is worth a short jaunt into town even if you don't do anything else there.) There are two comfy wing-back chairs and a table in the cottage, a perfect place to eat if it's dark or too cold to enjoy the deck. Beyond that, we spent lots of time strolling along the beach and boardwalk. We saw lots of birds, a sea otter, seals sunning themselves on rocks, and sea anemones in the tide pools. Most people walking were wearing masks. At the end of the day, it was nice to enjoy the two-person jetted tub. I've included photos of the bathroom. All of the cottages really do have direct views of the ocean. It's hard to picture how this works until you get there, but it has to do with the way the driveway winds and very skillful placement of the cottages. Each cottage has a parking space in the back of the property.…
After having to cancel two trips due to COVID-19 we were itching to get out of The OC for a few days and needed some down time. After looking at several other nice accommodations in Cambria, we settled on the Moonstone Cottages because you have your own place, you are not sharing space, handles, elevator buttons etc with other people. We choose The Mariner cottage and it was perfect!! It is in the back but you have an unobstructed view of the Pacific ocean. And since it is in the back, you don't have people walking by your windows, as there are a lot of people walking along Moonstone Beach Dr. Because of COVID they say their breakfast provisions had changed, but each morning they still brought us a bag with apples, yogurt, cheese sticks, orange juice, granola bars and muffins. We really enjoyed our time here and if we come back would definitely consider staying there again. …
We were delighted with our recent stay at the Moonstone Cottages! We stayed in cottage #2, Garden Gate and it was charming. Everything you need is here, just bring the romance. Soft fluffy robes and towels, roomy jacuzzi, good quality amenities, coffee/tea maker, dishes, glasses and silverware. Small refrigerator and microwave too. But since you’re on vacation there is a conveniently located restaurant a few steps away. We spent time enjoying our beautiful view and strolling along the beach. This is definitely a home away from home with an amazing view and intimate local. Kudos Cambria Inns Collection for your superbly appointed rooms and your kind and personable staff. We’ll be back in September!
I’m really late on writing this review. However, if you’re looking for a super nice, private, and quiet escape, then consider Moonstone Cottages. My wife and I have years of experience. We had our first stay in the Mariner cottage in Sep 2011…yes, eight years ago. Then we stayed in Oct 2012, Oct 2013, Mar 2017, Dec 2017 (Christmas), Dec 2018, and we’ve reserved another 3 days this Christmas 2019. We’ve never stayed in the front or middle cottage but we’ve seen them from the outside and they do look nice. However, we like our privacy and the Mariner is the largest of the three cottages and it has EVERYTHING! The jacuzzi only holds one person, so if you’re looking to soak together, then you’ll need to consider the other two cottages. But the bathroom is HUGE and it’s all ADA compliant. We quite enjoy the architecture of the cottages. The Mariner has some very unique inside ceiling pitches in drywall with exposed wood-stained beams. Studying the architecture, you really appreciate what it took to design these cottages around the surrounding trees that are so old and utilization of every space to hold all the conveniences of home. Even though the Mariner is in the back of the property, all three cottages are offset to one another so each one has a view of the ocean. Sometimes I sit and just watch the ocean and try to catch glimpses of whales using the binoculars. The Mariner also has its own dedicated parking space right outside the door and bathroom window. The other two parking spaces are in the rear of the property, but not that far from their rooms. We were so especially pleased with the front desk staff at the Dolphin Inn during our stay Christmas 2017. We knew our restaurant selections would be limited during the holidays but the manager provided us a list of restaurants that would be open during Christmas Eve and Christmas. Now that is customer service that went way beyond what we were expecting (I hope they do it again this year). Even though it was Christmas, they still delivered our breakfast every morning!!! Well, as I said, we’re going there again this Christmas because we are unable to be with family so we’ll make it our mini-vacation. We do live on the Central Coast and are less than an hour away from Moonstone. We are well aware of the other hotel establishments in the area. With our 7th visit fast approaching, we would not consider any other place to stay in Cambria.…
The staff at Moonstone properties continue to exceed expectations. The Seascape Cottage is at the front and right across from the beach. I know of no better value on Moonstone Drive and I've stayed there a lot. The cozy room and jacuzzi-style tub for two was the perfect getaway for our wedding anniversary, and the staff even created and signed congratulations card...SO thoughtful. This is our permanent "place" in Cambria.
6 miles from Hearst Castle is a sleepy little gem of vacation rentals along Moonstone Beach . In the quaint ocean beach town of Cambria CA you will find artists shops to a French bakery ! Booked online and enjoyed the daily breakfast delivered to our cottage.
We only spent one night at Garden Gate the middle cottage. I wish we had stayed longer. These are small but complete units separate from the hotel/motel. They feel very private, it was like having my own cottage at the beach. There are just 4 units on a long narrow lot, each with it's own ocean view. Everything was comfortable, clean and fresh. It's right across from Moonstone Beach and the boardwalk. They bring you breakfast to your room. It was our anniversary and they brought us a cake. Everyone was nice.
