A century ago, Calistoga was a town centered around its bubbling natural hot springs and the beautiful weather of the Napa Valley. Today, it's a bucket-list destination for ardent wine lovers, foodies and wellness seekers for its particularly enviable version of the "good life." Solage was created to reflect its hometown spirit, drawing visitors as well as area vintners who come here after a day in the vineyards to relax over a glass of wine or a craft cocktail and connect.

We just spent a weekend at the Solage in Calistoga. I really wanted to love it. But I have to say that I liked it.

The rooms are in individual cottages spread out around the property. Ours was right next to the highway, so we did hear some road noise mostly when entering and exiting the unit. The room had a spacious private patio with two armchairs and a table, a water feature and plants, which creates a nice indoor-outdoor transition. The bathroom is built in the back of the room, with a shower and separate toilet room, but no bathtub. Closets are small, but perfectly fine for a quick weekend trip.

We found the room entertainment a bit lacking for the quality of the hotel. There is no music in the TV in the room unless you pay an extra $9 fee. No connection to Netflix or other streaming services - just pay per view movies. On the plus side, they did have free water, coffee and tea.

We had a couple of treatments at the spa, which is very airy with a chill vibe. On the first day, the attendant checked us in for the wrong appointment, sent us to the wrong waiting area, and never came to check on us. We had to figure out ourselves what was going on when we were 10min into our appointment time with still no one assisting us. That was a bummer. On the second day, things went better. The pool in the spa area closes at 6:30PM, so if you have a late afternoon treatment you might not have time for a dip afterwards. There is another beautiful, large pool in front of the restaurant, with lots of space - and kids running around.

The restaurant was a good, solid B. Great ambiance with nicely spaced out tables, heat lamps, and attentive service. Dinner food was again good, not great, with large dishes. The appetizer warm brioche bread was very tasty and the wine selections, as you’d expect, were unique. Breakfast had smaller portions of well prepared, typical breakfast fare. One worthy mention is that they charged $4 for one slice of sourdough toast, cut diagonally. Most expensive slice of bread I’ve ever been served.

All in all, it was a pleasant stay, but it certainly could have been more impressive...

My husband surprised me with a weekend here at a much needed time during the COVID pandemic. I was impressed with the easy and contact-free check-in process and the clean, minimalist room. Each room has its own bicycles to help you get around the large property. I had a lovely outdoor massage at the spa. The food at Sol Bar was delicious and room service breakfast was beautifully plated and yummy. I also made note of the way they had placed all the pool chairs a good distance apart. In fact, when the family lounging next to me pulled an extra chair up, a staff member immediately came by and offered to help them move a little further away from me so that they were respectful of social distancing requirements. Overall, poolside service was frequent and attentive. They also offered little treats, such as mini popsicles or iced coffee, every so often. It can be these little touches that make the difference, especially when choosing between multiple luxury properties in the Napa/Sonoma area.

This is my second time staying at the Solage Calistoga. The first time I only stayed one night and regretted that I wasn't there for longer. This time I stayed three nights, and though I still wished I had stayed longer it was heavenly! Given the times we're in with social distancing and being careful about spreading germs I was a little nervous about staying at a resort, but this was the perfect getaway. Having your own cabin (or studio as they call it) means you have to pass by less people and there's less risk of germ spreading. There was also plenty of space at the restaurant (outdoor dining with plenty of warm heat lamps) and pool areas. The staff is very friendly and though it's a luxury property everyone is very friendly and warm. I will definitely be coming back here again.

Solage in Calistoga is a beautiful property. It is also very expensive. We paid over $3000 for a 4 night stay. I do not paying the money of the experience is perfect. However, there were many issues that were very disappointing:
1) Our check-in stated 3 PM. Our room was not ready until 4 PM. We were waiting around and nobody told us the room was ready. We had to go to the reception desk and ask.

2) The pool manager was rude and did not help us setup some chairs with towels. I politely asked him on Sunday to help me setup 4 chairs with towels and his response was I will do it shortly. I went to breakfast and when i came back the chairs were not ready. He never came by to see how we were doing and did not apologize for not helping us.
3) We were suppose to receive 90 dollars per night in credits for incidentals and if i had not asked the front dsk for the credits they would have not given them to us. I am still not sure if we received them. Their bill statement was not clear. Seems like hey make it confusing on purpose.
4) There is no evening turn down service. For paying over 600 USD per night and 800 USD on weekends, you would expect evening turn down service.
5) There are no quality amenities in the refrigerator. Only water and sparkling water and they did not replenish it.

Overall the experience was poor for the amount of money we paid. I expected more from them. Very sad.

For a $1600 room, go elsewhere. I really don’t understand all the amazing reviews.

We are currently staying and I have to start the the grounds are beautiful by restaurant/ pool and room tastefully done. Bed is comfortable and robes cozy. At this price point you’d expect a fridge with a few comp drinks and snacks, but you’ll only find water here. Our room also lacks privacy, there is only a short hedge in front of the glass sliders, so you really have to have the sheers pulled. I’ve noticed it’s like this for most rooms. Also the landscaping in general is sparse around the bungalows. I heard they recently did a reno and it looks like they ran out of money in the landscaping department.

On this trip, we traveled with our 2 dogs and paid the $150 fee. Assured we’d arrive to bowls, beds and treats - there was nothing. Called and they only brought us a tiny dog bed, not even a bowl. Again at this price point service should be perfect.

We had dinner at their main restaurant and it’s a hard pass. It’s almost painful to watch the food come out and see your money go down the drain. In 80 degree heat, it took 10 mins for them to even come to our table to greet us and I had to ask for water which never got re-filled. The cold corn chowder soup, while delicious, was the smallest portion I can imagine. For $16 I think there was a 1/2 cup of soup. They did pour it into the bowl in front of you, maybe to help you think you’re somewhere nicer than you are. Parker House rolls were delicious but beware, for $10 you basically get one roll that breaks into tiny rolls. It was laughable. Miso cod was over cooked and just gross. We came back to our room after and ordered kids meal from room service, which was far more fun.

All this being said, they do have cute s’more boxes for guests to take to fire pit and staff was very friendly.

Overall, at this price pint you expect better service, food and accommodations like you’d find at gems San Ysidro Ranch or Post Ranch. We were given a comp breakfast when we booked which was appreciated and unexpected. This place is a hard pass next time for us but maybe we just caught them at a bad time or maybe because I’m 8 months pregnant, I’m just cranky! Regardless we will try somewhere else next time and hope for a better experience for our money.

We stayed three nights at Solage during our trip to Napa. Entire property seemed to be in great condition. I read in early reviews that there was construction within property but it must have finished. It’s not a big property but it was designed in such way that it seems everything is private and spread out. There are many water features throughout the property that give nice relaxing vibe.

We stayed at regular king room which was plenty big for two of us. All the rooms are it’s on unit so the walls are shared and it’s pretty quiet. Sitting area outdoor was a nice bonus. We drank coffee in the morning, my husband took his business calls there etc. Room decor was casual yet calm and beautiful. Very California. I liked bracelet room key which all the luxury hotels seem to be going with. Solbar was hit or miss with my dairy and gluten free diet. I had such a great dining experiences at all other restaurants that it stood out. Avocado toast I ordered had cheese which made the dish was taken out due to my allergies but chef didn’t modify it in anyway that it was literally a lot of avocado slices sitting on a dry gluten free bread…I had to ask for a dressing of some sort. Then dressing I got later wasn’t really good either. Picobar was great. I had duck mole taco and it was delicious. We only had one afternoon to enjoy the mineral pools with different temps and features. It was very luxurious and fun not to mention relaxing. I also got 90 min massage which was very expensive but it was one of the best. I didn’t get to use their main pool which is huge. The pool was never crowded. There were some kids but pool was quiet. My husband used the pool and he say it was nice.
Calistoga location gave us nice mineral pools but because we were mostly going to Yountville, St Helena and Healdsburg, we had to drive 30-50 mins to get to our destinations. But we knew that so we were fine with it.

Overall we had a great stay and would come back again!

This was our second time staying at the Solage, this time during the pandemic. The room was spacious and peaceful. The food was delicious and the cocktails were incredible. Sean, the restaurant/bar manager took time to greet and chat with us everyday. The hotel staff were ensuring the rooms were clean and social distance measures were practice through out the resort. Lounge chairs were coupled in twos and towels were laid out at every other coupled of chairs. Masks were worn by every staff member and guest were also wearing masks in all common areas. We look forward in staying at this resort in the near future.

Very nice and welcoming staff, and well maintained property. But honestly, we won’t be coming back to this property… The price tag just does not merit what you get.

We’ve stayed at a handful of similarly priced luxury/boutique hotels in the wine country, and at this price point I expect deluxe attention to details: softer sheets and towels, more mature privacy/screening from the rooms to the outside, a better stocked (and restocked) mini fridge, more than 2 Nespresso pods for the 2 of us. It’s the attention to details that separates the outstanding from the decent, and Solage was just decent.

We experienced a power outage at 5am on the first evening of our stay. The staff did not notify us regarding the outage or any of the issues stemming from the outage. We learned from our friends that the Solbar was serving a modified breakfast, but we spent most of the morning rearranging our reservations as there was no indication when the power would be restored and there was smoke and ash falling. By the time we had made our arrangements to check out early, the Solbar had closed for breakfast but the Front Desk did not offer any compensation for the meal, nor for the inconvenience of the outage. Though we understand that the outage was not under their control, they did not seem apologetic, helpful, or even friendly/empathetic as we scrambled to change our plans. It did not leave a good impression on us as we left.

Aside from that, our first afternoon and evening was very enjoyable. We enjoyed the five geothermal pools, the wonderfully infused water available at the spa, the bikes they provided to cruise around the property, and the room. Our fridge didn't work but they promptly gave us a new one. The patio of our bungalow had a nice firepit and fountain, and the robes in the room were AMAZING.

All in all, I'd imagine we would've had a very pleasant stay had there not been the outage. Since fires are an unfortunate annual experience, we expected the staff to be better prepared for how to help the guests.

Arrived earlier than we had expected, but a room was made available. The woman at the front desk took time to patiently explain the amenities and features of the resort to my daughter, and answered every question. The food was a ten, the accommodations were a ten; and being able to borrow bikes and take them off property was a really nice feature. I would recommend this stay to anyone. As someone who typically stays at Four Seasons and Ritz Carlton, the Auberge Resorts were a really pleasant and lovely departure and brought my level of expectation to a whole new level. Well done. And upon leaving, the bill was (no surprise) accurate.
