We finally got reservations at Meadowlark country House right outside of Calistoga (they book quickly so plan ahead if you’d like to stay there). We were not sure what to expect as we have not stayed at a bed-and-breakfast style inn before. We were happily surprised to enjoy one of the best days we’ve ever had in Napa. The rooms in Meadowlark are immaculate, perfectly clean and exceptionally comfortable. The owners are very respectful and laid back as well as the staff. I even asked Maria for a more comfortable pillow and ended up with a fabulous neck specific choice.
Each morning the inn serves breakfast out on a romantic veranda. The pool is beautiful and relaxing and we ended up spending quite a bit of time there. It is quiet and lovely.
I appreciated the attention to detail…liquid hand soaps throughout the property were high-quality and fragrant, late summer flowers everywhere and well tended gardens were a delight.
We had room number four which was incredibly spacious and also hosted a back veranda the length of the entire house.
The waters in the pool ate mineral from the property’s own well as well as the rest of the water on the property. Maybe it’s something in the water, but this is a place that will help you relax, slow down and reacquaint with your significant other. We highly recommend!

Thank you,Yes it is a magic place. It is more then a bed and breakfast, more then a lodging and resort. It is an experience. For so many years guests arrived from all over the world and coming back . Meadowlark is different. Nothing commercial. Beauty, .space ,great hosts, warm welcome, large suites and all the other thing other places don't have.not to forget the horses and our watchdog Sparky. It is so uplifting to read your review. Looking forward to your visits again. Kurt

I just spent 3 glorious days and nights at this magical Inn. I initially booked a 2 night stay, but loved it so much I stayed an extra night. I’ve stayed at a few other places in Calistoga throughout the years but Meadowlark is hands down my absolute favorite! It’s tucked away to where you really feel like you’ve gone to a different time and space. As soon as I drove onto the property I immediately felt relaxed. Kurt and Richard are the owners and instantly welcomed me in such a way I felt I was family which was very comforting being a single woman traveling solo. They are the most gracious hosts who genuinely care about their guests. There were a mix of repeat guests and newcomers such as myself and whether you want to socialize or need some solitude R&R this is the perfect place for it. There are so many cozy nooks on the property to gather or read a book quietly. The mineral pool is magical, hot tub is just the right temperature and the sauna is an added treat! I loved walking the grounds, visiting the horses, chickens and birds. Marie prepared 3 amazing breakfasts using the freshest eggs from the chickens on the property. The rooms are beautifully decorated with amazing views and I appreciated the care taken in cleanliness during these times of Covid. I absolutely loved my stay here. The only disappointment I have is that I didn’t find this magical place years ago. I’m already looking for a time I can go back!
See you soon Kurt & Richard!

Hello dear Rose. You wrote such a great review for the world to read. Yes it can be discomforting going to a resort as a single women and feeling out of place. But not at meadowlark. We are very much in tune with our guests. We always know how to make sure our guests feel at home. We have hosted so many guests including single women. Of course single men as well. But women need to feel save when going to a resort alone. We are always there. We help and recommend and make sure the visit will be great. Yes we doing this for all the guests as well. Your review is so much describing Meadowlark in the best way. Return soon. We enjoyed your company as well. Thank you. Kurt

My girlfriend and I stayed at Meadowlark for one night at the end of November and had a wonderful stay. The grounds - complete with beautiful trees, several horses, and a beautiful red barn - felt like they were out of a storybook, there was something truly magical and very relaxing about spending time on the property. We particularly loved being able to take advantage of the luxurious hot tub. We stayed in the garden room (we definitely recommend it), which also has its own very large bathtub, which we took advantage of as well. Kurt and Richard were wonderful hosts, we loved chatting with them, and their small dogs who follow them around are adorable. The bed and quality linens were very comfortable as well, and breakfast was delicious. It's a great time to stay here, whether you have an event nearby, are traveling from out of state, or are just looking for a staycation, as it's unlikely to be as crowded. My only regret is that we didn't stay longer!

My Fiancé and I chose Meadowlark for our stay in the Napa Valley area. Located 4-5 minutes from the Main Street of Calistoga, it is a convenient location to tons of wineries and 25 minutes or so from both St Helena and Santa Rosa. The Meadowlark is as described, a set of country houses with uniquely designed and decorated rooms. Owners Kurt and Richard have developed this property over a number of years and take great pride in providing an excellent experience for their guests. Our room had a fireplace available for the wintertime and plenty of available windows and back doors for the more mild weather months. The AC worked great if you want that as well. The bathroom was large and airy with a huge tube and whirlpool type capability if you so desire. There is a small refrigerator and iron/iron board if you need those items as well.
Each day when breakfast is served, Kurt and Richard mingle with the guests while serving breakfast and chatting with everyone. Breakfast is different everyday and if you have special dietary request they will do their best to accommodate you.
The grounds provide for leisure and relaxation. Their history of involvement in the equestrian world is well represented in both decorations and the horses that are on the property. Chickens maintained and cared for provide your eggs for breakfast. Stroll through the grounds and take time to enjoy the area.
The warm pool and sauna areas are very relaxing and yes, clothing is optional. If this idea bothers you you might want to find another option for your stay in Napa Valley. Please read their website fully as they do not try and hide this in any way. Showing up and complaining about this aspect of the resort demonstrates YOU did not read through the description of the Meadowlark resort. That being said relax…..it’s your option. Wear something or don’t at the pool. No one cares.
As the sign outside the main door says, “If you are in a hurry you’re in the wrong place.” Come visit and have a fun time. Enjoy the convenience to the local area. Kurt and Richard take your stay seriously. After all, it’s not just their business, it is their home and they want you to enjoy it as much as they do. We had a great time and I’m sure you will as well

Mineral water pool is a must for relaxing. The rooms are very well appointed and have over sized tubs that have me wishing for one at home. Richard and Kurt are very gracious hosts that we enjoyed having breakfast with each morning. Eggs and herbs for breakfast come from the onsite garden and chickens so you are sure to get a great start to the day. We will be back again and again!

There are not enough stars in the beautiful night sky of California to rate this resort. Recently traveled for two nights and booked this place in the hurry without reviewing all details. Especially "clothes optional" was one of the surprises discovered at the first day by going to swimming pool where guest and owners exercised this option. But, unfortunately, it was not first and last surprise.
The room did not seem like it had been cleaned well before quest's arrival. Sheets, towels and robes showed wear and very poor quality. In addition, the rooms, although relatively expensive, poorly decorated with pretty cheap stuff . The private patio outside our room had lounge chairs and dirty seat cushions. The pool/hot tub and common area were inconveniently located and were surrounded by dirty lounge furniture without sign of recent cleaning service. It is located close to the road and you can hear noise as cars pass by.
But this was only the beginning of our "enjoyment" of this place.
The next morning we went for breakfast that was a part of the package. According to the website, it suppose to be "delicious breakfast prepared with fresh, local, and organic ingredients from farmers markets and local growers whenever possible. Special dietary requests accommodated".
We were seated with another couple to share a table that even was not cleaned and served with coffee jar that was used by them. It was more than strange taking in consideration Covid situation.
The breakfast did consist of single item without any alternative options.
When we asked if they can offer anything else for breakfast and wash grapes then a full hospitality of the owner by name Kurt was demonstrated . He approached our table and asked if we have any problem, and we said no. Then he continued his speech with comments that this place is only for happy people and unhappy people should leave this property. We asked him to stay away from our table, but he replied that it is his place and he can do anything he wants. He asked us to leave immediately his property ( it was 10am and departure is 12pm) as he does not allow to anybody to make negative comments about his place. He simply could not stop his anger and control his emotions. Furthermore, he said that we should go away where we came from hinting on our accent. All incident was recorded.
Just to be clear: It happened only when we asked about breakfast.
We travel to California for many years, few times per year, but never have been confronted with such racist remarks: Go away where you came from.
This type of behavior should not be tolerated at any place at any time. These people must be hold away from hospitality business

To all my Guests reading this review. I have been anticipating this review on trip advisor after I had to tell this guest who is writing this review to leave immediately after breakfast and to check out at 12:00 as well as cancelling the next day stay. It started from the beginning with demands and critics of meadowlark. Going in to the kitchen and criticizing my staff of 20 years how to prepare food and what to prepare does not work at meadowlark. Acting demanding is not what we tolerate at meadowlark. The morning breakfast was nothing but a criticism of what we complimentary provide to our guests. It continued with every thing what meadowlark is all about. I had to listen to the rude demands to Richard, my partner in front of all the other guests trying to enjoy the morning having breakfast. When the conversation went too far I steeped in and try to explain how we and other establishment handling breakfast included. There is no menu to select from. Every day we serve something interesting. That started this guests calling meadowlark all kind of derogatory names and criticizing the other guest the meet the night before. Berating my establishment could not continue and I ask the guest to find another venues. When her verbal response started another demand and argument I stopped the guest from continue to verbally berating me and Meadowlark I ended up telling this guest her action are enough for me to through her out of my establishment. All my guest had to experience at the breakfast time this unusual behavior of this guests and her berating of me, Meadowlark, of everything what is Meadowlark. We have great guests and have great reviews. Sometimes the expectations of a guests can not be met .This is the time to better the let them go. At this situation the guests told us she will not leave, I had no choice but to through her out, which i did. Kurt ?Owner

My wife and I are in our early 30s and we love to find authentic travel experiences and Meadowlark was definitely one of our favorites. We stayed during the late October monsoon, but that didn't dampen our spirits. We enjoyed the hot tub and sauna which are covered outside but still very scenic. Breakfast from Maria each morning was good and meeting all of the guests was a great start to the day. Being able to speak with Kurt and Richard about the property's history was also very interesting.
The room was your normal cozy B&B type, and we were completely happy with it. The location is close to everything in Calistoga, which makes it stress free for a first timer to the area. We will definitely be back in the future.

We have stayed here many many times. You feel like you're at your home away from home, such hospitality and care from the hosts. The rooms are all unique and comfortable and the surrounding grounds are beautiful, full of flowers, trees and greenery. The pool is a nice relaxing spot, very peaceful. The breakfast is delicious and served in the very casual relaxing atmosphere. I don't think you'll get better service anywhere in Calistoga as Richard and Kurt know how to treat their guests!

Thank you Chrissie. This review is so right on. It is a very different place from the many other busy and crowded places in the Napa Valley. After so many years of hosting our guests we know how to tread them with kindness and respect. The large pool is so relaxing for all of us and we know how important a pool is in the summer. Breakfast is the time when we enjoy our guests and try to help with reservation or questions they may have. I can see you enjoyed yourself at Meadowlark. Looking forward seen you soon. Kurt

Enjoyed our third visit to the Meadowlark Country House. Each time we have stayed in a different room and all have been wonderful. This visit we stayed in the pool room and loved it for its comfort and the ability to walk from your room directly to the pool and spa area. Breakfast great every time and Kurt and Richard are very welcoming hosts. Pool area is incredible and we will definitely stay again!

A nice review to read, Thank you for the time writing. We have to correct your Headline. It is not a clothing optional B&B or lodging or resort. Only the great pool and spa areas are clothing optional. But the other great things you are writing about are all what it is. A great resort with welcoming hosts. We are looking forward to your next visit. Kurt
