The Roman Spa Hot Springs Resort comes highly recommended for its cleanliness, with guests consistently commending its well-maintained grounds and pristine pools. While the hotel's pricing is generally considered reasonable, a few guests have mentioned unexpected fees. The resort boasts multiple mineral pools and enchanting gardens, but opinions on the spa facilities and room decor are split, with some finding them outdated. The staff garners appreciation for their friendliness, yet there have been some letdowns in spa service and check-in experiences. The resort's location is widely praised for its proximity to local attractions.

As always, the staff at Roman Spa made our stay a relaxing and peaceful one with our two kids. The water in the pool was sparkling clean, as was our room. Hand sanitizer was provided in the room, and there were well-placed cones at the pool indicating correct physical distance. But there was never a crowd, and it was a time and place when we actually managed to forget about the pandemic for a while and just enjoy the weather and the sun and the hot springs.

This is a favorite of mine due to it's central location , gardens and pools. Never crowded and very relaxing! I keep going back!
Pools: Nice main Mineral Springs pool as well as indoor mineral pool(at a higher temp) and a hot tub
Property: Great outdoor spaces in a lovely garden environment, including BBQ's for guests to use and several courtyards with tables, fountains and plenty of greenery!
Spa: Offers mud baths, mineral baths, massages and a few other services on site (reasonably priced)
Rooms: Simple but sufficient and very clean, beds are comfy! In room amenities could use some upgrading (like coffee)
Service: Front desk is always welcoming and very helpful. Always do their best to meet your needs, requests or address any issues. Very nice about allowing use of pools before/after check-in / check out times:)
Location: Awesome- one block from town center. They have parking and you can walk anywhere in town! Also have bike rentals on site.

I would recommend this place. Jacuzzi in room was a bit over priced but still had a good time.
great location to the restaurants , walking distance to everything. I stayed in room 130 and it was great.
Double sided fire place was a plus. Parking was not an issue, I paid $1100 for 2 nights which didn't include any type spa treatment. The spa treatment should included in the stay when renting the Jacuzzi rooms. If the spa treatment was included in the $1100.00 cost this place would be really worth it. I would visit more frequently. No real issues with this place, I felt the staff was nice and very helpful. Great location to all the nearby shops!!!

Thank you for your comments. I'm glad you enjoyed our Jacuzzi Suite with the piped in geothermal water, 6 foot walk glass shower with 2 rain heads, dual fireplace and numerous other amenities. I'm sorry you felt the room was overpriced. At $439 pre-tax per night, which included your AAA discount, the majority of our guests find the room to be fairly priced. However, I would suggest you consider one of our packages in the future that include spa treatments, this provides both a discounted room and spa treatment which may be a better option. We hope to have the opportunity to serve you again in the future.

After a stay at this hotel, management sent me a survey soliciting my feedback. Despite a busy schedule, I took the time to complete the survey, as there was a lot of good about the experience but it also could be better, with small changes. This is the response from management: "I'm sorry to hear we did not live up to your expectations. I'm sorry you find the housekeeping fee "annoying," as previously stated, to prepare the room prior to your arrival and during you stay to provide any additional items is part of the fee. I would advise you to never a rent a house for a vacation since the "housekeeping fee" is typically $100 or more and they never enter the home once you check in. Additionally, don't consider a cruise or travel to a high- end island establishment that will inform you of towel count and fees, missing items in the room fees, damage fees, etc.
In regards to hotel check in and check out times are either 3 pm and 11 am or 4 pm and noon, each are "standard" in the industry.
I'm sorry if their wasn't enough umbrellas during the time at the pool, I do know another umbrella was placed by the pool to accommodate.
Clearly, we are not the property for you, however, I hope a different property in Calistoga will meet your needs and desires.
Sincerely,
Kathy Quast
Proprietor"

We enjoyed the mineral pools and liked the lovely gardens. However, facilities could use some updating. 2 complaints:
-Mud bath spa treatment was "ok" with very limited interaction with staff, but still a 20% gratuity was automatically added to the bill. I would've preferred giving my own tip in cash.
-The housekeeping staff rushed us out of our room at 10:45am (knocked on door and waited outside room) even though check-out was 11am.

Thank you for providing feedback. I will speak with our housekeeping supervisor related to the 10:45 am housekeeping arrival, indeed 11 am is the checkout time and is typically respected. As for the spa, the 20% gratuity is noted both on the confirmation as well as on our website, we do allow our guests to adjust the rate if they choose to do so. Additionally, we post in both places that we do not accept cash for services or gratuities. I hope we have the opportunity to serve you again in the future.

We found this place old, needing a full remodel. From dated carpets, old furniture, shades that don't work, plumbing that is slow in the shower, tacky artificial plants in planters in the inner jacuzzi that look like the decorations of a cheap honeymooners suite from the 60s in Vegas. To top it off, the staff who checked us in was snobby, impatient,
Unkind. She thought she was royalty and that this hotel was Buckingham Palace. It isn't.
The curtains barely give privacy, the room is so stuffed with furniture that one can barely move around. The toilet was slow and the drains were clogged. This is one of the worse hotels we've stayed at and they charge as if they were worth it

My sincere apologies that we failed on so many levels for you. Since we offer 3 styles of rooms, from Classic to a Jacuzzi Suite, I'm guessing you may have stayed in our Classic room with traditional style furniture which has had several updates in the past few years which include carpet, drapes, and numerous other soft goods. All drapes have blackout shades which provide both privacy and darkness in addition to the sheers, each of which are functional in every room. You discuss the silk plants for the indoor pool, but I hope you enjoyed our 1,000's of annuals throughout the property as well as our 3 geothermal pools. Again, I'm sorry your experience was not as you had expected.

The lodge staff was amazing. Front desk staff very welcoming and even provided bathing suits when we realized we had forgotten ours. The pool/jacuzzi and sauna were well taken care of and we noticed the technician often checking the water temp. Resident cat was a plus. The room we stayed in was crowded with unnecessary furniture and a rug that didn't seem appropriate for a spa setting. The detached spa where we had massages was underwhelming at best

This was our second visit to Roman Springs. We enjoyed the Splendido suite so much that we rented one of the suites again on this return trip. The suite is large and the bed is comfy. Having the mineral spring pool in the room is wonderful and it's even better with the gas fireplace. The large, glass shower with two showerheads is something to behold. The deck furniture is very cushy and it's awesome to sit outside with a glass of wine and just hang out.

The room was one of the cleanest hotel rooms I've stayed in. We also felt very COVID safe in the room as well as when we walked through the well kept grounds. Since we had our own mineral tub in the room, we didn't venture into the pool or spa. We are lazy like that :)

We also really appreciate the peace and quiet that Roman Springs provides. This really adds to the relaxing experience there. The staff is friendly and very attentive.
I can honestly say that Roman Springs is our new favorite place to stay in Calistoga!

Thank you for the very kind comments. We are grateful for your visit as well as returning again so soon after your first visit. We would agree, the Splendido Jacuzzi Suite is quite luxurious and provides an amazing experience. We greatly appreciate the comments related to the cleanliness, our housekeeping staff are extremely detailed orientated and take great pride in providing each guest with not only a clean but thoroughly sanitized room (it takes over 3 hours to clean that Suite to what we consider an acceptable level). We also appreciate your comments about the relaxing experience which is a hallmark of our mission. We look forward to serving you again in 2021! Happy holidays.

Naturally heated geothermal mineral pools are the draw for this resort, but there is so much more to enjoy. The buildings are separated by lovely garden vignettes with fountains, there are outdoor bar-be-que grills for guest use, and the double rooms each have a for-real kitchen with dining table/chairs. Social gatherings naturally seem to emerge in this relaxed and fun atmosphere, which is suitable for families and groups as well as for couples. If you desire a quieter room consider booking one of the kings at the rear of the property near the spa away from the pools. Also, the property is located only one block off of the main street which means anything in downtown Calistoga (including the market) is just a stroll away.

This beautiful, comfortable, quiet, and relaxing resort is in the center of Calistoga, just a block from the main street. The geothermal mineral pools are amazing as they're naturally heated, and you have an indoor and an outdoor pool to choose from. The grounds are beautifully maintained and are aesthetically pleasing as well as aromatic to complete your relaxing vibe. The staff absolutely go out of their way to assist you with everything you need, but also are not intrusive. The room was dated but extremely comfortable and clean. We had a two room suite, along with a stocked kitchen, oven, stove and refrigerator. It was extremely nice to have the option to have quick bites in between pool time and exploring, and being able to cook dinner versus going out to eat every meal. Roman Spa also offers a beautiful patio area with gas grills. If cooking isn't your thing, you're just a minute or two away from amazing restaurants, quaint local owned shops, and the best ice cream shop around. Roman Spa is suitable for families, groups, and couples. Book your stay in advance, as they fill up fast!

You know, I don’t recall if there were lockers. But I know we went in our clothes and changed there in one of the massage rooms and were given robes. After the mud bath, there was a shower and then a mineral spa bath and then back to the room we had gotten the robes for us to lie down a moment with cucumbers on our eyes - very relaxing.

Hello, Yes our pool are open with a reduced capacity of 50% for each pool as well as 6 ft distancing markers. We have not encountered any issues related to maximum capacity. If we were to reach capacity at any given time, we would ask guests to limit the time to 1 hour and then share time with other guests. We have asked each of our guests to be respectful and courteous of others wishing to utilize the pools, and as stated there have not been any issues thus far. I hope we have the opportunity to serve you.

The jacuzzi has a sign that says children are not allowed who are under I think it is 13 years of age. In general kids who are active and running and wanting to splash and play in the water this is probably not the most ideal property for them.
