The Quarter Circle U Rankin Ranch is truly a well kept secret, located deep in California's Tehachapi Mountains. It has been a working cattle ranch since the days of the Civil War, and the Rankin family still raises White Face Hereford cattle just as their ancestors did over 150 years ago. Guests travel from across the United States and around the world visit this guest ranch. They enjoy the fact that it is a "real" working ranch, and are fascinated with its century old history. Many guests emphasize the importance of the "family" atmosphere; meeting and visiting with Rankin family members is routine as they all live right on the ranch...4th, 5th and 6th generations. "Western hospitality" is part of your package! The favorite activity at the ranch has always been the horseback riding. We have both adult and children's rides (riding starts at age six) which explore our meadows, Walker's Basin Creek, and mountain ridges overlooking our beautiful little valley. The guided trail rides are about one hour long and all levels of riders are welcome. Parents and grandparents especially appreciate the supervised children's program for ages 4-11 during Spring Break and the summer months. They enjoy arts and crafts, hikes, and visits to the animal farm. Other ranch activities include swimming, hiking, fishing (trout stocked pond), shuffleboard, ping pong, recreation room and planned evening activities. Adventure West...Kidstuff says, "A full operation cattle ranch, Rankin offers a fun filled, down home kind of vacation, complete with tradition, history and diversions for both young and old."

I really don't know where to start this place is super Awesome as far as cleanliness the cabins still look of vintage but are super clean and you not show a lot of where awesome showers with hot water instantly They are spaced out perfectly And are equipped with a coffee maker AC nice heater a ceiling fan day bed a twin bed and a Queen bed with dressers and a nice size closet The best part of this Ranch is definitely the Staff they are the nicest most hospitable Accommodating always have a smile on their face and very organized Whether you're dealing with Amanda shelby or Sarah up front in the office or with Fernando and Kellen Doing the horseback riding. And Jose is always around keeping the place looking awesome. There are so many activities way too many to listWe do not have small kids but we did see to camp counselors that kept the kids very busy. This place has an activity Room swings sports equipment a pond that start with rainbow trout with paddle boats also you can do archery or play at the Creek or go on hikes when not horseback riding or other planned events. Like ISaid in the heading there is no cell service here you get Wi-Fi for 2 hours between 3 and 5 at the office and as far as food goes there is not a menu to pick from which is actually really nice all the food served was warm fresh and tasty and home cooked with dessert at the end of lunch and dinner they even cooked up the fish we caught and served it to whoever wanted some and it was done very well. I don't think we would have ever went here if it wasn't for the quarantine but we found this plays by chance and weConsider ourselves very lucky to have gone here and had these experiences with this family that runs this working cattle ranch it was a great time and the hay ride to the barbecue in the Meadow is awesome I would also suggest you get some of the home raised meat to take home. I'm probably forgetting a ton of things but all in all I can't say enough about how good the staff was and I highly recommend it if you have a family with kids this is an adventure they will never forget bikes are welcome.

We spent two days at Rankin Ranch as part of our special anniversary road trip from Las Vegas to San Francisco and everything about the Ranch truly exceeded our expectations! The Rankin family and all staff were super friendly and went out of their way to make our visit as unforgetable as possible, special thanks to Shelby at reception who made us so welcome and dealt with all our needs. The scenery is spectacular and you truly know you are in cowboy country, - at times you could be forgiven for thinking you were on the set of a western movie! The horse rides were fantastic and the wranglers are very adept at choosing the right horse for your level of experience, first ride was a pleasant meander through the meadow past grazing cattle and we also saw coyotes, ground squirrels and even American Bald Eagles! The second ride was to The Lookout which was the high point of the mountain overlooking Walker Basin and was a fantastic experience, special thanks to Wranglers Marie and Fernando who took us out on our rides. The food was superb home cooked fare and the steaks, which were from their own cattle, were to die for! A beautiful, peaceful (No TV, Radio, Internet, cellphone), friendly corner of the world to spend a few days, even a heated pool to relax by, would highly recommend! P.S. - Internet access available 2 hours per day which allowed us to keep in touch with family etc.

Our family of 2 grandparents, 4 parents & 5 grandkids stayed 4 days at Rankin Ranch this week. We were here last year and loved it so much we came back this year. Everything about the ranch is incredible! The 31,000 acres in the Tehachapi Mountains are absolutely beautiful. The horses are much better than those at most dude ranches. The wranglers are outstanding horseman with excellent people skills. The rides are ridden through picturesque land. The cabins are squeaky clean and well appointed. The 3 meals per day are excellent. There is a very nice, large swimming pool. There are many fun, old fashioned activities for adults and kids. The most impressive thing about the ranch is the staff. I do not understand how they find such outstanding people. A stay at Rankin Ranch is not cheap but we feel it is an outstanding value for what we received. We’ll be back next year.

There are not words to express how grateful I am for the wonderful experience that my family had at the Rankin Ranch. This is truly a family run ranch, and families don't get much more gracious, kind, or hospitable than the Rankins. I had never seen any accommodation that had such high reviews both on here and on Yelp. I was skeptical because some of the photos of the accommodations or of the ranch looked very out of date. I can assure you that as people who love their creature comforts, the Ranch is the perfect combination of comfortable accommodations while letting you know that you are actually staying at a working ranch. Our daughter is 6 and loves horses, and this was the perfect trip for her. We were worried because she doesn't have much riding experience (two weeks at a horse camp), but the horse wranglers were amazing and taught her and my wife (zero riding experience) everything they needed to know to go out on two rides a day over the beautiful terrain. By the end, they were both trotting over the terrain on their horses. The food is amazing! We actually bought their cookbook so we can make it at home. The animals are very well taken care of and our daughter loved tending to them during the animal care time at 6:00 each day. We didn't really understand going in, how well scheduled the activities are for kids. Everyday there is a schedule of activities for kids and the staff keeps them busy with great fun all day (when they're not out riding). There are a ton of things for adults to do: pool, foosball, table tennis, archery, sports, a swimming pool (we didn't use because it was still too cold). There are also great hikes nearby through lovely valleys and hills. There is a stocked trout pond and stream. We caught a five pound rainbow trout, which was a blast. The Ranch cook even prepared it for us. As busy LA people, the thought of not having internet or phone service for a period of time sounded impossible, but I was actually quite grateful to be able to completely disconnect. For two hours a day, they have satellite internet, and this was more than enough for me to check my work email and respond as necessary. We loved the fact that our daughter wasn't on her Ipad or switch at all. A couple of notes: 1. Best bet on pricing is to call. The pricing page on the website is confusing. Keep in mind that everything is included in that price. Although, you should tip the staff at the end, they really do go above and beyond. 2. Bring alcohol. The Ranch doesn't provide it, but you can bring your own and share at the cocktail hour. This is a great way to meet people. We were blessed with a great selection of other guests while we were there and you wind up spending a decent amount of time with them during the activities and the riding (particularly the kids). If I had to guess, there are maybe a total of 10-14 rooms, so its just the right amount of people to keep it fun without being a crowd. 3. We sprang for the upgraded room and the view alone is worth it, plus it's nice to have a fridge. That said, the other guests who didn't do so seemed perfectly happy. If you have the money, I would recommend doing it. 4. Definitely book your stay such that you can do the hay ride and BBQ. It was fantastic. I know that this review sounds hokey, but I can't possibly express what an amazing and fulfilling time we had at the Ranch. We will be back!

Spent 5 days here in June 2018 and will book again for 2019. Great place for a family vacation especially with kids 8 to 14 something to keep them busy all the time and they have a kids program to give you some free time to relax. The rooms are updated rustic ranch bungalows with plenty of beds for family to share. All meals are provided with a modified buffet/family table style at regular times. Riding is up to twice daily with something for all levels of riders. The scenery is truly spectacular and the Rankin family welcomes and cares for people with a personal touch. The road to the ranch is long and winding with a lot of views. The only thing I missed that week is not having a small fridge in room for drinks (took my cooler but ice is not available without driving) suppose they want to discourage food in rooms. No junk food available and cell phones only work in spots up the road so be prepared to rest and relax.
