Just returned from a stay in the Ugadale cottages with our boys and our two dogs. We had such a relaxing time in this special area of the world. Loved the drive up too, it’s so pretty. The hotel is a stones throw from the beach, and is a really cosy, comfortable base for a relaxing few days away to recharge. We all absolutely loved the beach. Thank you to the helpful reception team for extending our stay by an extra night because we wanted to stay longer, and for letting us have the cottage a little bit longer so we could enjoy one last walk on the beach. Thank you to Andrew for looking after us in the clubhouse and for organising with the kitchen to make some food for our fur babies when we extended our stay. We will definitely be back.

Having read the reviews we were looking forward to our 3 night stay. First of all I will say that I do have some sympathy with hoteliers at this very difficult time. The room we were given was excellent however when I'm paying over £200 a night I expect the TV and the Internet to work. The TV had 2 channels BBC1 & 2. Not that we intended to stay in and watch TV but it's nice in morning and last thing at night to have a choice. The breakfast on Day 1 was reasonable although the choice of cereal was diabolical, On day 2 I happened to notice a bowl of Alpen, wasn't mentioned on Day 1. Day 2 Breakfast, I think the toast came out of the fridge it was so cold. The breakfast tea was accurately described by a fellow diner as Builders Tea with a kick and served out of a steel jug! Strangely the Ugadale Restaurant and Bar was closed but the sister hotel The Royal had it's restaurant open but no accommodation. The pub next door to the hotel was open and I think the chef from the hotel was working there. Why couldn't they provide a service in the hotel, just bizarre. Even just have the bar open it can't be that difficult. If like us you want to visit the 2 fabulous golf courses you are rather stuck for accommodation in Machrahanish. My advise would be find somewhere in Cambletown it's got to be better value for money.

We visited here fir 3 nights from 9th September. Upon entering the Hotel, the reception area was small with a few settees and chairs. Check in was quick and we were soon on our way to our room level 2. Upon entering we found the room, although clean, was very dated, not quite what we would expect of a 4 star Establishment. The bed has definitely “roll together”. OK if your on Honeymoon! Several of the toiletries were opened which was questionable, especially due to Covid 19. On the 1st and 3rd night we booked dinner in the next door Clubhouse - well. What a disappointment! The majority of food was frozen and quite tasteless, a very limited menu - not what we had seen on the Hotel website. Breakfast was OK although on the first morning my Husband asked for corn flakes and was advised they were finished. I asked for marmalade to accompany my cold toast as was informed again, sorry finished. This was our first visit to the Ugadale, and unfortunately will be our last, I have to say the staff were all excellent Moirajane

Decor In main hotel is dated and rather gloomy. The restaurant and bar were not open, presumably due to staffing issues with Covid 19, so nowhere to sit apart from the Foyer and our bedroom. The only food available other than breakfast, was in the Pub. The menu was limited and the same for lunch and dinner. No daily specials on offer. Large portions, several burgers, frozen breaded scampi, battered fish & chips. Fine for for hungry golfing males, but not what for we were hoping for as a couple on a golfing break. Our bedroom was disappointing, overlooking a car park at the back of the hotel and directly above a noisy extractor fan. In spite of the hotel not being fully occupied, when we requested a room change we were told this was not possible. Breakfast was served in the main hotel and was excellent as was the service. A slight concern over the non essential items in the bathroom which could have been handled by previous occupants. Also lack of hand sanitiser stations throughout, ie lift entry points. Loved the golf courses.

Very clean, plush and spacious hotel. Only downside was having to eat in pub next door due to Covid restrictions meaning demand for tables was high . Food however was good , breakfast excellent . Golf at Machrihanish dunes was great .
