I rated the hotel as "average" because there are five star aspects....and one star ones. Those who want a swish hotel should stay elsewhere. Those who relish being in a Julia Morgan "castle" in the heart of Berkeley will love it. As the website says, the rooms are "modest". I stayed in two different rooms; the queen one was nice,... We recently stayed at the Berkeley City Club along with other members of a wedding party. I was very impressed. The BCC is within easy walking distance of the UC campus as well as restaurants and shops in the Telegraph Ave area. The look and feel is classic elegance. While the regular rooms are a bit small, the views are... More

Yes, it's a hotel. But it's really more of a state of mind. And it's clearly old - but in a Tony Bennett kind of way. In fact, that's the point. The room I stayed in was comfortable, but not impressive. There was no television, but the view toward the Golden Gate Bridge is spectacular. The windows open - all... More

This is a beautiful old hotel with amazing public spaces. Has nice outdoor courtyard and rooftop space. Great location close to campus and within easy walking distance to restaurants and shops. Rooms have painted concrete floors with nice oriental style rugs. Bed was very comfortable, room and bathroom very clean. Bathrooms are original tile and fixtures but kept up. There... More

Will not be returning. Hotel far from downtown, room had no AC and it was hot when I stayed. Had to keep windows open which made it hard to sleep with all the outside noise now I know why they provided ear plugs by the night stand. Sink had two separate faucets one for cold and the other hot made... More

My daughter and I spent a lovely night here prior to visiting UC Berkeley. Quaint, historic hotel. We stayed in a room with a double and a twin which was perfect for us. A generous, complimentary breakfast was included in our rate!

This hotel is historic and has interesting architecture. It is also well-located for access to UC. However, my room was rather sparse; did not have internet; and had no air conditioning. This latter omission was particularly significant during my stay as there was a substantial construction project next to the hotel that required (owing to dust from the project) that... More

The hotel is beautiful architecturally and has that old-school charm from the decor to the hotel staff. There is no t.v. in the room, but they do have a tv room. The room was super clean, but the bathroom was ancient. The hot water did not last very long so don't plan on taking a long shower. Staff was wonderful... More

We took my step daughter on college tours last year and stayed here. We had adjacent, top floor corner suites. Her room faced the beautiful Berkeley hills and connected to a large terrace. The distant view from our room, was the golden gate bridge. Designed by Judith Morgan (architect of Hearst Castle), the hotel is gorgeous. Staff was great. Breakfast... More

Spent four nights here with my wife a few days ago. The room was small, but very pleasant. Bed was comfortable. Staff were very nice and helpful. This is a historic building, so don't expect everything to be super modern. There are no TVs in the room. Wi Fi works on the first two floors and at hot spots by... More
