We needed a place with parking and within easy walking distance of campus. After looking at the available options, we decided to try this and were glad that we did. It has a wonderful old-world ambience, but at the same time the rooms are comfortable (good beds, hot water, lots of towels, good reading lights, decent WiFi) and some have... More

Stayed here over a weekend and really enjoyed checking out the building's architecture and interior details all built by Julia Morgan back in the thirties. Restaurant on site which serves nice dinners with reservations and breakfast for hotel guests. A unique hotel. Great pool too.

The rooms are basically old school dorm rooms but the location, pool, restaurant make this spot special. Sadly, UCB chose to make a huuge project westward erasing the brilliant view of the bay. I recommend!

Designed by the famed architect Julia Morgan, this beautiful old hotel dates from the early 1930's. Be sure to walk around the interior and the grounds and see the pool; you'll think you're in a Cambridge or Oxford College. The architecture is stunning, with pointed arches and windows that look like they were put there in 1500. Instead they were... More

My most popular review ever on TripAdvisor was my "Night in a Museum" for the BCC. It remains heartfelt: this is the most impressive hotel property ever! But a recent four night stay says "Never again." What's changed? Nothing really, except the reality that a prolonged stay points up the limitations. To put a fine point on it this is... More

Temperature in the 80's during the day and mid 60's at night and no air conditioning. With the the windows open you can here the college kids partying. One full size bed and one single bed in the room. No desk, no TV. Everything neat and clean. Walk up steps with luggage for check in. No place to park for... More

I stayed here recently on a work visit to Berkeley. The rooms were old fashioned - a blast from the past, the bed though was so comfortable. The dinner options were good but breakfast a little lacking in options. The staff were friendly but didn't seem to know the area well or offer advise to those of us who are... More

I stayed here for 3 nights. Room was on the 6th floor with a nice view uphill and toward campus. The hotel is in a beautiful old building. No TV in rooms, which is probably the best feature! I was always intrigued by this property, the historic nature of the hotel, the architectural pedigree, etc. The photos I saw of the public rooms looked amazing. But staying here is like entering a time machine. Although the public spaces such as the lobby, courtyards and pool area are still beautiful, the rooms look like they have not been touched... More

The Berkeley City Club is a California classic designed by Julia Morgan, the same architect who did the Hearst Castle. It's faux European made of reinforced concrete, with high ceilings and so on. But it's not worth £200 a night, which is what it will set you back. The rooms are small but fine, and the wifi works. But there's... More
