This beautiful building designed by Julia Morgan has maintained it's sense of time and place. The rooms are older but beds are very comfortable and every need is accounted for: mirrors where you want them, heaters for bathroom and room if needed. A sense of quiet decorum in a beautiful spot. Do have coffee in the interior courtyard. Lovely.

Yes the full sized pool is nice, but the hotel is NOISY. Doors and walls between rooms are extremely thin and the hotel books large, noisy parties that make one feel like you re staying next to a fraternity, our room was next to the elevator, noisy and squeaky all night. I had to complain about the WiFi, which was a weak and slow connection repeatedly. Since there is no TV then streaming speed should be available. It was not. Parking is $25.00 per night. The staff member who “welcomed“ us couldn’t stop yawning and could not explain the parking time framework. She was not typical because most staff were extremely kind and helpful. Still, th enlace does not really seem to be trying to make a profit. The Conservancy guarantees its survival weather guests are happy or not. by all means visit, have a drink in the lovely bar, eat at Julia’s Restaurant, tour the place - but go sleep somewhere else!

This historical hotel is comfortable and clean. It is in a great location for walking around Berkeley. It’s a little far from the BART, average of 10 minutes walk, but not terrible. Service at the hotel is friendly but quiet. Water pressure in shower is weak but maybe that’s because they don’t want you using water due to the drought. The door lock is a physical key.

I stay at the property frequently and always enjoy it! The building itself is a classic and elegant in an old world way. From the must use indoor pool to the charming cozy bar it’s truly homey. Do not expect luxury in the rooms, no tv for instance but location, charm and price are all well worth it.

spent two nights at this historic landmark in Berkeley. Great location just steps from the campus and lots of shopping and restaurants. Loved the “small castle” feel. A few aspects might not be everybody’s cup of tea, such as no central heat and air, no TVs in the room, and the restaurant is closed on Sundays and Mondays (right during our stay). But they offer complimentary continental breakfast every morning. The staff is very helpful and friendly.
