This is something different! the moment you walk in you get the feeling of history and tradition.. the hotel is old but well looked after and kept. it gives you the feeling that you are back to university! a low point is that rooms have no telly!!!! Good internet and good continental breakfast

Please be aware that this is a historical place and it's kept in that way: No tv's, no A/c. The place is beautiful, gorgeous but the scent in rooms is too strong, mattress is covered in plastic (like a crib mattress) and worn out, my back is killing me. Not returning here.

First off, this looks like a members club but you don't need to be a member to book and stay here. We were desperately looking for somewhere to stay near the Berkeley campus and everywhere else was ridiculously overpriced. This hotel seemed almost too good to be true - the website showed beautifully furnished rooms, in a wonderful old building,... More

This was my second stay at this hotel, had to come back because I felt like the hotel is a destination in its own right. It feels like a movie set. An oasis that transforms you back to a more leisurely time. The staff was pleasant and helpful. Room was small but thoughtfully restored in 1920s style. Everything was clean... More

The gardens are really pretty and relaxing to sit back and read or just to catch your breath. You feel like you've stepped back decades and are enjoying some luxuries from the past. We enjoyed our stay. There was no TV - didn't miss it. The rooms are small but comfortable.

This hotel bills itself as historic, so I expected historic furnishings, but I didn't expected historic rules . . . like "must wear a bathing cap to use the pool" (no one used the pool) . . . like "quiet hours" that made murmuring (really inaudible) whispers in hall against the (enforced against us) rules. . . it was weird... It's hard to rate this hotel. It is historic, but sometimes it just felt old and dated. My room smelled a little musty when I first arrived, but I left the windows open during my entire stay and that seemed to solve that program. The hotel creaks at night. You can hear the hot water pipes whistle while somebody in... More

Spent only one night at this beautiful historic hotel. There are interior courtyards that are quiet & serene. Several sitting areas in lobby. Coffee/tea bar available in lobby. Rooms were nothing special but the bed was comfortable. Very few rooms with 2 beds but they do offer rollaway beds. Only one electrical outlet that was hard to find. No television... More

We needed a place with parking and within easy walking distance of campus. After looking at the available options, we decided to try this and were glad that we did.
