I normally don't bother writing reviews but I just had to share my experience at this Hotel. I just spent this past weekend with a long time friend that I haven't seen since before Covid. I had booked at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites in Berkeley, CA off University Ave. which is located in a nice safe neighborhood. and about 5min. drive to the marina and Golden Gates Fields. We arrived a little early but the front desk girl, YANNA, whom was very friendly, sweet personality and accommodating, allowed us to check in a little early. The room was very clean and spacious and the beds were very comfortable. The shampoo, cleansing soap was a bigger size than other hotels and we had a mini fridge in our room, not to mention ample parking. My friend and I went to a craft fair there in Berkeley then afterwards we went to a Murder Mystery Dinner. Each time we left, we had no problem finding a parking spot at the hotel. In the morning we were expecting the usual simple breakfast but was very surprised to see all the choices: scrambled eggs, pancakes, pork & turkey sausages plus more choices, the food was very delicious and the place was clean. When we checked out, a different girl, BRIANNA, also a sweet young girl and very friendly, checked us out. She Thanked us for staying at Holiday Inn and she even took a picture of my friend and I for our trip. All I can say is HOLIDAY INN EXPRESS & Suites, in Berkeley, I Rate it an AAA+++ S. LeDeit…
This is my 3rd stay here, to visit with my UC Berkeley student. The room was clean, and the bed was easy to sleep on. The buffet breakfast staff worked very hard to keep things supplied, as the hotel was very busy with families, and a few mornings all the tables were full (but they turn over quickly). There is plenty of free parking, which is a novelty at other hotels. There are lost of restaurants to walk to (Belmo Cafe across the street with huge sandwiches made on croissants, and artisanal treats; the Mission has fantastic Mexican fare that can be eaten on their lovely patio; Califa Greens serves a wide variety of Mexican foods ~ be sure to look at their Instagram for the menu that they update frequently; there is a Spanish Tapas bar on San Pablo that is as elegant as it is delish; there is a bbq place on San Pablo that is fantastic). The hotel staff is helpful with recommendations as well. I've used the hotel's washer & dryer, that at $2 a wash is a bargain compared to the local laundromats, and the room is maintained beautifully! There is 1 person that deserves special recognition: Maribel. She helps out above and beyond, listening to problem solve as well as sincerely wanting to make a customer's stay the best it can be. Thank You, Maribel!!…
The family and I were in town for two nights. Our stay was very comfortable and relaxing. The room had a microwave and refrigerator which is great if you have little kids! They also had free hot breakfast, our kids especially enjoyed the pancakes! The young lady at the front desk gave us some good tips of places to eat in the area. Thanks to the hotel for a good stay!
We recently stayed at the Holiday Inn Express and Suites Berkeley. Accommodations were clean and comfortable. It was convenient to have a small kitchenette with a microwave, mini refrigerator, coffee maker, and sink. Additional amenities included an in-room safe, fitness center, complimentary breakfast, and free parking. The staff were friendly and professional. The hotel is conveniently located on University Avenue west of UC Berkeley which is 2 miles away.
Berkeley doesn't have a ton of lodging options that are nice and affordable. The rooms here are fine - clean and spacious with a fridge and microwave. Pretty decent breakfast every morning too. Free parking. 20 minute walk to downtown and campus. Two blocks from The Mission - a delicious mexican place with outdoor seating that we hit up twice. The best part of the stay though was the customer service. They will probably cringe to see me put this on here, but I had a non-cancellable booking through hotels.com and I ended up wanting to leave early because my son moved into his dorm early. I had two more night on the rez and upon calling hotel.com and being on hold forever and talking to a confused and unhelpful person, I literally walked to the front desk of the Holiday Inn Express with this lady on my phone and the front desk person was soooooooooo awesome. She listened and chimed in and we finally got the hotel.com person to call the holiday inn direct to try to waive the commission fee the HI would have to pay on my two cancelled nights. Well, that didn't work - hotels.com said it was all on us to figure out. So the front desk person assured me she'd write a detailed note to the manager who would be in the next day at 11a. Too late to say long story short, so I'll carry on. Point is, HI did not have to let me out of the last two nights on my stay. But they did. Because they are awesome. They listened to my situation, understood and they took care of me. They just got a loyal customer and with a frosh in college there, I'll be back a lot. The staff today was great too - I'd say there were four different people I dealt with at the front desk over three nights and all were courteous, professional and helpful. The rooms and location are what the are, but when customer service rocks it out like these guys did, its a a five star experience. Thanks HI!…
I’ve stayed at this hotel about 5 times in the past 3 months. The rooms are always clean. They have a washer and dryer for guests. Customer service is great. There’s many restaurants in walking distance. Target in just a few blocks away. The Golden Gate Bridge is close by.
Terrific location for us. Short walk to Enterprise car rental. Assorted great food nearby of almost any culture. We felt safe walking around - not familiar w California laws - no alcohol sold at 7-11, no food at bars, and you can get takeout open carry wine and beer at most restaurants! 🤷♀️ Very serious re COVID masking in the whole town. Shoutout to helpful staff including Yana.
This was our second stay at the Holiday Inn Express Berkeley. We have friends that live in Berkeley and it's very convenient to their home. We only stayed two nights this time but the quality was still very very good. The rooms are clean and the beds are very comfortable. We really like having a kitchenette (mini fridge, sink, microwave & coffee maker). This was the third hotel for us during our West Coast trip (Yosemite, Monterey & Berkeley) so we didn't expect housekeeping due to Covid but they came and made up our room after the first night which was very much appreciated. My husband & I felt a little bad since we left the room a mess since we didn't know anyone was coming. There is usually a hot continental breakfast but due to Covid everything was Grab 'n' Go but you still had plenty of variety.…
We have visited Berkeley regularly for the last 10 years, and this has become our hotel of choice, given the excellent, friendly staff and service; large, clean rooms; and setback from the noises of the Main Street on which it is located. While the cost per night has risen over the years and can seem exorbitant for a Holiday Inn Express, it reflects the price of hotels in the Bay Area, and varies with the seasons, rising when the city is busier. This hotel remains the best value we have found for this room level because parking and breakfast are included. I was surprised to see the comments on the neighborhood. While sadly there is worsening homelessness everywhere in the Bay Area, including Berkeley, particularly downtown and along the highways, we have never encountered a problem around the hotel, including on our current visit, so I was surprised to see so many reviews mention it. I was also surprised to see someone mention difficulty getting dairy-free milk alternatives, as I use them here regularly. However, the coffee, which used to be excellent, could be better. …
We stayed there a week ago because of the power cut in Marin County. They charged us twice the rate they are advertising now. The current rate was advertised before the power cut, but I was waiting for proof so that I can report them.
