We had a reservation for 2/13/2010, guaranteed with our credit card. We called the day before our arrival to say we would not be checking in until 9-10 p.m. "No problem" we were told. Wrong. We arrived to be told they had overbooked and only had a smoking room available. Very smelly. GB sent us to Capri for a non-smoking...

My wife & I spent 8 nights here while visiting our daughter's family in El Cerrito. We were attracted by the price and the close location to our daughters home. It's an old style motel. It is conveniently located with access to public transportation. The rooms and grounds are clean and the staff friendly and attentive. However, there is no...

I stayed here to attend a family party in Berkeley. My family had five rooms for three nights. We chose this hotel because it was inexpensive and the location was good for where I was going. Unfortunately, the walls are so thin that I could hear my neighbors even when they talked in normal voices. Heard them using the restroom,...

Thanks for your comments regarding the thin walls. A good night's sleep is something we aim to provide and I apologize that this was not the case here. Having an establishment built in 1946, there can be some things that we will address to make for a more enjoyable experience. Thanks again for the input.

The Golden Bear is a well-preserved '50s-era motel with simple, well-maintained, spacious rooms. I was surprised to find a mini-refrigerator and a microwave, which would have been great had I stayed longer. The location is convenient to several city bus lines, and there's a nice coffee shop right across the street. My room was clean and everything worked just fine,...

If you want cheap, this is your place. It's run down, everything needs to be replaced- its either broken, stained, lumpy, cracked, chipped, warped, musty and just plain discusting. I stayed one night and that was all I could have handled. There was a big group of us staying there for my brothers wedding, and one room had a crack...

This is located in a cute, multi-cultural, hippie part of town. Lots of great little restaurants and shops nearby. We came just for a cheap place to stay while we visited San Francisco, and it was much better than we expected. The staff were very nice, and the architecture looked like an old, Spanish courtyard. Of course the rooms were...
