I needed a quick place to stay for the night as I rented my home as an Airbnb. Clean, quiet and great location. $79 in Berkeley? Crazy cheap for this area. If you are just stopping through, I highly recommend for a good nights sleep.
Noisy rooms from the facing road, the nearby train track and the mal functioning fridge. Bathroom was clean but the carpet of the room was dirty and threadbare. The blankets were thin but the room was warm. Good point: proximity to Casa Latina - great Mexican restaurant.
I had an extended time at this property in 2015 and wasn't all that impressed. Since then, it has undergone a renovation and has improved, but they haven't fixed the biggest problem of all that makes staying here pretty dismal: NOISE! The property is very old, but it has had a face lift. Many rooms now have laminated floors, but some still have very old, very worn, threadbare, torn carpets. The furniture has been replaced and is in better shape and there's seating in each room as well as a desk, cabinet, drawers and hanging space. Rooms are surprisingly large for the type of property. The noise from room to room and from outside makes staying here really tough. Why there are walls at all is something of a mystery as they are so thin, they may as well be drapes or indeed, the entire property could be just one huge dorm. You will hear every sneeze, cough, fart, scratch and every conversation. That's not all. Every action in the bathroom or bedroom will be played out in your ear. Quite why they don't fix this is a mystery. Also noise from the parking lot is incessant. Vehicles come and go throughout the night and day, many of which seem to be parked here for local businesses and as they leave at 5AM, the revving engines and the incessant reversing noises will wake you daily. As it's a no smoking hotel, many guests stand on the communal veranda to smoke, talking, using their phones and adding to the further noise issues. The beds are comfortable if a bit hard and the linens reasonably clean. There is daily house keeping and they do a reasonable job. There's free WIFI which is very reliable and a flat screen TV. Coffee maker, microwave and fridge are all provided and there's free tea and coffee in the check in room, where there's also a computer and printer free for use. The rates reflect the run down nature of this basic hotel, but wherever you stay and whatever you pay, privacy and noise should be considerations and this is the biggest let down for this motel.…
This was a good choice for us. A nice area and easy to navigate. Plus parking space, a plus in the city :). The room was nice, hard wood floors, clean and comfortable. We had a fist floor room which was nice with my children. The room had a fan, nice touch for warm night. Close to amenities of the city and Mountain Mikes pizza right there on the corner. Close to highway for easy on and off navigation. Will stay here again.
I stayed in this hotel for three nights and did not experience any problems including the safety of my family. I have a room which is fully renovated, nice and very clean. no complains at all. the staff were very friendly and courteous. it will be kind of noisy at night because its beside a busy road - san Pablo avenue, so what did you expect from this. I will be staying here again.
