The building is architecturally interesting but looks better online than in fact. The room was small and spartan with screenless windows that opened onto the adjacent small parking lot and a Brutalist style concrete lecture hall (Woo Hon Fai Hall). This structure, unfortunately, has become the focus of skateboarders who use it at all hours. I was awakened at numerous... More

Our most recent stay at the Bancroft was to attend a concert at Cal. The Bancroft is literally across the street from campus, next door to the very popular Strada Cafe, and within a couple of blocks to restaurants and shops. There is an adjacent hotel parking lot (extra fee) and bus stop across the street. The hotel is in... More

Folks - this is an old hotel. Given this before you decide to stay here, please realize bathrooms and the bathroom sinks may be small, rooms may be small, but they are nicely decorated. Room 302 has great view, very comfy bed. Service seemed fine, but we were there for a Paul Simon concert and Bancroft had best location for... More

I stayed here recently on a business trip. The staff are wonderful and accommodating, though there was a miscommunication on my late check-out - I asked for as late as possible, but 15 minutes after the normal check-out I got a knock on the door asking if I wanted to leave. Apparently a note about late check-out wasn't in their... More

One of the best aspects of Bancroft Hotel is the location. About a block and a half away from UC Berkeley's campus, the hotel is also next door to Cafe Stradda and perhaps 100 feet from FreeHouse, where you can order a craft beer, burger or fresh kale salad. When I checked in at Bancroft Hotel, I was happy to... More

I had a child graduate from UC Berkeley, and we were there again recently for another look with my youngest. I have stayed at several Berkeley properties, from the value chains on University to the pricey older hotels near campus. I stumbled on Bancroft Inn this time. I believe it is a bit harder to discover because it doesn't typically... More

This hotel is in serious need of a makeover. The rooms are old, dated, and worn. The bathroom is tiny and old. Avoid Room 201 unless you enjoy being awakened at 5 am by the person setting up breakfast in the nearby room without any consideration of the noise he/she is making. However, you will have to haul your luggage... More

This hotel looks lovely from the outside and is in a great location. It is a former girl's dormitory and has a very historic feel, which is charming. You should be prepared for a minimalist experience though -- nothing on the walls, no cups for water or anything (but you can ask for them and they will bring you a... More

The hotel is extremely convenient, on campus , clean and the staff are very friendly. However the rooms are a bit small and quite stuffy. When you open the windows it is too loud. The walls are not very sound proof either. The breakfast was pretty disappointing for the price and quality of the hotel, really not more than what... More

This was my second time staying in the hotel, this time dropping our son off at college. This is a very quaint little hotel, in perfect location. You are right across the street from the university, a block away from the dorms, and pleasant walk to all the hang out places and eateries. The rooms are on the small side,... More
