Went with my wife for 6 days, just getting back... Loved the place, lot's of fun! It's family friendly but didn't see many kids and the ones we did were well behaved. Food was good, only complaint is the Asian restaurant is a buffet not a site down place. Always great shows at night and they have a really good and large pool with lot's of activities. The staff was tip top! We spent a lot of time with "Avatar", certainly a great worker and wonderful person but they all were pretty amazing and seemed into their jobs rather than some places where they just go through the motions... Planning to go again!

I arrived at hotel and a very friendly staff checked me in. The room is very big ,clean.

Fridge is full with soft drinks and beers also you have a bottle of GLN, Brandy, Whisky and an another bottle of RUM.

I had call from reception staff after 45 min I arrived the room to make sure that I am happy with my room.

Me and my partner have booked to come to this resort with TUI the end of Jan. We were given the brochure of trips and prices 3 weeks ago and were told to come in at any time and that we would be provided with 5% discount in store in our local branch. We went in this weekend to book and the trip prices had skyrocketed. We were looking to have 4 trips with TUI coming up to around £300 each. However when booking the travel consultant didn't mention that some trips add on transfer tax and took one trip from £11pp to £46pp due to the drive. This really frustrated us, every trip was put up by £25-£50 each meaning that we were expected to pay an extra £150-£170pp roughly. The travel consultants tried their best in store and were as helpful as they could be and mentioned that the dollar was low and that is why TUI were having to charge more. But frankly a trip that is £1600pp each alongside the original £300 seems overly reasonable to be paying for a two week break. Especially when you have the likes of Groupon, Wowcher, AirBNB and other travel providers that don't sting with extra costs randomly for no valid reasons. In turn we have had to rethink our plans for Jamaica and what we are looking at in regards to trips. Most people can only afford 1 luxury holiday a year and it's a shame to see TUI who are meant to be a reputable and established company biting for customers last pennies. I feel sad for the staff at this hotel the customers and the travel consultants that work for this brand in this region as all of us miss out. I'm disappointed that we will now have to choose between trips because they are unreasonable prices and we will be looking with other providers. Needless to say after one to many bad experiences with TUI we will not be using them again anytime in the near future. Let's hope the holiday is pleasant and that we don't get charged for air whilst there, might have to get a credit card out. So please ladies and gents bear in mind that when booking with this hotel if you are going with adults (kids over 12) or a partner save up half your monthly's to see a sunset because you'll need it.

Just got back after 2 weeks at Riu Montego Bay, think it was our 10th stay there.We love Riu been to lots in different countries you know what to expect.Lots of changes goin on in the hotel but I do think its time for a refurb.

We arrived in Montego Bay around 10:30 am, we were met by the shuttle we had ordered. He took us directly to the Resort. Of course our room was not ready, they had us just leave out bags in the main lobby (which I was not crazy about), gave us our bracelets so that we could go and eat.
There was no real organization to them notifying us when our room was “ready”. I had to keep checking and finally around 2:45 I was able to get our room key. That is what it is. A “KEY” and they only give you one, you have to sign for the second one.
We made our way to our room, taking our own luggage. (By then the lobby was quite full with people patiently waiting to get into their rooms).
The room was nice. We were on the top floor of building “2” overlooking the ocean. It was clean. One of the drawers on the nightstand was broken. I let them know that when they called to check to see if everything was ok. Just so I would not get charged for damaging it. They told me someone would be by to check it out, no one ever came by.
During our stay our toilet seat broke. I contacted the front desk (yes that was an interesting phone call). They said they would be sending someone. That toilet seat never got fixed during our stay. Again, no one ever showed up.
The grounds had several Cats/Kittens. My husband and I are both cat lovers. These cats were amazing, they were friendly, not aggressive or mean. I was standing on my balcony looking down. There was a guy from Housekeeping with his Linen cart standing below, I saw one of the kittens just playing minding its own business when all of the sudden this worker picks up this huge rock and throws it at the kitten. “I CAME UNGLUED”. To me that is not acceptable. He is an employee of the resort. Watching him do that only showed me he has done this before. I ran down “4” flights of stairs, he had gone into the building next to us (Building 5), I located his cart and he was hiding behind it, I asked him why he did that to the cat, he wouldn’t answer, I asked him his name, he wouldn’t answer. I told him fine, I’m going to the front desk right now and I will find out who he is. So I did, I went to the front desk, I told them If this is how they let their employees treat the cats around here, then this is not the place for me. They said “oh no, this is not acceptable. They were contacting the housekeeping manager immediately. I don’t know if anything happened to him or not. But that was really upsetting to see. These cats keep all the vermin away.
The grounds were nice, the pool with the swim up bar was awesome. Although, they do close this area too early, saying that they need to treat the pool, but when you go to the pool first thing in the morning, you still see the oily sheen on the top from all the suntan oils/lotions that people wear on their bodies.
The shows were pretty good. That is really the only thing to do in the evening, there is the disco which I never made it too. There is a casino which is probably the worst casino I have ever been to in my life. MY RECOMMENDATION: Walk or get a ride across the street to the shopping mall on the left side directly across the street from the resort. It has a casino on the 2nd floor, which was much nicer.
I thought the casino at the resort was open 24hrs. Well it is, but there is not someone at the cashier window for the 24hrs. Our last night there, I had $130.00 on my gambling card. I went back to the room to finish packing, fell asleep (when I really wanted to go to the casino and cash in my card). Our flight left early the next day so we had to be down at the entrance at 6:45 am. I Found out around 4:30 am that I could not get the money off of my card, and would not be able to until 10:00 am that morning. . The front desk basically just told me there was nothing they could do. The guy at the bar next to the casino says to me, “go in try your luck”, I said “why” If I win more money you’re not going to give it to me. I received a business card from the front desk with a phone number to contact regarding this problem, the guy that checked us out said he was writing a report. Since we have been home I have made several attempts to reach that number, and no one answers the phones or returns my voicemails.. So the hotels casino got off with $130.00 of my money. It is very disappointing that the hotel does not have some sort of resolution to this type of problem, I am sure I am not the first one that has done this.
We did a couple excursions. We did the Zip lining, Bobsledding and sky lift with MYSTIC, the second day we did the ½ day excursion, floating down the river in an inner tube that was through CHUKKA. Both tours were amazing, the transportation “to” the excursion was great, but when it was time to go back to the resort we were left hanging for quite some time.
The first tour, with Mystic, the bus was supposed to pick us up at 4:30 pm, they did not arrive to pick us up until almost 5:30 pm (we were still an hour and half away from the resort). The second excursion was supposed to be a ½ day. They mixed us with a “full day” group. When it was time for us to go back to the resort, there was no one to take us back. We waited for “2-1/2” hours before we were picked up to be taken back to the resort.
The food was pretty good.
One last thing. You are literally pretty close to the airport. Airplanes fly over the resort 30-40 times a day and it is quite noisy as they are directly above.

The only walking would be on the site or across the main road to all the shops, two supermarkets, etc. There are many tours and day trips. Also you can go down to Margaritaville and walk up and down the Hip Strip. They have... More

There are plenty of trips from the hotels to some very beautiful resorts..but It is not advisable to go wandering about the immediate local area especialy after dark. Outside the Riu is a taxi rank. If you get a good local... More
