I recently went on a group dive trip that included 3 nights at Murex Bangka Resort. The accommodations were very nice, although we only had air conditioning from 5:00 pm through 5:00 am. Not a big deal since we were mostly out diving during the day. The food was quite good (and plentiful), and the staff were very pleasant and helpful. If requested, a fresh cup of coffee was delivered to your porch every morning! The dive operation was excellent, with everything being taken care of for you, including having your gear ready on the boat for you and rinsing everything when you returned. Overall a great trip!
Direct access to a gradually sloping reef, which is continuous with the house reef of the neighbouring resort and truly massive. We stayed for twelve days and did not see enough of it. There are paddleboards that can be used for longer excursions, to see the mangroves, or in case of an unfavorable current. Should you want even more options there are boat excursions for snorkelers available every morning and afternoon. The house reef has a fabulous variety of healthy hard and soft corals, sponges and carpets of anemones, interspersed with sandy patches. I was really impressed with hos many different critters we could find in depths of just 0-3 meters. Apart from the usual suspects we found seven different nudibranchs, several peacock mantis shrimp, snowflake and zebra morays, banded and saddled sea snakes, scorpionfish, stonefish, every variety of puffer and anemonefish, lots of funny looking boxfish, schools of squid, catfish, yellowtail barracuda and long jawed mackerel. Ask the guides where the ribbon eel and broadclub cuttlefish hang out so you don't miss them! Att night we found lots of decorator crabs and the blue spotted stingrays were too numerous to count, hunting in the sand all the way up to the waters edge. Photos attached are taken with cheap old compact cameras and natural sunlight only. The resort itself is already described by others so I will not go into that. Suffice to say that it is a very generous resort in every way. Food, smiles and songs abound! (Ask for the deep fried cassava sprinkled with sugar!) The staff were especially generous with the time and effort that they kept putting into making this a great adventure.…
We found Banka to have comfortable rooms with open air bathrooms. The only negative was there was no power to the A/C in the room during the day and the fan was blocked by the bed cover so for the odd time we didn’t dive the room was hot but the wonderfully friendly staff more than compensated for any discomfort. I really like the convenience of the camera room, the close proximity to the dive sites, the helpful dive staff, and beautiful sandy beach!! You will be greeted regularly by Elizabeth and Jeanie who go out of their way to make you feel at home.
We just returned from a wondering diving trip at Murex Bangka Dive Resort. The diving experience was great. We saw different types of octopus and Cuddle fish more on this trip than any other diving place. Our dive guide, Justin, was terrific. He was instrumental in providing us a wonderful, fun diving experience. He actually found a very small blue ring octopus. In addition the food each day was fantastic. I agree with all the other reviews that the staff at this resort was more like family. We strongly recommend Murex Bangka Resort.
This resort is a great dive location. The food is plentiful and varied. The dive boats are well equipped. Most of the guides are very good, one or two seem bored with their job or less than enthusiastic. The camera room is adequate. Mike, the dive centre manager is concerned about client safety and satisfaction. Elizabeth, the dining room manager is eager to please. The rooms are either beach front or up a fairly steep hill.
