For the most part, my family (two adults, one 6-yo) had a nice vacation at the Nickelodeon Punta Cana resort. We were upgraded at check-in to a room with a pool on the balcony, which proved to be the highlight of our trip. I would definitely do that again; it was so nice to be able to wake up and swim immediately or take a dip before bedtime. My child loved AquaNick; I think he was the perfect age for it. It isn't great for kids much older, though I believe they are expanding it to provide more options for older kids and adults. But for a 6yo, it was entertaining enough to spend each morning/early afternoon there very happily. Two waiters at AquaNick, Felix and Jose, provided exceptional service. The buffet at Sugarcane was consistently decent (none of the food is *great*), particularly for breakfast, and our regular waiter Ambronix was a highlight of all our days at the resort. What a wonderful person, and he was great with our child as well. Doppio, the coffee bar, is terrific. We stopped by often for iced coffees, ice cream, or just an AC break. Verdello, the Italian place, is good enough, and our experience at the Spacewalker was also good. Now for the cons. Our minibar was never refreshed, despite us asking several times. Our safe in the room was broken and required several trips by security to open it for us. Housecleaning never came the last day of our stay (when there was a storm that forced us to stay indoors most of the day, limiting our time out of the space for cleaners to come in. We called, they said they would come while we were at dinner but did not.) We had a terrible experience at the Wok Wok restaurant. Our table was completely neglected, and one of us never got any food at all. They brought us the wrong food twice, then disappeared for long stretches of time. We ended up leaving without eating anything. I could forgive any of this - every hotel and restaurant has off times, and none of this is anything I haven't dealt with before. It didn't wreck our trip. What almost did wreck our trip, however, was being forced by our concierge, Jorge, to sit through a timeshare presentation (there is no other word for it; they will call it some kind of premium travel service, but it's a timeshare presentation). We refused to go, then Jorge told us that it was the only way for some staff to make extra money, so we felt badly and went. And it was an absolutely awful way to spend our last day. We were guilt-tripped by the salesman Isaiah over not wanting to buy into what they were selling, and I was criticized for "being emotional" when I said I wanted to leave and not spend any more of my vacation listening to a sales job. If this is standard operating procedure here, beware - it's awful. The concierge thing appears to be a thinly veiled way of scamming you into going to this presentation and that needs to change, stat. …
