I stayed for two nights in La Plazuela in August. Popayan is crying out for a high quality boutique hotel. It simply doesn't have one as far as I could tell. The atmosphere is more of a student town with very few visitors. As a modest accommodation offering, La Plazuela is centrally located, with some vestiges of the colonial white washed architecture found around the city. It's a little old fashioned snd smells of furniture polish, which reminded me of long vanished hotels from my youth. There is a promising courtyard with high arches and greenery. The rooms are clean and most have recently renovated bathrooms. Ask to see a few rooms. I had a very bright and tiny room at the back that overlooked an orange tree. This had to be changed as there was an ongoing burglar alarm honking from a neighbouring property. My new room opened up onto the interior courtyard and was very dark, with almost no natural light. Breakfast is a meagre offering by Colombian standards. I was hungry again by 10am! Overall a functional place for a few nights. An old fashioned ambience. There is potential for something better to arise from the basic bones.

I guess this might be the only place to stay in Popayan- though there’s not much to see here and we were just breaking the journey. It looks promising with two large courtyards but our ground floor room was more Like a cell with a large bed, white walls and one dark picture. And a courtyard opening window that need curtains or everyone could look in, adding to the darkness. The bathroom however was modern and good. Tried to get a beer from the restaurant. No dice. Getting a drink in Popayan is actually very difficult as it seems to be full of cafes and not much else. Even dinner is hard work. The breakfast was perfunctory and soulless. In fact the whole place was impersonal and disappointing. A one night if you must kind of place

We stayed there at Christmas, and, based on TA reviews, were quite disappointed. How it can have such a high ranking compared to our experience is surprising (unless all hotels in Popayán are awful). The room was clean, the furnishing minimal, and the bed just ok. In this hotel, it seems difficult to get a quiet room. A lot of them face one of the busiest street in Popayán (and sometimes also the church), and a lot of the remaining face the inside patio, where there are often people speaking very loudly while sipping a drink. The breakfast didn’t save the room (in fact, after receiving it, we left to get a decent one in town).

This is supposedly one of the best places in town. Service at the front desk was spotty + lax at best. Breakfast was not very good at all. Room was ok .. nothing special. In general service was sorely lacking + for the rate they charged I feel like the entire experience should have been much better. This was one of our first stops in Colombia ... luckily from here on things got a lot better as we headed toward Cartagena .. hotels improved, food improved + service definitely improved.

Hotel La Plazuela is a comfortable establishment located at the centre of Popayán. Make sure to get a room well away from the street. The traffic fumes in the streets of Popayan are terrible. The hotel offers 27 rooms around two patios. Staffs are friendly. Free parking nearby and free Wi-Fi Internet. We had a spacious high ceiling room with a good double bed, wardrobe, chair & table, a flat screen TV, and a separate spacious bathroom with double washbasin, shower & toilet. All was very clean. The window can be opened into the patio and have stanchions. No coffee & tea making facility in the room. The buffet breakfast is meagre. We recommend La Plazuela to anyone who seeks a reasonably quiet night’s sleep in noisy town where in the street you have to face high levels of traffic pollution.

Hotel room was large and included a small balcony overlooking a church across the street and with sight lines to the main square. One block / one minute walk to main square. Large, clean, and comfortable room and bedding (enough for 3 people). Spotty wifi, stingy with water and toiletries. Good shower in a small bathroom. Should provide a bottle of water per person per day. Decent breakfast (fruit and scrambled eggs, juice, and coffee or tea) but could not get coffee refills on first morning and did not get our fruit the second morning.

This is a review of the restaurant at this hotel and not of the hotel itself.I dined here on a number of occasions during the two days I spent in Popayan last May-2019.I was impressed by the staff who were friendly and helpful...This is a good place for breakfast and is also a great place for a quick bite as a break from sight-seeing...There was a wide selection of cakes on offer...Worth a return visit...prices were very reasonable...I am happy to give it 9 out of 10.

The hotel is very central and close to some pretty good restaurants. The rooms are adequately sized and clean and comfortable. Our only window opened onto a corridor within the hotel so not overly private. In house restaurant ok, breakfast at the lower end.

I was enchanted when I entered my room. I got a double one facing the street. I got double glass so once the second window closed I hardly could hear anything from outside. My room but also all premises of the hotel were spotless. The staff everywhere were super helpful when they could. I managed to really relax and I was looking forward to my room after a hike in the Puracé National Parc or a day wandering around the city.

The property offers quiet modern accommodation with on-site dining through an attached coffee lounge. The lounge operates for all meals. Facilities in the room are excellent and the sleep quality was very good. The property is centrally located and is an easy walk to the centre of Popayan.
