The very kind and helpful staff of the Ben Loyal hotel helped me find a room at the Craggan Hotel when there was literally not another room to be found in the whole of Scotland. 31 pages of Booking.com sold out!! Interestingly Kate has decided not to go on Booking.com this year as she only has four rooms and can... More

Excellent small Hotel in lovely location overlooking the sea and the outlying islands. Great menu with local seafood, dived for in the bay every day, Lobster by prior order. good wine list and extensive range of single malts. Most welcoming and friendly bar for a dram after dinner and a chat to the local residents. Rooms are not ensuite but... More

We were attracted by the professional signs posted along the main road. The exterior didn't look like a hotel (it was proprietor Kate McKay's family home) but the rooms, though basic, were bright and comfortably cosy. No ensuites but the shared bathroom was huge and clean. Free parking. There is a magical little beach accessible via a short walk through... More

Today called into Melness as we were taking our German family member around the north coast, dropped into the Craggan and decided to have the Cullen Skink, something Sandra had never had "Delicious" she says and I fully agreed,,

My husband, our friend and I were on a road trip on the north coast 500. We were travelling from east to west so on our way down to Aultbea we stopped for lunch at this really nice hotel for lunch. Delicious food especially good since it serves food all day and we were there much later than lunch time!... More

Stop here for lunch with the Moray Coast Motorcycle Club for a pre booked Sunday Carvery. Lovely little place, very warm and friendly welcome. Food was excellent, not a morsel left on any of the 20 plates. Desserts went down a treat. Not the cheapest place we've been, but worth the little extra for the service and quality we received.... Serving food at 2.30 in the afternoon when everywhere else had closed. We probably wouldn't have food this place if the Tongue hotel had been open and serving but thankfully it was neither open nor serving food. Friendly welcome, lovely Sunday beef from the carvery and a good selection of wines on the menu. All in all a great pub/hotel... More

Pretty disappointing lunch, average food which is overpriced for what it is, I would have liked to see a bit more variety on the menu. The staff member had to be asked for a glass for my husbands drink, then asked again for a slice of lemon for mine, which she promptly brought across to me in her fingers! Real... More

I am very disappointed that you had to experience this since I work 24/7 to make the place a success, would you be good enough to tell me what day this was, could it of been last Thursday, when I was away.? Kindest regards Kate. More

So this is a strange one. We arrived late at night after a 500+ mile drive from Sheffield. At first glance I wasn't impressed, the hotel just looks like an abandoned building from the outside, when you go inside things don't get much better, the hotel interior is quite dated and at first glance isn't anything special. We were asked... More

We had occasion to seek out a place to lay our heads when work called me to the Far North of Sutherland in the Highlands of Scotland. We chose to stay at The Craggan - a bijou hotel across the causeway to the north of Tongue. A remote location but one with stunningly beautiful scenery. Kate, our hostess at The... More
