Given that Sutherland has two people per square kilometre as opposed to 413 people per sq km in England and 68 in Scotland as a whole it's probably not surprising that the Michelin gurus have sought to find somewhere to accolade on the North Coast 500. Frankly, they shouldn't have bothered. The Albannach is tired - to whit, a Scotland... More

What a superb place to stay. We stayed in the Byre suite, with its own outside hot tub. We even see a few deer at the back which was nice. Staff we really nice, we got offered tea and coffee when we arrived. It was brought to outer room with 2 slices of lovely homemade cake. (Was spot on!). Bed... More

Context: we have eaten in many Michelin starred restaurants and stayed in all manner of hotels. This is not really a hotel. It is either a restaurant with rooms or B&B with fine dining. Quirky experience but probably worth doing (on balance) for one night. Food is pretty/very good. I struggle however to see how they get a star but... More

This michelin starred restaurant is a very classic, everything in order, honest, nice restaurant. It is however slightly old fashioned, in its menu as well as in its decor. But that's also just what the owners want it to be and that is great. If you want a very nice dinner in an nice, classic environment in a village where... More

We 1st drove up from Inverness to eat at The Albannach in 2011 in October. This visit to stay for a couple of nights in June was considerably easier. We stayed in the Byre which is just opposite the main hotel, the access was not ideal from Carolines (she walks with 2 sticks) point of view as there are about... More

I am still trying to decide what I made of this hotel. We were very content for the two nights we spent there, but we were a bit dismayed by our first impression that it was a little run down - not helped by the fact that our room was styled to look old fashioned. We gradually realised that we... More

We enjoyed a two night stay here, on 20/21 July. Our room overlooked the village and mountains beyond, and was very comfortable. We enjoyed tea and cake on arrival - a welcome treat after long drive on a wet day! Rooms are traditional in decor and style, tastefully furnished, with a relaxing atmosphere throughout. On both evenings we were offered... More

Had dinner with friends last Sunday -very luxurious canapes, mushroom risotto, turbot to mention a few courses. One member of the party did not like fish and had the choice of steak beef. The service was excellent, each course was explained and the ingredients described. The meal was not cheap but consdering the content, variety of courses and quality of... More

I have to concur with several of the other reviews regarding this establishment in terms of the food, rooms and service. Like others have mentioned, staying at this restaurant with rooms was to be one of the highlights of our highland tour. However, it turned out to be the most disppointing. In particular the quality, presentation and flavour of the... More

Our whole trip to Scotland was based around when we could book this restaurant with rooms. We were driving the North Coast 500 route and arranged all our stops around this one recommended by the tourist board venue! We were really looking forward to it and were hoping it was going to be the highlight of our tour, we love... More
