This was a return visit to the Portaferry Hotel after several years for an evening meal, and as usual the food was 'superb'. The main Restaurant is only open on weekends, but it runs a Bar and Bistro during the week. The menu, even for the Bistro is really very good and great mix of options. The food is cooked... More

We've eaten a few times in the Portaferry Hotel since it reopened and think it is constantly improving. Yesterday we went for a very late lunch in the bar and had the daily special - Bouillabaise. It was amazing. It was a very generous portion with a huge chunk of hake, and a huge chunk of salmon (both cooked to... More

Called in to see if we could get a late lunch, I half expected to be turned away as it was so late but was pleasantly surprised to be invited into the bar and seated, drinks ordered and the wonderful waitress ran through the days specials with ease and I took little convincing into the pasta! Food amazing, cocktails better... More

We decided to catch the ferry from Strangford to Portaferry and chose this hotel randomly for a bite to eat. What a great find! :-) The staff were very friendly and eager to provide us with general Northern Irish sightseeing hints and tips when asked. Nothing was too much trouble. The kitchen readily tweeked their meals to suit our little... More

Called once again at this great hostelry. Beautiful afternoon so asked if we could eat outside at the front. Sun shimmering on the crystal blue waters of the lough with a myriad of boats moored in front of us flying flags of multiple nations. The staff were ever so helpful and suggested the bouillabaisse. Beyond comparison; the best I have... More

Just spent a night here with my husband and adult son. We all thoroughly enjoyed this hotel. The location is fabulous overlooking Strangford Lough. The accommodation was spotless. The staff were efficient and accommodating and the food was delicious. We will definitely be returning. We felt so relaxed after only one night as the atmosphere is just great. Well worth... More

Had been told that this Hotel had reopened after a number of years in which the operating managements had completely let it run down to a complete disaster. We had been going down to it for years under the strict professional stewardship of the then owner, and had enjoyed the best food and wine with complete confidence that we would not be... Hi Bigwelt, Thanks for visiting our hotel. We can only assume you havn't been down in a while, as the owner you are referring to retired 14 years ago. We apologise if the scampi wasn't big enough for you. We batter our prawns individually, not in a ball of batter which you may be used to. Big thank you for... More

Visited for dinner for the first time since new management, and i personally was impressed, i enjoyed the food (we ate in the bar) but for me the atmosphere won hands down. Smick, again another great review, normally people focus on food or service but your review really sums up what we are trying hard to achieve. Good honest food, decent staff and a buzz about the place creating a great atmosphere and overall great experience. I think you have covered all bases for us. Thanks Cahal More
