My friend and I stayed here for a weekend get away. Welcome was good and processes good to minimise risks associated with the pandemic. Room was in need of an uplift, tatty furnishings, chipped paint, tv with barely any signal but when it came to the bathroom, this was a downright disappointment - chipped tiles, mould - throughly disappointing. We slept okay, despite being on the main road. We could hear the stream which was actually really nice. Breakfast was pretty good but orders were wrong on both days, which I find a bit disappointed considering we ordered the night before. I would probably stay here again but only if I got a good deal, at the moment I’d sooner stump up more and stay at the large neighbouring hotel.
Having looked at pictures on the website we booked an "executive"room with a lake view for a 4 night stay for my 50th Birthday. We were allocated Rm 30 (avoid if you can). No storage space except for a small 3 drawer bedside table for 2 people and a build in cupboard with 6 hangers and no shelving. The bathroom was Ok, putting aside the clear glass window and blind, but would have benefitted from some detail cleaning. The bed was awful and what sounded like a tap or shower being turned on and off every 5 minutes throughout the night. In the morning I spoke to Reception and asked to be moved, it was the worst nights sleep I`ve ever had anywhere. We were moved to Rm 39, just across the hall. The room was small, enough room to get around the bed but that`s all. No storage space again but we did have a shelf in the built in cupboard this time. The legs fell off the bedside table when I moved it away from the bed, clearly the bed was supporting it. The bed was comfy, which was the most important point for me, but again the cleanliness was lacking. Cobwebs above the bed, rubbish from previous occupant behind the chair and again grouting and shower area needed more attention. The rooms in general need some maintenance and updating. The staff were Ok but sadly no one stood out as far as providing excellent service. The menu in the bar was limited due to the current situation but was consistently good, the only thing this hotal actually has going for it. Would I stay again? No…
I drove into the carpark, parked my car and went directly to the bar. My son ordered some drinks, which we duly consumed and then we left. We went straight to the car and then headed home. At no point were we made aware of the parking regime by the bar staff. Three days later I got a parking charge notification through the post. When I contacted the hotel to register my displeasure, the staff were dismisive. All this, in spite of me being a legitimate patron of the hotel throughout the duration of the time my car was in the car park. I am a regular visitor to the area and always try to put something into the local economy. I will never visit this establishment again, and strongly suggest that nobody else does.
Lovely hotel. The room was excellent, overlooking the lake. Nice breakfast which we had to pre-order the night before. Pool is open but you have to book your time slot - we did and it was great to have it to ourselves. The Beckside Bar (in Hotel basement) was really good for evening meals so we ate there both nights. However, what makes this hotel is the staff, every single staff member we came in contact with was cheerful and helpful - they are what makes this hotel stand out for us. Would definitely stay again.
I stayed at Glenridding hotel with my friend in Friday 25th September. It was perfectly situated for climbing Helvellyn and this is a beautiful mountain to ascend. It is also well situated on the waterfront of Ullswater and close to restaurants and cafés. The check-in was friendly and we were grateful to have permission for parking before the check-in time. The room was clean and beds comfortable. Unfortunately there were some problems during out stay, that we did discuss with reception on check-out but have not had feedback. Firstly it was not possible to use the restaurant or pool as both were booked out at check in, this I appreciate was due to covid restrictions albeit disappointing given the reason for choosing the hotel. The main issues were with the chaotic breakfast arrangements. We selected a time slot and our choices the evening before. When we arrived at our allotted time slot (930am) we were taken to a table and left waiting there for 15 minutes before anyone attended to us. We were presented with hot chocolate, which was not what we had ordered so taken away. It was then a further 5 minutes before cereal, toast, grapefruit, tea and coffee were brought to us. The waiter did not ask if we had everything we needed and did not come back with any milk or butter. We had to ask a member of staff to bring this and then we were given a very small jug of milk, but enough for cereal. We then had to ask again twice before before being brought adequate amount and some butter. The wrong cooked breakfast was then brought to the table so taken away. Then another lady came and asked our room number, another delay and the cooked breakfast arrived. Toast cold by this point. The coffee was poor and tasted like the dregs from a cafeteire. Overall I left feeling very unhappy that we'd paid for a premium hotel without a premium service.…
