This parador hotel has nice and spacious rooms with an ancient character. We have stayed there twice and have been very satisfied with everything both times. The town itself is worth the visit with its ancient buildings and narrow and cobbled streets. The paradors restaurant is of high standard and there is no reason to go elsewhere for dinner. Don't... We'd originally booked the sister Parador Santillana Del Mar for early January and on arrival, discovered it was closed so we were allocated a spacious dual-aspect room in its sister one – Gil Blas. It’s an old property, full of character with an open fire in the cosy lounge area, while the wi-fi was a good strength in our room... More

There are two Paradors at the same place; Santillana Gil Blas and Santillana del Mar. They are situated in the small village Santillana with its cobblestone roads. The parking is not free but cost about 7 euro per night. To use Internet is free but requires a log in code with password. Unfortunately it was not working so well. The... More

Santillana del Mar is known as ‘the town of three lies’, since it does not have a saint (santo) nor is it flat (llana), and nor is it by the sea (mar). It is said to be one of the most attractive and well-preserved in Spain, which certainly seemed to be the case in our wander around during the afternoon.... More

Arrived in this gorgeous village only to find all hotels were closed (due to the season) Finally stumbled across this beautiful hotel & managed to book a room!.... Wow, we were pleasantly surprised at the beautiful decor inside... Absolutely gorgeous room...very friendly service...then to top it off, we dined in the restaurant and also thoroughly enjoyed their breakfast. We really... More

Large room, comfortable bed. Large bathroom with plenty of hot water. Loved the decor, great feeling of history. Breakfast was great, lots of choice and nice waitresses. We did not have an evening meal as a lot of choice in the town.

Santillana del Mar is a very pretty, if slightly touristy, village close to Santander in Northern Spain. We stayed right in the centre of the village, on the tiny Plaza Mayor. The hotel is an old palace that has been converted into this luxury 4* hotel whilst keeping the old features (particularly the creaky floors). Rooms are spacious with all... More

This is a lovely place to stay. This historic building has so much charm, with the wood beams in the room, thick walls, shutters over the windows, views to the distant mountains. The bathroom, though, was modern. Excellent location - right on the main square in the tiny town. Still, even with all the late-night activity, there was little noise.... More

A very nice Parador in a very historical building with very comfortable rooms in a medieval atmosphere . Staff very friendly. Food at the restaurant is good but the staff there lacks service and a little bit of attitude of service. The staff of the hotel is friendly. Parking is located across the street in the other parador, better to... More

In the historic - therefore somewhat touristic - village Santillana del Mar are two Paradores opposite each other. This one is a 4 star and as you may expect, from the Spanish state hotels, as authentically renovated as possible. That creates the nice atmosphere of really really being away from home. The hotel is well situated. Not only is Santillana... More
