We stayed in this hotel on the night before catching the ferry from Santander. It is a building full of history with nooks and crannies, antiques and pictures. Our room was comfortable and the en-suite bathroom very light and modern. We were warmly welcomed, and given a map of the little town on arrival. Breakfast was adequate and included in... More

We loved this hotel! For us the historical ambiance of the hotel was just perfect. The hotel is in the main street in this charming little town and you can easily wander from one end of town to the other looking at the amazing buildings which are around every corner. Our room at the hotel was very comfortable and the... More

We had the day's menu and the quality of food and preparation were excellent. I chose the salad of setas and baby gambas followed by melt in your mouth veal cheeks. My partner had a tasty risotto with fresh vegetables and an outstanding merluza. Desserts were simple but delicious. The 15€ menu include bread, water and a glass of wine.... More

We booked this hotel through Booking.com as a result of very good reviews through TripAdvisor. It is a beautiful historic building with lots of nooks and crannies tucked away in the several levels - some with accommodation rooms and other levels which had comfortable lounges in which to sit and relax: read or play one of the games available. This... More

a quick look at some of the reviews here, seem to have missed the unique beauty of this old hotel. yes you may find the 'service' lacks zest and basil faulty's dream of correctness. forget it. here you are in the main street - a pedestrian street for the most part of an ancient town. the hotel is in every... Located in the centre of the old town this hotel brims with character, old stone walls, creaky floors and ancient windows. The rooms are fairly basic but adequate. No tea/coffee facilities but there's a hairdryer. The big problem is the noise. Occupants of neighbouring rooms and anyone moving around the hotel can be heard quite clearly, footsteps on creaky wooden... More

Stayed for 3 nights to celebrate birthday. Had a lovely room, clean and comfortable overlooking the main cobbled street.Breakfast was continental and good, but very much biased towards sweet options and not much fruit selection. Did not eat at hotel, restaurant El Duque was very good.Only complaint was the noise early in the morning which did wake us up, but... More

Service in the restaurant was terrible, the staff were surly and ignored the needs of the clientele. They were happy to serve their local customers but ignored the English tourists. We had to ask for service to our table at each course. The food was average although the bonito, or cod as they lie to call it, was tough and... More

Ex 16 th century palace. We weren't sure what to expect but, thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Had a room facing the Main Street but, only sl noisy. Very clean room and comfortable beds. Main receptionist very friendly and helpful. Very nice breakfast included. Great value stay. Interesting town with lots quaint bars and restaurants. We would have stayed longer but,... More

I have stayed here each year for 25 years now and keep returning as this hotel offers good value over the much higher priced Paradores in the village. Hotel Altamira is centrally located the village is mainly car-free but one can drive past and park temporarily during the day to drop off luggage and then park close by on the... More
