This hotel is not in the centre of Santillana and is poorly signposted. It took us 30 minutes and four stops to ask local people before we found it - you have to follow signs for Puente San Miguel, which is not anywhere near Santillana "downtown ". The hotel rooms are excellent- clean, comfortable and quiet, with lovely bathrooms. The restaurant didn't do a good job. We note from other reviews that many of the visitors were with groups, and probably it is worth the hotel's while to get it right for a group: but when we visited - a Saturday evening! - we three and another solitary diner were all that there were. They were only able to manage two salads for starters, so the third in our group had the vegetable soup. What a disaster! It was a thick brown sludge, of questionable age and origin - most likely leftover vegetables put through a blender. Absolutely vile - have never been served anything so bad in a restaurant. Main courses were run of the mill, and desserts the usual Spanish range. They forgot to bring the wine and water that we ordered - we had to go into the kitchen looking for someone, halfway through our starters, to get them. Basil Fawlty would have felt very at home here. We noticed that the dozen or so other guests at the hotel - all Spanish- did not eat dinner there. So, do use the hotel - if you can find it - but don't have dinner there unless there is a group there.
