There is really very little to say that isn't positive about our stay here. 5 minutes drive to the beautiful Garachico, set in acres of banana plantation along the wild northern coast of Tenerife, the reception staff were available till 9pm, there was ample, secure parking and even some diy cooking facilities.

Hotel Rural El Patio seemed to attract mature couples rather than family groups which meant the vibe was relaxed and peaceful, without the inconsiderate antics of teenagers or feral kids. Oddly, our only misgiving was around the breakfast buffet which, though impressively extensive, dispensed coffee which needed an upgrade and juice which I would have expected to be fresh rather than out of a carton. This is a small niggle and the fact that the selection changed each day meant that there would always be something to tickle the tastebuds.

As for our room, it was spacious with a wonderful open roof, good wi-fi and hot water that was usually plentiful once it had worked its way through the pipes. The heated towel rail meant that towels didn't need to be replaced because they stayed damp and the only fail of the daily servicing was not replacing the shampoo which is a tribute to the quality of the overall experience.

Oh, and the pool was lovely, with towels available from reception.

All in all, we would love to return one day.

This is a lovely and authentic hotel with an intriguing history that exemplifies the elegance of 16th century aristocratic colonial living and style. The hotel is constructed with traditional Canarian design incorporating tea wood floors, ceilings, galleries and balconies. It's only a 5 min drive to Garachico and Icod which are two of the most important historical cities in the Northern side of the island, Puerto de la Cruz and Teno Rural Park are also very close, and Masca and Teide are rather easy to get to from here. Overall, the hotel is a great place to relax and feel at home, and the perfect base to see pretty much every spot on the North side of the island. Watching the sunset over Garachico from the hotel is a top experience too!

Wonderful 16c Hacienda in Banana Plantation
Very quirky and quiet. We stayed 5 nights in The Balcony which is a self catering villa right on the coast about 15mins walk from the main hotel through the bananas. Could be a little difficult on very dark nights so we often drove.
Last two nights we spent on the original hacienda which was very atmospheric.
Staff were great. Breakfasts adequate. Evening meals limited to 5 nights per week and small menu which didn't change.
Nice free coffee and tea 24 hours plus a fridge with paid-for soft and alcoholic drinks. Also a fridge freezer for guests to share.
Nice pool, sun loungers and gardens. All very spacious, well kept and quiet.

We stayed in Balcon el Patio which was a a lovely villa about 800 m from hotel. It is private and quiet but we all would have preferred to stay in the hotel which is full of character with lovely seating areas and nice pool and such an easy relaxed atmosphere. Taxi service is very good to the town of Garachico which has lots of lovely restaurants. Watching and learning about the bananas was fun. make sure if you go you take the long road from south airport. The drive over the mountains is very scary.

Just back from five days at El Patio. Like many of us, we book these places on websites with fingers quietly crossed behind our backs in the hope that the images we see and the reviews we read are real; at El Patio, for us, they most certainly were. If peace, quiet, tranquility, nature, colour, light, history, personal service, and quality with fuss or pretension is your thing, then El Patio may work for you like it did for us. Thoroughly recommended.

One of the best places I’ve ever stayed at! Authentic, small, cosy, comfy, true, beatiful, characterful, original! The old huge villa in the middle of banana plantation, just by the ocean, short walk to the cute, little beach… but what made our stay so unforgetable was meeting the owner, who is the heir to an amazing family history and carefully cares and continues. Thank you Mrs. Maria for your time, charming stories and showing your home so full of the history of this amazing family.
we will definitely come back!

Nice peaceful surroundings around banana plantations. Retro style rooms, clean. I had a terras with nice sea view. Nice breakfast with home made jams and pastries. Small swimming pool +- 8m or so.

Two regrets: you need a car since isolated place, no resto in hotel.

I enjoyed my stay. Thank you.

This is one of the nicest hotels I've stayed in. It is right in the middle of a banana plantation near Garachico, one of the few unspoilt places left on Tenerife.
The hotel is a converted manor house and has loads of character. There was a very friendly, family atmosphere. The owner used to come in and chat to guests at breakfast and would recommemd where to go and what to see. The breakfasts were superb. Loads of choice, including fresh fruit and cooked stuff as well as toast etc. They also do a massive packed lunch on request, which we found very useful for the days when we went out walking all day.

Do not stay here. Dark, dank place with uncomfortable accommodations. Smell of chemical pesticides will burn your throat. WiFi does not work anywhere. Walls are thin such that you hear neighbors. Bed is pitiful. I have been more comfortable camping. Left early and had much better accommodations elsewhere for same price.

There is a bus service #363) that stops in the village (El Guancho) on the way to Garachico and back, but I don't know the timetable. This also goes to Icod and Puerto de la Santa Cruz in the opposite direction.

Is it an easy walk to the restaurant 10 minutes away?

Dear TrickyWit... Thank you for your answer. Really on the top of the plantation (10min. by foot) is a restaurant, is a traditional place but enough to have dinner and there is other (for have lunch open until 16pm), they only have fresh fish (really good). If not, in Garachico (5 min. by car) there are like 15 restaurants. Or in Icod de los Vinos (5min. by car) We would be delighted to have you stay with us. If you would like to request any other information, please don´t hesitate to contact us. Looking forward to hear from you soon. Hotel Rural El Patio.

Hi, We flew to Tenerife South Airport and hired a car there. It takes about an hour or so to drive up and is an easy drive. Cannot give you any advice about taxi s or buses but would say that a car would be essential to stay at El Patio as eating out could be a problem for you, especially, if you like to sample different restaurants. The hotel occasionally does evening meals, I think, and there is a restaurant about 10 mins walk up hill away. I think, also, that a taxi can be phoned to take you into Garachico. We drove to Garachico most nights to eat. Would highly recommend El Patio for relaxing break. All the best Amanda
