The restaurant served delicious Slovenian fare as well as local specialities.
I highly recommend this mountain getaway for its beautiful location and warm atmosphere.
We arrived on a Sunday having had a 6 hour walk down from Tourist Farm Rogar (including a very steep and slippery descent through the pine forest from Klemensev). We were extremely pleased to arrive on this extremely hot day and our apartment on the lower ground floor was welcomingly cool and comfortable.
The one bedroom apartment suited us fine with one double bed in a reasonably large room and a sofa bed for our two teenage sons. Comfortable beds and a smart bathroom. We made little use of the kitchen facilities because we had trekked in and brought none of our own provisions, although the fridge was v welcome and the ability to make my own cuppa was excellent: this is not a facility provided in any of the rooms we stayed in in Slovenia.
The breakfast was excellent. A buffet with all the normal ham and cheese, along with plenty of cereals, fruit and yogurt, breads, etc. The coffee was good, and served hot to the table.
We sat outside for breakfast as well as the evening meals and the view up the Logarska Dolina Valley was excellent from the hotel terrace. The evening meals were delicious: at the weekend Ojstrica run a grill / barbq which was lovely and very popular. Be warned though, it can get v busy here at weekends. On the Sunday night we were very lucky to have some impromptu music when some local youngsters played the accordian, tuba and guitar and sang along. It was really great and the fact that there were lots of locals using the restaurant speaks very well of the food and the family running Ojstrica.
Monday was our "rest" day (we were doing a 5 day trek around this part of the Kamnik Alps) so we walked up to the waterfall - "Slap Rinka" - and back, which was a nice trip. The Eagles Nest Cafe at the waterfall was impressive perched on the side of the mountain.
The lady running Penzion Kmecka Hisa Ojstrica was very kind and speaks fluent English. It was useful to be able to pay using a credit card.
I really recommend staying at Penzion Kmecka Hisa Ojstrica (although would suggest avoiding the weekends if possible).
We walked from Ojstrica over via Strelovec back to Robanov Kot.
My rating is based on the food.
Ojstrica is the best choice in my opinion for accomodation with best balance between price and comfort. We stayed in 4 bed room that had two rooms and a bathroom. Everuything was furnished with style and spoltlessly clean. Fridge and water boiler was available in the room. Bathroom had heating during the night even in August!!
Food was nice and stuff is friendly, ready to make some changes in food assortment for you specially or if your child (like mine) has some special eating habits. There is a nice terrace for sitting outside with playing area for chidren. It is also a farm, so children can enjoy learning about farm animals as well, even working around them and feeding them (with help and supervision of the owners).
All the best to family Plesnik who runs this beatufull place in a very professional way! We are looking froward to our next stay in Ojstrica!
We admittedly arrived in a light rain and while the valley is gorgeous, the weather took away from it. I imagine in summer it would be magnificent.
The host’s daughter speaks fluent English but the parents not so much. Unfortunately, it comes off as a bit rude or distant as they ignored us sometimes because they didn’t always know how to communicate.
Bed and room were comfortable. Breakfast buffet was simple. The highlight was some homemade jam. Night before dinner was mushroom soup, goulash and baked fish.
"The apartment with the view on mountain peak is awesome, the extra room is something special."Read full review
