My wife and I spent two nights here to celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary. It proved to be just as we hoped: a quiet, romantic escape from our day-to-day lives and a chance to take in a the beauty of the Loire valley. As others have said, Palais Briau is a beautifully preserved property, so don't expect all the mod-cons...

This hotel experience is not for everyone. If you expect high tech wifi and large flat screen tv's in your room, you won't be happy here. What you will get is a truly unique experience of being a guest in a restored opulent, if slightly faded, country chateau. We were the only guests in this palace and thus, it seemed...

I overnight there just one night with my parents. The palace is awesome, the surroundings, gardens, the building, the ball rooms. We slept on the SUITE WEDGEWOOD. Fantastic! it was like being transported to XIX century! Breakfast was great and we had a great after diner conversation with the owner, they offered us home made wine. Simple Marvelous!

From the moment we arrived until the time we had to leave we were overwhelmed with amazement with both the stunning interior and surrounding parklands which are steeped in history On our arrival we...

We, together with our friends, stayed for one night and to enjoy a celebration meal in Varades on the banks of the Loire. We were made very welcome on arrival and shown to our rooms which fully met our expectations. These were well furnished, consistent with the fashion and style of the period of the house and everything was exceptionally...

This is a beautiful building in a wonderful setting with great history, fantastic grounds and an amazing view. But what really sets this apart in comparison to many hotels in France is that it also has comfortable beds, good bathrooms, delicious breakfast and charming, welcoming and helpful hosts. Worth every penny and strongly recommended.

Stayed at the Palais Briau in late August. The chateau has been meticulously renovated by the owners, who are extremely welcoming and a great source of information on the area. There is a retrospective in the basement, chronicling the history of the house -- including wreckage from a WWII-era German fighter plane that crashed on the grounds! In describing the...
