This lodge had comfortable rooms but the dining area and lobby was shoddy and dark. I heard the management was going to close it and by all appearances it did seem so!! The food was bad and they did care, they didn’t bother to pack lunch during the trek and when we returned hungry there was no proper food menu!! It was expensive not worth the price and yes they were short staffed too!
We stayed in Bakiga Lodge with my family (3 young children of 9, 6 and 5) for 2 nights in June 2019 during our tour in Uganda for 7 nights (see my previous post). The overall experience was incredible for the views, kindness from the staff, genuine hospitality, simple treatment and unique atmosphere you enjoy during our stay. The evenings around the fireside eating food and drinking hot teas are a fond memory of our stay. My wife and I did the gorilla trekking (one of the highlights of my life!) while the kids stayed at Bakiga Lodge for the morning with a caretaker.
Stayed here for one night before my Gorilla Trek. It’s a ‘mid level’ accommodation. The staff is excellent. They have hot drinks available at all times (included) and a very attentive staff. Dinner/breakfast was provided on site and it was pretty decent. The cabins have amazing views and decent beds and hot showers. Wifi and charging is limited to certain hours but if you want to be super connected while you are here, then you are missing the point. Great fireplace to sit and chat with other travelers. These guys do it right.
We had a very difficult and muddy road to reach the Lodge (in minibus) It s in the mountain so you have to climb many stairs to reach your rooms and the restaurant. The dinner was good and the rooms where clean. We met many other tourists there who explained there adventure to finally see the gorilla's.
This was our first "Lodge" as we began our East Africa journey. The staff are incredible. So friendly. The lodge is breathtakingly beautiful. Every balcony faces this beautiful mountain range and valley. Gorgeous sunset. The food was amazing. We toured the village as well. If I had known there was an orphanage I definitely would have taken something for the kids. Our bungalow was awesome - lots of room, huge bathroom and a private balcony.. You can't go wrong here.
