This is a good place to stay to support the community project. The location is also great for trekking in the Buhoma area. The restaurant has a beautiful view and offers free tea and coffee. The food is simple but filling. The service was sometimes a bit indifferent but on the whole our experience here was good. The rooms are very basic and it was a bit cold in the room. It is also a steep path from the restaurant to some of the rooms - you will need a torch at night. Watch out for ants in the beds as I got a painful bite during the night!
This is a great place to stay while you visit the gorillas. Very close to the headquarters where we met in the early morning and very comfortable. We had a lovely cabin in the forest and the staff were extremely helpful, cleaning muddy boots and lending extra gators etc. There was wifi and plenty of hot water and excellent food! The chef was great and we are vegetarian which is often a challenge in remote places. There was a fire to sit beside and hot drinks available all day...really recommend this place. I might suggest heading down the long bumpy road after your gorilla trek as it cuts down your drive the following day if you are short of time.
Buhoma Community Rest Camp is beautiful. All rooms overlook the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest with a small balcony. Very comfortable rooms with private bathroom too. The reception/dining have wonderful views over the mountains. Staff are incredibly friendly and go out of their way to help. Breakfast and dinners are set menus but incredibly delicious - you won’t go hungry! Can also walk to the Gorilla trekking briefing spot which is next door. Best of all, it is all going back into supporting the local community!
I spent 2 night in Buhoma community resting camp. The location is excellent, very close to Bwindi forest park headquarters, from where the gorillas trekkings begin. The small cottages are well equipped and clean. The staff is friendly and helpful, and they can organize for you activities such as bird watching, community visits, Batwa experience,... The benefits of your stay in the camp are shared by the community. I recommend to stay here in Buhoma
Do you want to feel like Dyan Fossey in her campsite? choose this camp. With small construction houses mixing Ugandan and field camp style(probably of the best households in the zone if you think in the households around, appreciate!) you will integrate very well to the surroundings and some nocturnal primates hung around. Everyday improving and with the Ugandan highland tomatoes and potatos in the cusine, mmmmm. 1st, 2d, 3d desert and cold local beer ;)
