This was our favourite place in Malawi out of the five places we stayed at. I felt pretty gutted when our guide took us back across the river to our car. It was just magical. Our guide (Angel) was really friendly and informative and went out of his way to ensure we saw some wildlife. The food was really good...

I visited Mvuu Camp last weekend while on safari to Liwonde National Park. I had a nice spacious chalet - very open & airy. Pretty delicious vegetarian food was served to me - ranging from quesadillas to schnitzels. A big change from my 2010 trip to Tanzania on safari where the vegetarian food was hard to get. Very warm personalised...

We have stayed several times at Mvuu and are always extremely pleased with how welcoming the camp is. The staff is really at your back and call, the guides are all really skilled and children are welcomed with pleasure. The chalets are quiet and the views stunning, the pool is so nice and perfect for beginner swimmers. Food has sadly...

We only stayed one night because of the price but have to admit it was worth it. In our 24hrs we went on a boat ride, night drive and stayed in a hideout. I really recommend these activities and especially the latter one since we couldn't do this in other places. We had done a few safaris in Malawi before...

I recently spent 2 nights at Mvuu camp in one of the chalets right on the river. We went on 2 game drives/boats rides a day, and they never disappointed. They didn't have any big cats while we were there (they reintroduced cheetahs in November), but hippos are my favorite animal, and they were everywhere. You would wake up every...

We stayed at the campsite, which has sandy pitches, water tap, braai and some shade. Ample of hot water, WIFI and internet is available, but not always working. Staff is friendly. The cons for us: They do not inform you that they add the tourist levy of 1%, which was included in all places elsewhere in Malawi. Although after checking...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Set amongst large, shady trees along the banks of the surging Shire River, Mvuu Camp offers a charming setting for those wishing to explore the country’s premier wildlife haven. Being Malawi’s largest river, the Shire attracts hordes of mammals and birds. Whether you are staying in one of our 12 attractive en-suite units or in the nearby campsite, you will find the atmosphere lively and dynamic. The impressive thatched dining and lounge area offers magnificent vistas over the river, framed by two large baobab trees. For those wishing to cool off in the midday heat there is an inviting pool. The camp is completed by a traditional boma for dining under the stars. Did you know?Since our inception into Liwonde in 1994, large areas of the Park have been rehabilitated; some 500 local people currently benefit financially from our camps. The diverse landscape includes relatively dry mopane woodlands interspersed with candelabra trees, patches of miombo, palm savannah and numerous baobabs on extensive floodplains and dense riverine vegetation.Your activities will include boating, game drives (day and night) and cultural visits to villages.Mvuu means ‘hippo’ in Tonga, referring to the large numbers that occur here. The Park is also home to elephant, rare black rhino, sable, waterbuck, Lichtenstein’s hartebeest and, rarely, lion. The prolific bird life seen include African Skimmer, Palmnut Vulture and White-backed Night-Heron. ... more   less
