It was an awesome experience to see the Siq by candlelight and daylight. A flashlight is a must because the trail into the Siq can be very difficult to walk because the trail is a combination of hard sand, Roman cobblestones, and some some pavement when the site was used for an Indiana Jones movie "The last Crusade" There are NO lights on the trail at night. It's lit by thousands of luminaria! An unforgettable sight to see.Well worth the 3 hour drive from Amman the city of Petra is very interesting too. The great rift Valley is rivals the Grand Canyon in beauty only on a much smaller scale.

It was cold and snowing when we arrived at the Movenpick for a two-night stay as part of a Gate 1 tour. The hotel was basically fogged in. That meant no view of the surrounding valley, but we didn’t care, we were so relieved to arrive safely. The atrium lobby is spacious, our room comfortable, the public areas a little chilly. I don’t think the hotel was built for the unusually cold January weather we experienced. The main hotel restaurant offers a buffet menu for breakfast and dinner. Breakfast was nice; the dinner buffet felt slightly recycled. Our group enjoyed drinks and a light meal in the bar (a special call-out to our friendly server Mohammed). Overall, I think the hotel ambiance would be more pleasant in warmer weather when the terraces could be opened. Of course, the advantage of traveling off-season is that Petra was not crowded. There are two Movenpick Hotels in Petra. The Nabatean Castle Hotel is about a 10-minute drive to the Petra entrance; the other is in town near the entrance. We took advantage of the courtesy shuttle that runs between the two hotels (check at the front desk for details).

I honestly don’t understand how this is a 5* hotel! The hotel in general is so outdated that you feel you are back in the 90s when you walk in it. The gym and facilities are terrible with the gym having some ancient equipment. Breakfast is OK, but you can have such quality food in any 3* hotel anywhere in the world. Disappointing...

This hotel is pretty and well decorated. Our room was decently sized and the bed was nice. Our TV remote did not work, but the TV could be operated directly. We were disappointed to have only a shower without a tub. Location was also a disappointment. You could not walk to anything in town and there were no restaurants, bars, or supermarkets within walking distance. This was an issue because the food served in the hotel was not the best quality and they did not have a great variety.
