Petra is an ancient city that once was considered to be a myth, hidden for centuries from prying eyes. The Petra Marriott Hotel is conveniently located on a steep sloping site overlooking the dramatic and picturesque Petra Valley. Concealed within the quite magnificent mountains in the red rose desert, Petra is one of Jordan’s national treasures and by far its best known tourist attraction. Petra, the world wonder, is a magnificent city and there is nothing in the world resembles it. Although much has been written about Petra, nothing really prepares you for this amazing place. It has to be seen to be believed.

This lovely hotel is built into the hills high above Petra, which gives in sweeping views and beautiful sunsets from the restaurant and poolside. You enter on the 4th floor with check in area, gift shops, and great bar with delicious pizza for pretty low prices. Our room was on the 5th floor, just 1 flight up so we never needed the elevator. The dining room was down several flights and served an extensive breakfast buffet. Our drive to Petra was about 15 minutes, and we were not within walking distance of town so it was very quiet.

I seriously don't get how anyone could give this place less than 5 stars, but we all have different experiences. First, the location is fabulous. Sure it's not steps away from the Petra attractions, but it's high up and provides an amazing view of the area. We were there two nights, and had two amazing sunsets to take in. We felt the service was fabulous. We do pretty much exclusively stay at Marriotts, so we do have status, and that could have something to do with it, but I get the sense that the staff is generally lovely with everyone. The food was good. The breakfast and dinner buffets have a large variety. Highly recommend the doing dinner and hookah in the bedouin tent one night. The drinks and snacks at the bar were fairly priced (comparable to other hotels or even a bit less). Like I said, you're not steps away from the main attraction, but the staff set us up with a great guide who took us through Petra and gave us information we definitely wouldn't have learned on our own or with any literature provided at the site. The room was tidy, but there was something off about the lighting. Definitely recommend a mountain facing view for your room.

We stayed here for three nights. The hotel is a little outside of the main town — the hotel provided a shuttle service while we were there that left in the morning and had pickups late in the day. The hotel is still under renovation but we had a very nice room with unobstructed view. There are still a few areas in need of renovation. The hotel staff was terrific with a very energetic front desk manager who was always asking how things were going. The staff provided many helpful amenities — They prepared a box lunch for us for an early start into Petra. They also provide complementary water on request. The view from the pool area is spectacular. Pretty good breakfast buffet as well. We would stay there again.

The hotel is nice, 10 minutes drive from Petra and the downtown. Small lobby, but the rooms were spacious and nice. The staff are all very friendly and the service is great over all. There's an outdoor pool, but the hotel was under renovation so it wasn't very comfortable to enjoy the whole area with all the workers around. The breakfast was very good, must try the 'Halaweh' it's a traditional sweet arabic dish made from sesame.
