We have a very nice lunch, this is the best place to eat local foods like bansko starets, kapama and so on.

We love the place - every two months we come here and love the food, the stuff and the design in the garden. You should make a photo session here after you get your lunch!

We enjoyed our night in the new lodge building at the rear of this sprawling 300 year old inn. We had a large room on the top floor, with a fireplace and views of the neighborhood and the mountains. The accommodations are rustic in style, charming, clean, quiet and new.

The location is good for the town, right next to the main church in the old town. But it's some distance from the ski area. We enjoyed a good country breakfast in the restaurant, and were sorry to have to leave before trying a lunch or dinner there.

We are nearing the end of our holiday and we get a message on FB from someone who owns a property here. Go to Dedo Pene, she said.
So we walked through the town past all the plastic looking copies of old Bulgarian restaurants, dodged the street hustlers trying to get you into their places then found ourselves in a wonderful part of the old town Bansko.
The restaurant is the real deal, typically old and typically Bulgarian. We were the only English in there as it is a locals favourite.
The food.....i almost wet myself with excitement when they presented our shoulder of lamb for two.
Absolutely amazing is all I can say.
The food is beautiful and so is the atmosphere and decor.

I have visited Bansko for the last twenty years and eaten at this traditional restaurant several times. Unfortunately my last visit we encountered cold food when it should have been hot. Both meals were cold. The service was poor. The food went back but how can you serve cold food when there were only 4 customers to serve.

If you're coming to Bulgaria hoping to soak up a little Après ski and a little traditional Bulgaria, look no further. Dedo Pene is unassuming, quiet and totally charming. The missus and I had a great ski trip, but to come back each night to the glowing fire and charming staff, in the old town centre, far from the neon strued main hotels and have a little slice of what life was like before the big hotels moved in was an inspired choice.
We didn't eat there until the last night of our stay, which was a mistake, as the food was incredible. Even though we almost burnt down our room, after leaving a blanket on the flue of our coal fired furnace, they staff were fantastic. Stay her, eat here. If you've booked into a big hotel, you've made a mistake. If you haven't yet booked, then look no further. Stay, enjoy. Have a great trip, ski, après ski, relax. That's what it's all about, no?

I have to admit this review is biased. We are dear friends with the owner's daughter and her family back home in Ohio. But when we stayed there we told no one from the Inn that we knew their family until breakfast the next morning. The Dedo Pene Inn was built in 1820 and has continued to stay in the family. Upon arriving in the incredibly beautiful village of Bansko we made our way to Dedo Pene's Inn which also serves as a kerchma or tavern/ restaurant. We were greeted by Ivan who we later found out was a first cousin of Boyco, our "Free Sofia Tour" guide back in Sofia. (See my review of Free Sofia Tour.) What a small world we live in! This Inn is one of many with the same views of the inspiring Pirin Mountains however unlike some of the other hotels this is one of the original inns. When we stayed there we had the place to ourselves but normally they stay busy during ski and festival season. There are 7 rooms available. The rooms are basic but decorated with some charming details. The sink is a built in "kotle", an old copper kettle originally used for cooking. The bed headboard is from authentic hand spun wool "chergi". Shampoo/ body wash dispensers are in every bathroom. One thing I want readers to know is that this place is absolutely spotless and they will make you feel just like at home. After a very restul sleep in the cool mountain air we came to the kerchma for breakfast. The price for the stay was very reasonable and our breakfast the next morning consisted of traditional homemade banitsa with thick yogurt and homemade bluberry preserves. The coffe was so smooth and velvety. Our tea (chai) was of the very typical mountain chai from the Lipa tree which is so healthy for you to drink. When we finally met the owner, Baba Elena known as "Teddy", their daughter Julia and her husband Bobby we introduced ourselves. Only weeks earlier we had met Dedo Pene (Luben) while spending time with their other daughter, son-in-law-, and grandaughters. We love Dedo Pene's Inn and will be back as soon as we can!

After reading nothing but great reviews for this hotel/inn I decide this was the place for us to stay during our half term ski break to Bansko . The reality I have found to be greatly different to the previous reviews.
I am writing this as we are currently staying at the hotel with 2 more nights ahead of us .
We have returned each evening at varying times from the ski slopes after enjoying après ski with our friends . Our return times have varied between 5.30 and 7 pm only to find that there is NO HOT WATER until the water reheats much later in the evening. We have given the hotel the opportunity to remedy the situation but nothing has altered.
Also be aware that breakfast is one set meal changed daily and should you specifically ask for something different than the set menu, this quite often seems to be a problem . Also be aware that should you want to have more than one drink per person at breakfast then this is a chargeable extra .

I've always thought that Bansko is interesting for skiers only, so in the past I wasn't too eager to visit it even though it is barely 3 hours easy drive from my hometown of Sofia. A few months ago, however, after popping by chance into the Dedo Pene Inn, I fell in love with this place. This is the quaintest, most charming inn imaginable. The owner, Dedo Pene, is an enchanting character reminiscent of the founder of Macondo in One Hundred Years of Solitude (and he, indeed, is the grand-grand-grandson of one of Bansko's founders). He's always busy concocting a new salad for the rakiya, or sprucing up the courtyard with yet another potted rose or woodcarving, or accepting from the locals baskets of wild berries and freshly-laid eggs for the pancakes. The food that he offers is entirely organic and very, very tasty; the wine is locally produced and so palatable; the few rooms are spotlessly clean and full of authenticity and character. At this place, one feels in a loving home. I would recommend it to everyone, as it is an isle of warmth and hospitality in contrast to the generally commercialised atmosphere in Bansko. To feel Bulgaria at its most authentic, one must visit Dedo Pene's Inn.

Fantastic Heidi style room with the stairs going up from a beautiful outside dining courtyard. The owner is very hospitable and welcomed us with a glass of outstanding locally produced red wine (a must try wine) ! Quaint features everywhere you turn, positioned next to the church in the old town square. After here we travelled to a newer hotel as part of our two centre stay, to see The Old Town and experience spa treatments etc at 'The St George Palace' which is about an 8 min drive in a taxi from the side of the church next to the Dedo Pene Inn. We will be back next year, as this trip is a 'must repeat trip'. Cheap Beer £1 a pint bottle, coffee and cake in a cafe £1.50 total cost !
