#1 of 8 Specialty lodging in Samosir Island
Tuk-Tuk Timbul, which means "Arising Peninsula", is located at the shore line of Lake Toba between the well known peninsula "Tuk Tuk Siadong" and the village of Ambarita. We, the family Siallagan, started to build up this place in the seventies as it was still just a bare rock in the lake making it suitable for nice bungalows. Over the years it has become what it is now - a little paradise for those who like it quiet, a little bit hidden and familial rather than busy and fancy. Generally all of our bungalows are basic, suitable for guests that are looking for non-expensive accommodation rather than for pricy international standard hotels. This is being reflected in our room rates. Our luxury is our great natural spot, hidden and quiet, where you won't find disturbing boat traffic or even road noises.

Brilliant views across the lake and easy to find. We were on scooters so it wasn’t too difficult to get around. Room was well furnished with warm showers. Only let down was other guests/locals. They seem to get up extremely early (before 6am) in Indonesia. They were singing and playing music. I would also welcome the opportunity to fill up water bottles for a small fee to help limit the use of plastic.

The staffs are friendly. The ambience is great. The traditional Batak house is incredible. The food is superb. I stayed only 1 night with my parents and best friend. We totally enjoyed our stay! We rented 2 motorbikes to see places around the Samosir Island. Perfect!!

A really great budget-friendly resort. Comfortable beds, lovely surroundings and such welcoming staff. The owner of the place is also super friendly and hospitable. Will definitely come back to Tuk-Tuk Timbul Bungalows again in the future.

My wife and I decided to visit Sumatra for her birthday this year. We began researching accommodations and Tuk Tuk Timbul looked like a good choice. Well let me tell you....as I write this review I am drinking the best Sumatran coffee I have ever had in my life while taking in the serine view of Lake Toba. Making it here takes effort. Long hours in the car on bumpy roads then a ferry to Samosir Island and back in the car for a relatively short drive. But OMG, as I watched the sun rise over this astonishing lake with this coffee in hand all was forgiven. Everything slows here and I can feel my mind begin to unwind and loosen. Birdsong and a cools breeze as the house puppy nips at my feet. In a word...dreamy. Come now before the secret get out.
