The property is surrounded by scrub jungle and is set about 0.5 Km away from the last house in the village. Both Sereno & Kumari were great. Cooking and arranging safari into the NP as well as taking us for walks to the river spot amongst birds and dragonflies to swim in the heat of the day. Sitting under the big tree at night with a cold beer was simply fantastic.

Very nice spot, nice swim in the river, great talks with the owner. No Lonely Planet thing ;-). Wel organised trip into Wilpattu National Park, but the best were the conversations with the owner!. Also very good commuication, as we travelled from the north and the road from Mannar was closed a very good alternative with a temple to visit half way, who was maybe the nicest one we have seen! To be recommended!

We had 3 lovely days at wilpattu house situated in a natural environment with cute cats and dogs! During the evening and night you can hear a lot of animals and even the owner (Serano) took us on a trip in the evening to look for fireflies and elephants. Also he arranged a driver for us in wilpattu and that guy was a great friendly guide. We had a nice day in wilpattu. Furthermore we had some delicious meals from Kumari and after dinner we had some great laugh's near a small campfire. Overall we loved this place a lot and would recommend it to everyone who loves a natural and serene stay.

We didn’t stay at this place so we can’t say anything about the place itself. But friends of ours were staying here and arranged the (full day) safari to Wilpattu NP. We were joining from near the main entrance (other entrance was closed because of water). They left around 5:30, however, at 6:00 they were still not at our place. Eventually we arrived at the gate at 7:30 (!!). Then, buying the tickets etc. all very slow. Everybody knows the early morning and late evening are the best times for wildlife, but we already missed the morning. In the afternoon we rushed to the gates to be there at 5. Driver said the park was open until 5. Not true, open until 6. So we missed the evening as well. At that time we didn’t know, but we’re really pissed about it now. Had to pay the full package, missed the best of it. Please don’t do this to your costumers anymore. Apart from this all, the driver was a kind guy and I’m sure he can be a good safari guide. Unfortunately our experience wasn’t really good ;).

Response from Wilpattu H, Manager at Wilpattu House
Responded Nov 29, 2018
First and foremost, Merel K was NOT our "costumer". Merel K had arranged (thru Facebook I think) to share the Safari Jeep costs with another couple who were staying at our place. There was also another two people also staying at our place. They were agreeable to sharing the jeep with Merel K. So in total 6 people shared the jeep cost (fixed) . Not quite a full package. Apparently Merel was not very considerate of the others, our customers. He would take a long time photographing some single item, whereas the others wanted to move on. Because of the delays, twice missed seeing a leopard. Oh well.

Good place for a whole day visit to Wilpattu National Park. Sereno couldn't be there because he took care of a friend in the hospital, but he took the time to answer to questions over the phone and he wrote some nice suggestions about visiting the country. Meanwhile his partner Kumari took good care of me. She and her team made good tasty food for the day.
