We were only there for two nights with a safari into the reserve the afternoon of arrival and a second the next morning and having had a similar experience in India were not expecting the Ritz style accommodation. The whole purpose of the visit was to see the wildlife and in particular, the leopards, so 5-star accommodation was not at the top of the priority list. Our driver was excellent as was the ‘spotter’, one of the chefs who was not needed at the time, and our wildlife expert was just that, very knowledgeable and with eyes like a hawk! We saw not one but three leopards on our first outing with one sitting quite quietly right out in the open as can be seen from the picture. Whilst this was the highlight there were too many other animals and birds to list them all. The tent we had was perfectly adequate, not 5-star but OK for a couple of nights, a living room, a separate bedroom and loo and shower all set in its own area reached by a path to it, and it alone. It was very humid in the tent but a large fan kept the bedroom at a reasonable temperature and my wife and I, on the first night, had the best night's sleep we had had since arriving in the country. Hot water was a luxury at times but as it was very hot and very humid, a tepid to cool shower was rather refreshing. The food was campfire style, actually from a barbecue, but served to the table, complete with a white tablecloth and napkins, which made one feel a bit like Rhodes of Rhodesia even if the meals were not the greatest we have ever had! I cannot speak to the value for money as the stay was simply part of a nearly month-long journey around Sri Lanka so I have no idea how much any one element cost.…
My wife and I went with a purpose. We wanted to see the leaopards of Sri Lanka and Wilpattu is one good place to see them. Having had a wonderful stay with Eco Team at "Ahaspokuna Bushwalk Camp" last time, our choice was to stay at the Mahoora in Wilpattu. We had great attentive and unintrusive service throughout our stay. Rajitha the guy in charge of the camp was a lively, knowledgeable, anticipatory and friendly host. One thing I could commend was his brilliant ability to "Spot" life around us and help us see them. The tent was comfortable and we were given all the guidance how to use them. The tent with a sitting and living space apart from the sleeping area was a nice touch of luxury. Wise idea to have the simple shower and toilet right behind the bed. Avoids having to exit the tent especially in the nigh for a "call of nature' as most other camping I have experienced have them outside. The tents were clean and secure. Probably needs a little upkeep attention- The metal shower frames in our tent. We also enjoyed the authentic Sri Lankan food with a touch of fusion for dinner. The outdoor dining experiences with the bonfire at dinner were really great experiences. We did a half day safari and were not lucky with a leaopard sigting. Rajitha recommended we go again in the afternoon and we did. Oh boy, luck was on our side. We saw two leaopards, both resting after a kill (as was told). It was very difficult to see them in the bush but their tails gave them away, moving from time to time chasing the flies that were annoying them. Couldn't see them out in the open. We also saw an elephant, plenty of spotted deer and pea fowls, monitor lizards, hare, a tree squirrel, many varieties of birds and jungle fowl. The night walk was really amazing and would recommend as a must. Motionless butterflies, scorpions on the prowl, sleeping birds and lizards clinging on at the end of a thin branch to escape from loris that hunt at night. Dont miss the night walk. Thank you to the Eco Team for this lovely stay.…
Great site with comfortable tents, generous tasty food and conscientious knowledgeable guides. Wonderful safari days in the Wilpattu National Park where we saw leopards, sloth bears, dear and other animals along with colourful bird life. Perfect!
We had a great time staying in the camp. The tents were fab - lots of space and very comfortable. Loved the dinner under the starts with a bonfire, and the night walk was a real highlight. Very peaceful, especially by the lake. All the staff were very friendly and we were very well looked after. Would definitely recommend.

We visited Mahoora Tented Safari Camp, Wilpattu over the long weekend in Feb 2022. We were so fascinated by the overall experience. Mr. Rajitha is the superstar of the overall experience at Mahoora. He is just the person you need as the manager/host of such a lovely place. The dinner under the stars with fire was one hell of an experience. The food was amazing and the evening tea time in the garden is another encounter which we will not forget. Packed breakfast and tea buffer before the early morning safari is impressive. We loved everything about Mahoora Tented Safari Camp Wilpatthu.
As our fourth Mahoora site we were impressed by the extension of the tented area with an extra sitting area at the front and more room around the beds and bathroom. With the addition of a large open area for eating under the stars and wifi in a quiet area the whole set-up (as a permanent camp) wqs more glamping. However the main attraction was the park itself which on our second day delivered all of the Sri Lankan "Big 5" across the day and combined with earlier leopard encounters provided a number of unique and memorable wildlife treasures. Once again the staff (although small in number) provided good service and were always attentive and helpful
We had a great time at Mahoora special thanks for Mr Ranjith for his corporation his team also excellent keep up the good work. Good place to get different experience and favour of jungle living.. Highly recommend to all.. thanks again team Manhoora
We originally booked 03 ''Big Game Camp'' tents for two nights but Eco team gave us free upgrade to ''Mahoora Tented Safari camp'' which was huge and comfortable for our family. Special thanks to Duminda & Anuththara for upgrade. We welcomed by Sumith and he took care of us until we checked out from the site. Tents were huge luxurious with a sitting area, bedroom and attached bathroom.
Complete eco friendly travel experience, and even greater wildlife experience. The stay was made extra special by the guided Safari tour, make sure to ask for Rajitha for the Safari, since he's got a vast knowledge of the wildlife and gives an excellent guide. The food was amazing as well, kudos to the chefs! The staff was very friendly and attentive and they're prepared to serve throughout the day and very considerate for the guests requirements. Overall its one of the best eco tourism experiences you can get.
