Rooms 9/10. Spacious clean and great position. I would recommend the rooms facing the pool not the ones around the back. Staff all very friendly andservice good. We did an all inclusive. Found the food very repetitive and drinks not brilliant. Many cocktails not available and some ingredients for the cocktails on the all inclusive not available. Entertainment staff very good. We were the only brits there during our visit orherwise the quests were all french. Shame they were not as friendly towards us as the staff. Hotel really out on its own so not much to do. Would we go back ...sadly no

Calodyne Sur Mer is a 3+ Star hotel where they serve you like a 5 Star hotel. The rooms are all large apartments that include three bedrooms, a living room/kitchen, a bathroom and a separate toilet. The hotel grounds are well kept with a beautiful layout. The best part of the trip for us was the staff. They were all super friendly and were always willing to help us out any way we needed. I have never met a friendlier group of people in my life. Over all this was such a wonderful trip that we will remember the rest of our lives.

Pros: The price was great compared to other hotels located on the beach. The service was excellent. Very laid back compared to other uptight hotels. The hotel is not that big, maybe 50 apartments, keeps the ratio of staff to guest high, and keeps the atmosphere calm. A bigger hotel would have still felt like we were rushing to dinner, and then cramming on the beach, etc. The restaurant is located right on the breach. For someone looking for a romantic diner you have found the right hotel.

Cons: If you are looking for a long sand beach at the hotel you may be disappointed. The hotel has a small sand beach, but not the huge sand beach you picture when you think of Mauritius. In fairness to Calodyne, I do not think that many hotels have the long sand beach that you dream of. You would have to go to the West Coast of the island or Grand Baie and spend a lot more money to have a long sand beach. The water was still great and this fact did not bother us at all.

Very disappointed with Calodyne sur mer hotel.
Maintenance required:
1. Water supply scarce and disrupted
2. Broken toilets
3. Repetitive power cuts
Management:
1. Very rude (Restaurant and boat house)
2. Did not attend guest upon arrival
3. Lack of spa services
4. Poor menu and food quality (more innovation)
5. More staff training required: people skills

This is a very hard review to write for me. On the one hand we've had a horrible first couple of days here, and on the other hand - the staff really tried their best to better the situation for us.
Our 2 week holiday was arranged through Travel Zone (which I wont recommend using).
Arriving on the night of 21/12/2013 - after travelling from South Africa with 2kids , aged 11 and 2 - (who was tired by this time), we were told to follow the path to the restaurant. The restaurant was hosting a wedding reception! We got a couple of looks sitting down before we realised we were gate-crashing a wedding. There wasnt really food for us so we each had a small bun and piece of meat. We quickly ate and went to the room. We stayed in a 2-bedroom family unit upstairs, nr 201. My husband was on crutches as he had broken his leg in October '13. We couldnt take a shower as there was no warm-water pressure.
Next morning we reported the problem and maintenance started working on the pipes - for 3 days! By the end of day 1 we had NO water. We had to go and shower in a different unit. Meaning my husband on crtuches up and down stairs, my kids with toiletries and clean clothes up and down. The kids shared a room - 2 single beds. The beds werent the same or even the same height. By the one was an electrical socket right next to her face on the wall and the other had a wooden corner shelf which went over the bed - meaning she kept bumping her head a night. It's not as clean as one whould hope. The bathroom had a shower and basin. The hairdryer is so old and dusty when I took it down the whole casing came off with it and live electrical wires were exposed. A serious risk of shock, especially in the bathroom. Only 2 towels were provided and when I requested more abth towels and face cloths the lady couldnt understand why we needed more towels, and they dont have faceclothes or face towels! Towels are all different, some newer than others, some with more stains than others. The bedrooms arent cosy or comfortable. The matrasses are in serious need of replacement, pillows as well. 2 flat pillows in one pillowcase is not comfortable. Closet space is very limited - one set of shelves and one small hanging space. The doors usually part-open against the bedside table. The aircons are in working order which one wouldnt be able to do without!
Our room went for a couple of days without being attended too as the housekeeper sometimes only came in the afternoon. Usually when the kids had a nap and she couldnt enter. Bu 16:00 in the afternoon after you went out for the day or had spend time on the beach you would like to return to a clean room.
The food is not good. It is very bland and the menu is repetative. The chef did try something else for Christmas and New years eve.
There was loads of flies in the restaurant area, on the tables, on the cutlery, by the food station, on the food. The restaurant has a stunning ocean view!
Numerous fights with our travel agent who said this was a 3* facility, we decided to go to a different establishment. Unfortunately that thime of year of 6 people its an almost impossible task as all hotels were fully booked or extrememly expensive.
Again, Ronnie who is the front office manager, tried to assist and accommodate us where he could.
Eventually we were moved into unit 215 - top floor again, but a 3 bedroom unit, overlooking the beach and ocean. (Unfortunately at night also the dance-area by the restaurant.) Because of the view we ignored the music and noise at night.
This unit - sleeping 5 - has a small kitchen - but only utencils are 2 tea cups and saucers, 2 glasses and 1 tea spoon. One bathroom with only a shower and 1 seperate toilet.
The colour scheme / interior is horrible! The first unit had everything in pink and blue, second unit was beter with pink and yellow.
The beach is very small! The one picture you see on the website of the beach IS the beach. There is no local or cultural events every evening as advertised. They do however have a Dj/entertainer who is really trying to entertain one and all. There was 1 night of sega dancers and 1 night of fire dancers. Everynight is pretty much the same.
There is very limited water sport on offer - actually there was couple of cano's. Right next door at Zilwa Attitide was a beehive of activity, cano's, glass bottom boat, kite surfing, catamaran, peddle boats etc.
There is no waiters to bring drinks or food to you on the beach, no room service either. We bought the "all inclusive" package and had a choice between 4 cocktails, local beer and rum from 10am-10pm. The 1 cocktail also tasted and looked different everytime with a different barman. Only barman on duty at all times. Waiters arent all very helful and some cant communicate in english either.
This hotel is far from all activities and is expensive to hire a taxi all the time. The local bus service is not close, alhough within walking distance - but we were warned to rather not walk outside the hotel as there was "dodgy" people and stray dogs that might be aggressive.
No tours or excursions are arranged from this hotel.
Sateliite TV is a joke! About 5 channels to watch, all in french. CNN is the only one in english. DSTV satellite is only on 1 tv set in the bar-area.
The kids-club is almost non existant. Ver limited play area far away from everyone, not safe to leave your kids alone there.
Bottled water you pay for - MR60. Water in glass is for free.
Wifi available only by the reception and bar area - and only a couple of devices are allowed on at any time. Dont count on getting onto wifi often.
Pool area is beautiful and clean. Nice chairs to lounge in by the pool. Hotel is not bad looking from outside. Little things eg paint, better decor, better service, maintenance and repairs are seriously lacking. And these things can make a huge difference on your experience there.
Ivano is a consultant trying to rectify problems and listening to customer complaints, it seems like he is making a difference overall. He listened to our complaints and concerns and he is addressing is. The problem is that there is only 1 manager, poor Ronnie - front office to housekeeping to repairs. He does evertyhing!! No general manager / owner ever anywhere.
There is much better establishments in Mauritius - right next door to start off with. I was even asked by an employee why we stayed there as they usually only catered for locals and wasnt use to international tavellers. The hotel was quite full and this brought to that the lack of staff members and lack of training couldnt handle the volumes of people with complaints and problems.
Staff were very friendly and helpful. Ronnie and Ivano especially came to see us off when we left, they were brilliant. The rest not so much.

We were there from july 21 thru 26th, 2008, and had vouchers for the All Inclusive formula, because that was what we had booked and already paid before leaving.
We found it very unprofessional, to say the least, that upon our arrival the Hotel unilaterally changed our formula into a never heard before, strange, "Soft inclusive" one, that is they wanted us to pay an additional 10 euros per person per day (70 euros per person for a week) in order to obtain the "All inclusive" formula we already had paid!
This happened to more that 40 tourists, who had booked with different travel agencies, and , as admitted by the hotel director in front of witnesses, had been going on for the previous 3 weeks too.
I reported the matter to the Mauritian Authorities, making a written statemet with 2 witnesses at the Mauritius Police in Grand Gaube but until now, I have no notice of any step that has been taken by them.
Resort is small and cozy, well kept except for restaurant chairs which have some spots on the cloth they are made of.
We were satisfied with the rooms and room service.
Food was poor apparently for lack of budget during that week.
Beach is very small and fake, not real , brought in from somewhere else, but can be ok for a while.
We were not pleased with the attitude of the director of the hotel, Mr.Alessandro Nodari, neither with the one of Ibrahim,a member of the hotel staff: when the police came to the hotel to deliver us the copy of the statement we had made and they recorded on the Police record, he sent them away and didn't call us although we were in a lobby 50 meters away from the entrance and then came into the same lobby shouting loudly our names and telling that we had to go to the police, as if we were the responsibles of the fraud instead of the lawyers!
Eventually we beliveve that the hotel spoiled its image with such a behaviour, if they had sold the package with a "Full board and beverages" formula instead of an "All inclusive" which then they did not fulfill, everybody would have bought the package anyway and would return to the hotel instead of being angry and feel cheated.

Dear Guest, Calodyne Sur Mer Hotel has had a change of ownership and management effective as of March 2010. We sincerely apologize for the less than satisfactory incidents incurred and our new management team have been taking these into consideration. Our staff are working tirelessly to ensure that guests at the new Calodyne Sur Mer hotel receive only the very best service we can provide. As for the 'poor' food you were offered, the aroma of the cuisine from our sea view restaurant alone will be enough to tantalize your taste buds! We sincerely hope you will visit the new Calodyne Sur Mer hotel where we ensure you will receive top quality service and an unforgettable experience. Feel free to contact us for any further information. Kind Regards Management Calodyne Sur Mer Hotel

Overview
Had a two night stay in a 3 bed apartment type room and will not go back again. No basic amenities available. No hot water on the morning of the third day, had to shower in cold water and no electricity for a period of time.
Pictures on website are not a true reflection of the Hotel - they have been edited
Overall, Calodyn sur mer is more like catered apartments rather than a hotel.

Problems
No electricity for varying periods of time - our room had no electricity for approximately 5 minutes but other rooms were without electricity for longer periods of time.

No hot water on morning of day 3.

The toilet's flush did not work properly and the shower plug hole was partially blocked and had standing water without us using the shower.

We received no apology and no gesture of goodwill to say sorry for these things. - I once stayed at a hotel in Portugal and the fire alarm went off so they gave us spa products to say sorry for the inconvenience. I believe this is what great hotel service is when things go wrong which invariably they do, an apology at check out would have been suffice given this is meant to be a 3 star hotel.

Cleanliness
The hotel room was dirty, we stayed in a 3 bedroom suite and there were stains of what looked like cola on the wall in one bedroom. I had to personally supervise and tell the housekeeper to go back and mop parts of the floor where she had missed after she had finished cleaning. What does not help is the rooms have not been refurbished in years so everything looks dirty before you start.

Facilities
The swimming pool floor is dangerous, the grouting between the tiles have eroded so much that the gaps are large enough to catch your toe and hurt yourself which is what happened to me, another guest lost a finger nail because of this.

Amenities/Services
No WiFi signal in the rooms

No iron was available so we had to wear creased clothes (I was told they don't like giving their iron out to guests as their irons are not good and could burn your clothes - why they cant buy new ones I don't know).

A family member, staying in another room requested a quilt for her daughter and the quilt never arrived. Staff guaranteed us WiFi in the rooms but this was not the case.

Room
The rooms are dated and have not had a major refurbishment in many years. Tiles, walls, flooring, bathroom sanitary ware, furniture are all old and look out of date.

No separate bath tub

Toilet was separate from the bathroom which is very old fashioned.

Staff
Whenever we spoke to staff to get these issues addressed they took a very long time to come and see you and many of the problems were not resolved.

When I spoke to Mariefrance (housekeeping manager) she admitted to me it is difficult to get WiFi signals in the rooms but you can get it outside, which is what I experienced.

Staff at restaurant are nice and accommodating

Food
Overall slightly better than average, there were some very nice dishes but the majority of food was average. Food is compensated by restaurant staff being friendly and polite.

Location
North of Island - absolutely nothing to do in the area, you need to take a taxi or car to get to Grand Baie (20 minute drive) where there are some things to do.

Other
The majority of the guests were locals - there are hardly any tourists which says something!

Dear Arshad, We have taken note of the comments which you have loaded. We sincerly feel that have mistaken in mentioning the hotel's name. Our records do not show your name as one of our guests. Furthermore, comments from other guests who have stayed at our hotel during the same time that you have mentioned, are surprisingly different and praises the hotel's standard and its services. May be you have been mistaken about the hotel's namel !

if you guys are looking for breathtaking scenery, peace and tranquility, quality service at an affordable tariff...then you must check on the package offered by this little 3 star hotel. Calodyne Sur Mer Mauritius. i had a wonderful vacation with Cindy. We were there in December2010 and we were just, impressed!

-the warm welcome from original staff, not like those phony and automated personnel.
-the marvelous and unique site location, as if its the edge of the world!
-the room deco is good and comfortable. hygiene prevails.
-the food is delicious and various.
-the activities and shows are different than the usual thing.
-the relaxing moments at the spa, basking in the sun and enjoy aquasports
-the tariff for such a service is more than good. no stealing i ought to say!

no words can express live experience of course but here i would add that a piece of paradise is on rent...
