There are a few places to stay before Mulanje but this is definitely one of the better ones. There food is great and they were very good at accommodating our dietary requirements. Me and my brother spent most of our time at Likhubula pools and I think other kids will enjoy this too. We went there once a day at least sometimes twice to swim. They will store you're belongings while you are on the mountain. We had trouble contacting them so I recommend to book on Airbnb beforehand.
We arrived by bike at Likhubula Forest Lodge and enjoyed a peaceful 2 night stay. The lodge is an old colonial house with en suite rooms and hot showers , good local food, overlooking the slopes of Mulanje, with cosy character and intimate hospitality. A peaceful retreat with easy access to hikes on the mountain . The first night provided a rich sunset...tasty food and a briefing from our mountain guide link from Mulanje Outdoor Adventures ; an interesting and good guide ( Geoffrey Mwantisi +265 888201689/ 884051839) . Next day he took us for a hike up the Mulanje Mountain; we wanted and enjoyed a leisurely walking tour to visit the Dziwelankhalamba Falls and Rock Pools ( 2 – 3 hours). We would recommend this location and wished we had walking boots for a longer rip rather than this being a stop off as part of our Cycle Malawi bike tour.…
We spent a weekend at Likhubula Forest Lodge, and used it as a starting point for two day-hikes. Nice relaxing setting wit a great view. The food was good and plenty. The guide that they provided was very good and knowledgeable. We will use him again if we go another time. The first day we only went to the waterfall to get a feel for the mountain. Great place to swim if you like cold water. Second day we went to Chambe Basin. The walk up was steep and quite demanding. Remember to turn around from time to time to enjoy the view. The way back went again past the waterfall.
Nine of us were lucky enough to stay at this old forestry reserve lodge while visiting Malawi on Holiday. The lodge is quiet and the staff very accommodating. There are 4 rooms inside the building and an annex with further rooms. There is one double bed with an ensuite and the others had 2-3 beds. the beds were clean and comfortable. The shower had hot water and was plentiful. Dinner and breakfast were in the main dinning / lounge area which we shared with the few other visitors. Food was wholesome simple and adequate(we all loved the sweet potato - peanut dish). Drinks could be bought form the fridge, but we had brought our own. We did not have wifi, which was a relief. In summary: Simple, clean, friendly, a good base to climb up the mountain.
Or was adventure tho find the lodge as Google sent us on a short cut that was too rough. The road through Mulanje was an easy drive. Drinks on the verandah overlooking the valley at sunset were beautiful. Enjoyed reconnecting with the other guests who we had met at other places in Malawi. Dietary restrictions advised ahead were catered for with an amazing beef curry with side dishes and cooked dessert. Room was cosy with 4 needs for 3 of us and ensuite. Homely and provided everything we needed.
