If you like a bit of history with your relaxing stay, this is the place to be!! This place used to be an hacienda, the owner transformed the family's chapel into a museum of religious art (mostly Mexican artists/paintings from the XVI-XVIII century). They have a garden with carrots, celery, radishes, herbs, etc from which they create their meals! The...

This is an update to my last review. Leonor broke her ankle when she slipped climbing into the hand-made shower. We gained the impression from the cleaning staff this fall was not the first. So we reported the accident to Alejandro, receptionist, and showed him how a simple & cheap wall-fixed handle could prevent a recurrence. We weren't particularly blaming...

This place is out of the way in the middle of nowhere but probably the most relaxing spot you could find. A car would be preferable but we used collectivos and taxis. Taxi is 400 to Comitan. Collectivo is 40 per person. Gorgeous old rooms like living in a museum. Restaurant was quite good but menu slightly limited ...... still...

This mostly 19th century property is very nice and quiet. The rooms are very nice and have period style furnishings. Mine also had a living room with antique piano, paintings and collectibles. There is a mini museum with religious oriented antiques and some artesanias for sale. I had breakfast there. The omelette with organic herbs was very good. It is...

Parador San Juan has an beautiful dining room with large windows looking out on the garden. They have blown glass service plates, nice wine glasses, white table cloths and cloth napkins Their menu is...

Original furnishing in an elegant environment close to the Mayan ruins Chinkultic and Montebello lakes. The bed was beautiful but too narrow and too high! And after sunset there's no place to be but in the bedroom due to the lack of good reading lights in the living room and the mosquitoes!

This is a beautiful - and pricy - hacienda which could / should be a nice retreat from the noisy capital... but they played loud music in the open living room (the area with sofas) and in the restaurant from morning to dawn. Since we were nearly the only guests, we asked them every time to turn down the music....

We stayed one night at Parador Santa Maria on our way to La Selva Lacandona. We arrived at 7:30 pm on Christmas Eve and a staff member was actually outside waiting for us even though we were 11/2 hours later than expected. He quickly helped us unload and walked us through the grounds to our room. It was little things...
